More about Hotel San Antonio

Hotel San Antonio Lanzarote

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the San Antonio Hotel , I would have to disagree with some of the reviews I have read regarding the rooms and food being poor. Durng our stay we found the staff polite and friendly and willing to help. The hotel was fully booked during our stay which meant the restaraunt was always full but the staff were polite and the service was quick, choices of food was good although more or less the same every evening.
The room we stayed in was good, it was cleaned every day and fresh towels and sheets were provided.
There was lots to do during the day and also entertainment provided on a evening if you wanted to stay in and relax.
We have travelled to many places and would consider this to be one of the best we have stayed in.

Would definately go again without any hesitation.

A winter week of sun

by TripAdvisor Member Jinty61

Just returned from a week at the Hotel San Antonio. Food was excellent although trying to get seated was a bit of a nightmare. Staff in the restaurant were very disorganised. Most of them were not friendly at all. Disappointing for a four star hotel. Two pools - one of which was salt water. If you like to swim in the sea on your holiday this is not the hotel to stay in - the beach just outside the hotel was very small and it was impossible to swim in the sea due to the rock pools. The daytime entertainment in the hotel included water aerobics, salsa dancing, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, archery. It was very organised. The evening entertainment after 10 oclock was much better than the resident band. Overall we had a good holiday. Would go back to Peurto Del Carmen.

Very good hotel

by TripAdvisor Member janner1

Just returned from The San Antonio hotel it was very good It had won a thompson gold award for 2005. It was immaculately clean and tidy. The room was very well furnished, the usual layout it could have been a bit bigger but it was adequate. All the staff seemed to be friendly and helpful .
Restaurant good very varied menu always several choices of meats. Real coffee machine!! I noted also soya products and gluten free products in restaurant. Staff excellent.
Entertainment every evening resident duo..not so good...Tribute bands quite good Chinese cabaret excellent amazingly controlled movements from them. I would say I would have liked to see at least SOME Spanish music/dance.
The only adverse comment is the beach. It was about 50 yards from hotel....but not what I would describe as golden sand! rocky and small not for swimming. The sea sounded and looked great sparkling in the sun especially if you sunbath on the upper terrace by the freshwater pool. The main beach is not far away.
We did a trip to Feurventura by ferry..what a contrast in beaches and sea colour..amazing....but very little else there. Very good Thomson tour guide NICK who looks exactly like Kenneth Cranham the actor .
There was some aircraft noise but not at night and not all day long.

Big Dissappointment

by TripAdvisor Member loughryan

My 2 friends and I have recently returned from our eagerly looked forward to holiday at the 4star San Antonio Hotel in Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote-what a let down! When we were shown to our rooms we were so dissappointed to discover that the twin room which 2 of us would share for the week was very small, certainly not what one would expect in a 4star hotel. Actually the rooms are overdue refurbishment. Despite requesting a larger room we were not facilitated. Another let down was that our balcony view was almost totaly obscured by vegetation. Another problem was the strong sewage smell at toilets near the seawater pool. The air-conditioning was non functioning in our room. It was finally repaired on our final day. Overall our stay was a huge dissappointment. This was a very expensive stay in a hotel which in my opinion would struggle to reach 2star standard!

Not Disappointed

by TripAdvisor Member Keith Reader

We stayed at this hotel in February 2004 and were suitably impressed by it's high standard. Subsequently we have had several holidays at some excellent hotels but, in my mind, not as good as the San Antonio. My wife was not convinced so, although we never return to the same resort or hotel, in this case I persuaded her to return and we were at this hotel for the first week in February.
I was somewhat apprehensive before we left as there had been a highly critical report on this site for the hotel.
I need not have worried as everything was as good as the first time we stayed. My wife agreed that it was the best that we had stayed at and the week was another great success.
We thought the menu was extensive, the service was excellent we never had to wait for a waiter to come for the wine order and empty plates were quickly removed.
Our room did not have the extensive view we experienced on the first visit mainly because we were on a lower floor.
I agree that it is possibly more suitable for the older generation but that is mainly the clientel which you find on winter sun holidays.
I enjoyed the entertainment and so must most of the other guests as the dance floor was full for most of the evenings!
I must also say that we are not beach people but whilst the beach adjacent to the holtel is probably not the best there are some decent beaches either side of the hotel.
We enjoy walking whilst on holiday and it is a pleasant walk all the way down to the harbour, but, if you walk north you can walk miles along the sea front. We got to the Airport and it looked as if you could walk all the way to Arricife.

Fell in love with San Antonio

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayd in the San Antonia for two weeks beginning Easter Sunday this year.
The hotel itself is beautiful, the aspect is gorgeous and we enjoyed ourselves greatly.
The rooms were comfortable and extremely clean.
The service was excellent and we found all staff to be professional but friendly.
We would love to go back again soon.

Loved every minute

by TripAdvisor Member S-and-K-4eva

Though a little dated the Hotel was clean and tidy; this didn't distract from the friendly atmosphere. The Hotel has three swimming pools and plenty of space for sun loungers...the usual 6.00 am dash to put towels out doesn't need to be undertaken at this hotel. As with the rest of the hotel, rooms included, the restaurant could do with a bit of a makeover...threadbare and worn carpets causing minor trips and stumbles. The restaurant was very spacious and offered inside and outside dining...food was in the form of a buffet, always supported by two or three carvery/specialist foods i.e. indian, chinese, mexican, spanish etc...the food itself was excellent and we don't think that apart from one or two spoonfuls of tepid scrambled egg that there was anything to complain about...the additional two inches around each of our waists is evidence enough.
The hotel is situated at the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen and Matagorde, a twenty minute stroll in either direction takes you to shops and bars; Puerto Del Carmen is far more lively the further you walk on; we settled at the Golden Corner;somewhere near the centre and excellent for trying a whole menu full of cocktails, the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help; they even bought us a free round of drinks on our last night.
At this time of year the weather was just right, mid to low thirties and complete with a lovely breeze during the day which cooled down the sun tanned skin; however on a few evenings the wind didn't drop and late on it became quite chilly.
As far as trips go we booked the Grand Tour and a visit to the Rancho Texas Zoo through our Airtours rep; both were excellent value...the Grand Tour lasted all day but with several stops along the way it wasn't too tiresome; the volcano and the camel ride are a must; lunch could have been a little better maybe.
We did find out after booking our trip to Rancho Texas Zoo that it was only about a kilometer from our hotel, about twenty minutes walk (we waited for the free bus for over forty minutes); but we liked the Zoo so much we had a second visit and walked there and back, so much better than fitting things in around a bus timetable.
In our second week we took the early morning bus to Playa Blanca and caught the Fred Olsen Hydrofoil to Fuerteventura; it takes just 12 minutes each way and cost around 70 euros for the two of us....Playa Blanca is still quite picturesque at the moment but plans are afoot and the place is expanding; it is said it may one day become bigger than Puerto del Carmen, this would be a shame.
Sadly Corallejo in Fuerteventura wasn't to either of our tastes; it was very busy and in many parts resembled a building site...the wind was blowing well too, so if the sand didn't get you from the beach it would from the building sites....we are sure it may look better when the work is completed but we wouldn't risk spending the fare to find out.
Although not offerred as part of any tour by our operator we took the trouble to visit Arrecife; though quite a metroplois we still found it quite charming and would recommend a visit despite the crowded bus journey there and back its well worth a look; the shops seem a little more expensive but there is more to choose from.
We have a policy of never visiting the same place twice; but in the event we ever get to visit all the other places in the world that are on our list...we would consider coming back to Lanzarote, we had a wonderful time.

Great hotel and great island

by TripAdvisor Member Mariana_Silvia

We have stayed there for the 10 days in our honeymoon and everything was great. The room was very clean and spacious the food was very diversified and all the staff was very polite and ready to help you with everything that you want. The hotel has 2 great pools one is on a uper floor from the ground and has ocean view it is really great. The beach is near the hotel and it is very clean. The island is great with a lot of restaurants and shops.

Food lovers delight

by TripAdvisor Member sombochris

Got a half board deal at short notice at the beginning of July. The Kids got a bed room next door. Bed rooms were small, but sufficient.
The breakfasts had a vast array, which differed every day. The evening meals were excellent, with different themes. I only intended to eat in a few nights, but the food was so good we ate there every night.

The upper pool is close to a septic tank and can pong a bit.
No such problems with the other pools.

Cheap broadband kept the kids incontact with their friends
