Traveling from Tenerife to Gran Canaria

by azdbell

Hello, I will be visiting Los Cristianos, Tenerife in November 2008. I would like to also visit Gran Canaria and the Hard Rock Cafe at Playa Del Ingles. Can anyone tell me if there is an easy way to get from Los Cristianos to Playa Del Ingles? I am having a really hard time trying to find a ferry or direct easy route.

By ferry you can only get to Gran Canaria from Santa Cruz, in the North of Tenerife, to Las Palmas (where you will find Playa del Ingles). You would do better to go by air from the Tenerife South/Reina Sofia airport (TFS) to Las Palmas (LPA), with Binter Canarias for example it would cost you €56 each way:
Dep. TFS flight NT 152, dep. 09:15 - arr. LPA 09:45
Return LPA flight NT 8187, dep. 21:30 - arr. TFS 22:00
There are undoubtedly other possibilities with other airlines.
Once you arrive at TFS, there are buses to Playa del Inglès (http://www.canaryforum.com/gc/bus.html).

Travel Tips for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

PAPA ARRUGA

by MaheshSamtani

Papa arruga, literally means crushed potato. This is a local delicacy. May sound too simple but extremely tasty and something unique that after eating you would think how it had not struck you before. This is a typical dish of the Canary Islands having in the mojo picon, which is another typical dish, a perfect compliment to give you a special bite.

This speciality is the result of the scarcity that the locals had to suffer in the olden times and the situation forced them to extract elements from locally available crops. They would have never imagined that it would survive with the passing of times and be considered as something a person must try when you get here. In our case we got back quite some bottles of mojo picon, which is available in different varieties, depending on the grade of chilli that you would like.

Sailing

by Birsen

Sailing in Gran Canaria is a sailor’s dream, during the months of April to October even more so, with some of the best practicing conditions! Local sailing clubs have produced several Olympic champions. There are sailing centres at Las Palmas, here the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) departs from. Also in the south coast, specifically Puerto Rico, Pasito Blanco, Arguineguin and Puerto de Mogán. If you head to any resort by the sea and you will easily find a school or company that will provide you with the right equipment you need to start sailing and tuition.

Fantastic Libanese food!

by Birsen about El Cedro

If you like middle eastern food like a little bit spicy (but not hot like mexican) and home made style, I highly recommend El Cedro for a lunch or dinner. The restaurant at the second floor it has not a fancy but homey decoration. The service is very nice and the meal is very reasonably priced. For example today we had a family reunion of 13 people and paid 206€ +tip 10 %. We had 4-5 kind tapas and meat, rice, pita bread, desert, a lot of beer... Humus
Eggplant puree (Berenjena pate)
Tabule (bulgur and tomate salad)
kibbeh( meat stuffed bulgur meat balls)
meat pastry
falafel
shish kebab

Arcitecture on Las Canteras

by Joacim

On the street going besides Las Canteras, you can do one of two things. 1 You can focus on beach and all the life that gives you a lot of things to look at. 2. You can turn your head and look at the beautiful houses by the beach. The houses has a lot of different architectural styles and it is very interesting to look at.
