More about Santa Catalina

Parque Doramas - a park named after a king.

by Regina1965

Parque Doramas is a lovely, big sub-tropical park halway between the old part of Las Palmas and the new part. I walked from the new part and took a rest in this park. It stands in front of the 5-star hotel Santa Catalina which is also a casino.

There is a striking statue/fountain at the entrance which is a monument of the last Guanchen king Doramas. It is disturbing really, this monument, and at first I thought it depicted some deamons falling in the battle of good and evil. The king fell to his death from a cliff and the old culture of the natives of Gran Canaria died with him and the Spanish took over.

Hotel Santa Catalina is one of the most beautiful hotels in Las Palmas built in 1890 and renovated several times since then. It has been declared a Historical Artistic Monument.

by piglet44

Sorry to drive everyone crazy on this board, but I am getting nervous! We are arriving at LPA at 01.40am.Will we be able to get a regular taxi at that time, and if so what would be the price to transfer to Las Palmas city, or do we need to book a private transfer?

thanks all.

Re: airport taxis at night??

Dear Ruth,

The following is the information that I have found out from a website - http://www.alquiler-directo.com/alquiler-coches/guia-del-aeropuerto-de-gran-canaria.htm.

Since the info is in Spanish, here goes a brief translation.
There are taxis outside the airport and NO extra charges during the night or on any festive day. There is no extra charge for the baggage.

You can find taxis in ZONES A, B or C
The cost to the city of Las Palmas from the airport is around 20 Euros depending on your exact destinaiton. The costs of other destinations are mentoned inthe original text in Spanish which I have attached in this message for your information.

I hope this helps. if you have any doubt and need any further acclaration, I would be delighted to help.

here goes the original spanish text from the mentioned website.

Taxi
En las salidas desde el aeropuerto no hay tarifas de nocturnidad ni de festivos. El equipaje en el maletero es sin cargo.
