More about Aguamar Apartments
Great for families
I have recently returned from staying at the Aguamar Apartments. We had a lovely week there, the rooms were clean and well equiped. The maids came every day apart from wednesday, cleaned, replaced towels and made the beds. They were excellent considering we were a family of 4 (including a very messy baby).
This hotel is great for familes, it makes a real difference if you are travelling with a baby to have a microwave to warm food and milk. Having a proper bath and shower makes washing a baby a lot easier. There are also a great range of facilities for children and toddlers, there are 2 well equiped play areas and a childrens pool.
The pool area was nice and clean with pleantly of sunbeads, although we didn't visit during peak season.
The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel didn't have evening entertainment but there are pleanty of bars and restaurants close by.
Excellent Value for Money
We stayed at the Aguamar from the 28th April to 8th May 2007 in an apartment on the 3rd floor and thought it was brilliant value for money.
The reception desk in the lobby is manned 24 hours a day and both the lobby and all the apartments have very recently been refurbished to a very good standard.
Our apartment consisted of a petite but ample bedroom with two single beds and built in wardrobe; separate bathroom with shower over bath and a kitchen/lounge with microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee maker and two electric hobs. The lounge housed a sofa bed (which could have slept two further adults), single chair, dining table with four chairs and a pay per view television.
Patio doors from the lounge led out to a small balcony with table and chairs and a clothes horse which overlooked the pool and the mountains beyond.
All the furniture except for the beds, TV and bath were new or newish and the apartment had laminate floor.
Overall the accommodation was very clean (maids cleaned every day except Wednesdays), bright and up to date.
The TV had a slot for coins to operate but we spent very little time watching it.
I stayed at the Aguamar with my boyfriend on a self catering basis and paid £22 per night through hotels4u.com... it was a similar price on hotelsrus.com.
The apartments looked great from the outside, the lobby was unusually contemporary for a 3* hotel and the pool and surrounding area was kept immaculately clean.
It was about a 15 minute walk to the beach / marina in Los Christianos or about a 25 minute walk to the beautiful beach in Playa Vistas.
There was a bus stop 2mins away from the Aguamar with regular buses to take you to the Vistas or Playa de las Americas or further along the island. It cost us 1.25 Euro each one way to Americas.
Hotel staff were all very friendly, helpful and the reception staff spoke excellent english.
Checking in and checking out was a doddle!
The facilities were constantly being cleaned, touched up and improved.... with pride!
There are a number of small and large supermarkets within easy walking distance (I recommend the Hyper Trebol for those looking for a wide variety of fresh fruit and veg at very low prices)and places to eat and drink just over the road.... see notes below for quality of local bars?!
There's a large gym about 10 mins walk away or a smaller boxing gym about 5 mins walk away. My partner and I joined the boxing gym for a week and it cost us 15 Euros each. I would have preferred the larger gym but had already joined the first one we came to. The boxing gym had no cardio equipment... only strength and resistence plus a boxing / fighting ring and dance classes.
I did not see a single cockroach in our hotel!
The swimming pool was ice cold!
The sun loungers had no padding... a wee bit uncomfy. Although some resourceful Brits brought their own pads or used li-lo's.
If you ask the receptionist to order you a cab... do not do so until you actually need it. Theres a taxi rank 30 seconds away and as soon as the taxi arrives at the hotel his meter starts running, whether you wanted it straight away or not!
It tends to be noisy til about 2am as there's a row of really dodgy English bars over the road from the hotel and none of the windows appear to be double glazed.
No air conditioning - although we didn't need it as it wasn't really hot enough!
Although we had no cockroaches in the hotel facilities, my boyfriend did leave a box of frosties in the kitchen cupboard which we later found crawling with the worlds smallest ants... he wasn't best pleased... especially when he'd got up in the night and eaten a handful in the dark the night before!!
Overall we had a fab time and would happily stay at the Aguamar again!
Lovely, clean apartments-a little noisy at night
Myself, partner and two children aged 11 and 14 stayed from 16th feb for a break at half term. The apartment was spotlessly clean on arrival. The kitchen facilities were adequate for our needs. The maid came in every day except wednesday! They did an excellent job and did special little things like laid out my daughters pj's on her bed nicely and made the flannel look like a butterfly with the soap in the middle as the body. This sounds daft, but for a 3 key hotel these little touches were really appreciated. The towels were replenished every time she came.
There was no entertainment in the evenings but the children were content after the evening meals, to play on the pool tables or use the internet facilities (1 euro-10 mins) for msn etc.
The roof terrace was open for sunbathing and ample space and sunbeds available and a proper hot tub. It was a bit more private and peaceful for my daughter and I to get a tan! The pool is very clean but the usual sad cases were there at 8.30am waiting for the poor spanish guy to come and unlock the beds at 9am. They would actually stand guard at the spot they wanted for the sunbed! We found this very entertaining over a cuppa in the morning!! They would cover the beds with towels and then go back to their rooms until it warmed up! Get a life people!!!!
It is a 15 min walk to the beach. Slightly downhill, so if you have any limitations don't forget you will have to walk back up again. After a hot day on the beach, this could be a bit tedious!!
Locally, the shops are quite good. Lots of restaurants around. Los Flores around the corner does a more authentic Spanish atmosphere and we had a few very nice meals here, although not cheap. The buffet was good value if you are very hungry!!
As another review mentioned Porkies a brit restaurant run by some lancs people-thought we would try it. Had a nice sunday lunch and smashing English breakfast and the family who run it are pleasant for a chat and make a fuss of the kids.
Nextdoor to them is the Angus Steakhouse, the food was average but the Spanish waitress (fairish hair) was excellent and very attentive, great with the kids etc.
Go to the aqua park-just to see the dolphin show-it made me cry it is so lovely!
One week was just right.
I stayed here last summer with my girlfriend. The apartments exceeded my expectations. The apartment was clean and well decorated. We had a lovely view overlooking the pool and was a sun trap all day and well into the evening. We had a room at the back of the complex therefore noice from the local bars was not an issue. The staff were helpful. Great place for couples and families. The apartments are in a lovely area and about a 15 min walk away from the beach. The only negatives were the complex was dead at night time and you had to be up early to get a sun lounger. Brilliant weather, brilliant accomodation, value for money and would definately return.
another great holiday!
This was our third family holiday to this hotel and as usual it was great. Clean rooms, linens and towels changed regularly. The kids loved the pool area, spent most of the day there! Drinks a bit expensive though.
The bars accross can be a bit noisy- but this holiday they were ok.
Go to Porkies for your meals, great breakfasts and evening meals. Clean toilets- which my daughter visited frequently!Value for money and a lovely family who run it. Merry Monk good too for drinks and entertainment.
This is a good family hotel, central location, good value for money. Planning another visit soon.
