Ignore The Negative Reviews
by TripAdvisor Member CraigNewcastle
I'm a travel agent, and decided to book the Dunas Mirador Maspalomas -- as they were offering great rates for All inclusive -- and were charging NO single supplements -- so the 5 of us, had a room each! Not bad.
The negatives: No Air Conditioning. However, I did rent a Fan from reception for about 15 Euros for a week. You could rent an Air Conditioning Unit -- but it was more expensive.
The Food: What a fantastic selection. This is the FIRST all inclusive hotel I've been to where we didn't get sick of the food. We didn't eat out ONCE. They had special themed nights (ours was Chinese). They had a Carvery with Pork/Crackling (wow!) - then Beef one night, and Chicken another night. Various fresh vegetables -- Broccoli, Cauliflower, Roast Potatoes, Sprouts, Carrots -- and more. They had other meat dishes, Fish, Salad Bar, 3 baskets of Fresh Bread (Still hot, White, Brown and Granary) -- Dessert Counter with various sponges, trifle, 6 different Ice Cream flavours (scoop) -- with toppings, different sauces etc. So as you can imagine -- we always looked forward to dinner.
Afternoon Tea and Snacks: Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Fruit Juice, Water -- and various cakes. (Strawberry CheeseCake was the best). Various muffins, etc.
Breakfast: They did continental breakfast, (Sliced meats etc) -- and also Cooked Breakfast (Sausage, Bacon, Egg, Toast, Danishes, Cakes (?!?), Beans, and of course Tea/Coffee etc.
Swimming Pool: The BEST swimming pool we've had. Certainly a pool you can expect to see in 4/5* hotels.
Location: To be honest, there's NOTHING locally. However, Playa Del Ingles and Maspalomas Centre is 3 Euros in a taxi. Very cheap.
We didn't leave the complex through the day as the food / drink was ideal. Entertainment wasn't up to much -- but we still went to the Disco bar every night, and watched the Entertainment. Very funny!
The all inclusive ends at 10.30pm every night -- would have been great if it went on to Midnight, but you can't have it all.
So -- I would highly recommend this hotel.
only 2 more days to go
by TripAdvisor Member mgmaspal
We have only 2 more days to go at the dunas mirador. Why am I spending time on holiday writing a travel review? I think that says it all really! Couldn't wait till we got home - needed to vent a few feelings and it is almost impossible to speak to any of the hotel staff about problems. We are however about to change rooms - yes block F near the motorway has been a challenge, as has the fact that we are above the club/disco and the night time noise from the pool bar funnels straight up into our room. We have had to wait a few days for a room swap as the hotel has been fit to burst. It is obviously a popular place for Spanish guests - young and families but all noisy!
We wanted a relaxing pool based holiday with a beach fairly nearby. We cannot get a sun lounger without waking at 6am - the hotel rule about not reserving sunbeds is not enforced.
The staff are overstretched. We have had to continually wait a long time for service at the bar, the reception etc.
Beach too far away - would have been ok if a stroll through pleasant surroundings - not ok as having to cross busy roads etc.
Food is appalling - hot cooked breakfast is, in a word, cold. Only one vegetable at dinner (quite liked the brussel sprouts actually but they were a bit odd with the chips and the mushroom spaghetti carbonara!).
Not what we wanted, Not what we thought it would be like, Would not recommend it, Furious that I have paid £1200 for two of us to spend time at the equivalent of a travelodge by the motorway. Not worth what we paid by a long stretch.
The final insult - we were informed our transfer back to the airport would be an hour earlier than published so no time for a last dip in the pool on our last morning. Then again we probably wouldn't have been able to get near the pool anyway!
Okay for the price

We spent a week at the Mirador (part of the Dunas group of Hotels).
We could not fault the value for money and the Hotel was very clean. The rooms were nothing special and a litte dated and the beds were very hard. The door faced the main road which had heavy commercial traffic. We did however face the lovely pool which was very pretty, particularly at night.
One of the pools was heated and frequented mainly by the kids. They love the lack of lifeguards and regard for health and safety! Yes it seemed fun.
AI was a good deal . Drinks were only self serve in the restaurant and the times of availabilty were restricted at some venues.
As a veggie I was stuck for options other than cheese and salad. Even my hubby and daughter grew bored of the fayre. This however did not deter one rather large cockroach from foraging in the outside eating area . Yes it was a shock to everyone!!!
Staffing in general was okay but I did note one member of staff with a bad attitude to a guest.
Reception was slow to respond to requests (3 days for an extra pillow) and was permanently busy.
I do feel however that the cost of appx £330 for 3 adults for a week was brilliant value all considered.
The Resort
If you too like cheese youll love Sioux City which was a really good laugh and good value at 14 euros each with a free bus.
Aqualand was dearer at 21 euros each but worth the trip. Watch out tho as the sunbeds cost an additional 3 euros hire per day.
Highly recommend Puerto De Mogan on the Friday (market day)
Absoloutely huge and Very pretty. Take the bus though at 12 euros as the taxi cost us 28. Takes about 45minutes.
We were a bit isolated from the resort and the free beach bus busy but taxi very cheap 3 to 4 euros.
One piece of advice is to ask reception for a local map at the beginning of your stay.
You get what you pay for after all. We would not return but recommend it as a good family hotel ,whole holiday cost appx £1200.

"Dont Panic - Great Value For Money!!"
by TripAdvisor Member holidaylover68
We were here in July 07....booked fairly last minute and then read the reviews....hence we started to panic!
But we should not have worried at all...arrived at the mirador very late at night, check in was easy and was offered food there and then as we had missed the allocated food times by a long way.
We stayed all inclusive and spent the rest of the week MORE than happy with the food provided - if you expect the ritz or are only happy with Mcdonalds everyday then you are going to be dissapppinted....it was good 3* food- serving fresh pastas, salads, fruit, fish, meat (including sirloin steak and roast pork carved to order) plenty of veg and varying dishes to suit all customers (which did include Germans, Spanish and Dutch but we British are not the only people on the planet!) give it a go you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The room was clean, and fairly spacious so no problem there.
The pool is lovely and there was a rule about reserving sunbeds - they rope the pool of until 9am and then they let you in and it can be a free for all but it least it stops certain people leaving towels out from the night before or early in the morning - there are plenty of sunbeds but you couldn't always get a sunshade - but hey you cant have everything!
The hotel supplies a free bus to and from the beach and is situated so that taxis to most of the attractions are a cheap taxi fare away...only 4 euros to aqualand ...6 to palmitos park (the zoo)......3 to the big shopping centre...and 3 to the big funfair near town.
The last thing to say is about the alcohol...its great - plentiful and definately NOT watered down.
Hope this has been of help and you enjoy your holiday.
bad experience
by TripAdvisor Member BelfastTyson
we stayed here for a week in july 2007 and it was absolutely awful - thats being polite
the following are only a few of our grumbles :-
no air-conditioning -room very dark and hot
very poor food options
rude and unhelpful staff
all - inclusive drinks served in small disposable containers only available at pool bar which was constantly busy and closed at 10.30 pm!
international entertainment program abysmal - worst ever seen in 25 years of foreign holidays - entertainment team was sacked during our stay
accessibility to room very poor - lots of steep steps
hotel quite isolated - surroundings very desolate
