More about Altamar Aparthotel
i love the altamar
well i haved stayed at the altamar aparthotel several times and i love the place. the entertainment crew were fantastic they made it an hoilday to remember, the staff and reps were all fantastic too. on our stay there was refurbishment in place but it didnt really effect us that much as we was hardly nowhere near the work. The only thing i hated on our stay was the amount of little crocrotes we had in our room and that only happened of a night but someone had to kill them or they wasnt going to sleep. The markets was excellent and to get to the town it doesnt even cost 3euros. i think i have covered most things and i am actually trying to get back out there at the moment as i love the place that much and do recommend it to other people.
We are just back from the Altamar. Spent two weeks there.
The food and the cost of the food is excellent. First Class Buffet. Everyone is very friendly and the entertainment team "Gazza and Stretch" are brilliant fun.
The views are the best. Weather was also brilliant. Our apartment was very nice, we were at the far end. I know they have just completed the refurbishment of the right hand block, but I am not sure about the middle.
As everyonw will tell you, the lift is a bit of a pain, but you just have to be patient. I can assure you that all the building work is complete and the crane has been taken down.
My husband and I met my sister, husband and teenage boy & girl there and they accomodated us next to one another. They also loved the Altamar. Make sure you go on the trip to see the Dolphins.
Would go back again without doubt.

Simply The Best
This was our second jaunt to the altamar having been there previously in 2001 and just like the first time found everything about it absolutly superb.
The rooms are very spacious and clean with maids in cleaning at least 3 times a week, the staff are very helpful from the bar to reception and in between and if any problems arise a phone call to reception and they deal with any qualms you have very effectivly, the pools are cleaned every morning and the food and entertainment at the altamar and outwith in the nearby europa centre is excellent.
Only gripe i may have is that the same entertainers were still telling the same jokes, that aside i am going back this year '05 as i believe it's better the devil you know.......
I have just returned from the Altamar after 2 weeks holiday, apartments were very clean, stunning view looking over the sea, plenty of good entertainment every night with gazza and stretch, holiday reps (Vicky and Adam)were excellent at their job, food very enjoyable, would recommend these apartments to anybody any age.
loved every minute
i stayed JULY4-18 with husband and 2 kids 13 n 10 we loved every minute of our holiday the staff were great apartments clean a block lift a joke lol saw a couple of cockroaches all fortnight but thats what you expect in a hot place it was so good we are going back at new year unfortunately no room at altamar so staying up road! lol good location great veiws quite quiet away from center but taxi only 3 euros highly recommend it to familys and couples.
Best holiday ever!
After all the 'Building work reviews' We were dreading what we would find at The Altamar, but we had a fantastic holiday! The apartments were just big enough for 2 adults and 2 children (one being 15) very big terrace with a lovely seaview. Only gripe were the pullout beds they were very uncomfortable. The ceiling fans were very cooling at night so it wasnt hard to sleep. The lifts (we nicknamed The Wonkavator) it was okay, a few dogdy moments, we never got stuck in it but some did. The pools were great, we always sat by Pool A, got to get up about 7.30ish to get sunbeds though! Our daughter who is 8 played lovely in the pool allday has did all the kids, you didnt have to worry much about her, lots of children there, so if youve got kids its a great place! At night we would walk to the Europa Centre which is just up the road, there are lots of places to eat there, and a bit of a kids play area. The Altamar food is okay too, we ate there a couple of times. Try the Buffet! Entertainment is fine, Gazza and Stretch do a brill job with the kids, at the end of two weeks we all can do the actions to most of the songs! They have Cabaret artists on later, Hypnotist, singers, comic etc etc... all very watchable. Everything shuts down dead on 12.30 in the hotel. We only walked down the hill once to the Amordores Beach, great once you were there, taxis are very cheap to get about in, so dont worry about walking!! This is the only place we have been to where we would consider going back to, so try it for yourselves!!
Not for us
Just came back after spending a week self-catering at the Altamar. Was a bit cramped with 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Was a bit miffed at the thought of having to pay €10 for kettle hire for the week so we boiled our water for brewing up in the pan. The apartment was clean enough, only a couple of cockroaches on the patio area but saw lots of them scurrying around late at night. The maid came twice a week with plenty of towels and loo rolls and even did the washing up!. The lifts were a pain so we spent most of the time walking up and down the steps in the sweltering heat. We were on level 1, the pool and dining area is on level 4 and the reception area/shop level 8. We had all actually lost weight on our return home. :o) Had a great view of the scrubland beneath us :o( and if we craned our necks, we could actually see the sea.
Didn't really visit the on-site entertainment, preferring to go into the Europa Centre (expensive as we found to our cost) and down into Puerto Rico centre itself. Most places were charging €2.5 to €4 a pint, so we decided on the local beer, which we found for €1 a pint.
SCRUFFY MURPHYS, although expensive for the beers, was a good laugh.
Got mighty cheesed off with all the bar owners touting for business and all the touts trying to sell cheap and nasty sunglasses and watches. I know they are only trying to earn a crust, but we came on holiday for relaxation, not for being badgered every 2 minutes :o(
Tried our luck walking down to Amadores Beach but the pavements are smooth tiled and I ended up sliding down the winding paths for most of the way. Always plenty of Taxis available, but just be wary of sneaky Germans racing up the queue trying to nick your taxi!
AMADORES BEACH was great as was PUERTO RICO. Only gripe with PR beach was that the toilets closed @ 8pm, and as an aside, most public toilets in PR charge between 50 & 60 cents for the privilege. One set actually handed out rations of toilet paper !!!
Sounds like a real whinge...It was OK, but I wouldn't go back to the Altamar or Puerto Rico itself.
Just wasn't for us, unfortunately :o((((
was the best time ever! :)
the staff in this accommodation were great and really friendly. that includes the reception, bar, cleaners and entertainment staff. great view from balconys. close to an exciting water theme park too :)
really clean rooms. two clean pools and lots to do all day and all night long. different types of live entertanment every single night. there is always interaction with the visitors and they constantly make u feel welcome. brill weather and beautiful beaches. will def be going back here cant wait. big gazzas assistant stretch was a wee cutie too :) x
Building Site till July 2005
The Building Site,is a better description of the place at the moment with extensive building work in progress untill July. Only One Lift operational and that broke down twice while we were there.
Staff are great but the place was only partially occupied, only one pool and plenty of dust and noise.
Give it a miss untill referbishment complete.
Not for the Cuture Vultures
The Altarmar - have just returned I notice in the reviews that a few people have given big Gazza and his team a rubbish review, but I will say this in his defence that if I had to deal with majority of the customers that go there year after year I think he deserves a medal. The aparthotel itself is very clean, the food and drink are of a reasonable quality, and the staff, reps and yes even big gazza and his team showed agreat deal of customer focus though the place and rooms do need updating. The place its self is dominated by Scottish and tribes from nothern England with beer bellies and tattoo's (both men and women). The problem here is that if you are a culture vulture then this is not the place for you, if you want the Sun, sand, sea and and all your home comforts - english breakfasts, bingo, lots of beer drinking contests your chicken and chips in the evening or you have young children (the entertainment for them is very good) then go here. There is not much to do in the evenings, the town centers are a bit tacky but the are some good resturants by the harbour or on or near the two beaches. I have only been to Pueto Rico once and once was an enough. If you really want to see another side to Gran Canary then a trip to the ANFI site or up into the mountains are well worth the time.
Clear ocean with fish.
