More about Cala d'Or Apartments
loved the cala d'or
we have just arrived back from a two week stay at the cala d'or apartments in puerto rico.
the standard of the acccommodation was excellent. having visited the resort twice previously these were beyond by far the best apartments we have stayed in.
maid service was five times weekly, and towel and linen change twice weekly. the bar and restaurant was reasonably priced and served a variety of snacks and meals.
Entertainment was provided by Dave nightly and entertainment daily for children.
I strongly recommend staying at the cala d'or apartments.
simply the best
this was my 2nd visit to puerto rico but 1st time at cala d'or appartments.the hotel was very clean n the maids helped us keep on top of the housework.
the pool was cold but again very clean.being on a young group holiday we didnt stay round the appartments much at night but we did see 1 magic show that was mega.
we didn't have no trouble with noise at night n was aloud to have a good ly-in without being woke up.the only down side is where they are situated, we counted 288 steps from the commercial center upto the appartments but u can get a taxi for about 2euro or walk it everyday and get fit.
overall i would definatly go back its clean, staff are happy and helpful and the price is right!!!
loved the cala d'or!!!
What a holiday!! This was our 4th visit to the resort but our 1st time in the cala d'or, and believe me it wont be our last. The entertainment provided by Dave was excelent. He got all the the young and old involed with the activities, e.g killer pool, water polo ect. The entertainment on a night was great.
An honest opinion
Having just returned from a 10 day stay at The Cala D'or here are our findings, firstly and most inportantly in our opinion....cleanliness, this cannot be faulted, very very clean throughout the hotel, it seemed like the maids were constantly cleaning, hotel staff(reception etc) very friendly and polite and helpful, location.....nit ideal for the less mobile or elderly if you like to walk it's 250 ish speps up from the resort centre, don't let this put you off though, taxis are readily available and very cheap, entertainment....we went a couple with no kids and didnt stay in the hotel at night so cannot really comment, but the kiddies entertainment via dave seemed spot on.
on the down side the hotel seemed a touch noisy(not enough to stop us returning)but if you like to go on hiliday and sit and relax around the pool and on your balcony it's not for you)we didnt stay round the pool or on the balcony so it was fine, the only other negative would be the pool area, seemed on th small side and can imagine it being a bit of a squeeze in july/august.
the resort itself has something for everyone both on the food and drinking side of things, except if you like total peace and quiet.
hope this helps!!!
Stayed here for 5 days in November 2006 for a quick getaway and for some relaxation and Winter Sun. Unfortunately, we got neither!!
Don't get me wrong, if you have a family with children this place is probably ideal as there is entertainment around the pool most of the day, and every evening.
Our apartment was great with a sofa bed (not that comfortable) and a bedroom with twin beds, as well as a kitchen with a dining area, and as others have said, the place was extremely clean.
There was a lot of noise at night, but this was due to the hotel clientele rather than the hotel apartments themselves.
Yes, there are 250 ish steps to get in and out of town but taxis are cheap, and as puerto Rico is built on a hill, this is what you'd expect surely?
The hotel staff (On reception/bar) were indifferent, neither friendly or unfriendly. The bar area itself isn't very welcoming but it does have a big screen TV with Sky TV, and there is a computer in the corner for internet access. Think it was 1 Euro for 10 mins but don't quote me on that!
As we didn't have the best weather this put a little dampener on the few days we had here, but I wouldn't go there again. Saying that i wouldn't travel to puerto rico again. It was a little too tacky for me, and i was bored of the place after 3 nights so I can't imagine what people do here for two weeks!
Each to their own, but if you like to sit round a noisy pool all day reading English tabloids and playing waterpolo in the day and doing pub quizzes and watching dodgy Elvis impersonators in the evening then this is the place for you, if you don't....then avoid like the plague!
Brilliant Place to Stay!!!!!!
Our Visit to the Cala d'or was a great place to go we stayed there for seven days and were given a very, very warm welcome.
Entertainmaent at the Cala d'or was great provided by Dave there was a kids party every night, Bingo with prizes such as wine vodka ect. and after all that there would be shows such as reptile shows, Kareoke and music. During the day ther would be a pool competition, darts and water polo.
The cleanliness of the apartmens were incredible and every room had a view of puerto rico bay the rooms came with micro-oven and other kitchen facilities bath, shower and terrace.
There was a bar area, resturant, internet connection(which cost 1 euro for 10 minutes) elevators and a baggage weighing system for checking your bag weight(which also cost 1 euro)
On a negative note the Cala d'or is up the side of a cliff and it is 189 step stair case for the town center to the top of this cliff which is a down side for elderly people ect.
But otherwise the Cala d'or is an excellent place to stay and I look foreward to staying there again.
Brilliant Modern and Clean From Greater Manchester England
We stayed for 1 week at the Cala D'or apartments from the 3rd to 10th
March 2007.We have been to Puerto Rico twice before and it has always
been a big favourate of ours. This was the first time in these apartments and YES we would stay again. They were brilliant, clean, bright and modern our room was 1 bedroom apartment sleeping 4 people,
it had a split level kitchen with sitting room. The step at the split
level is 9'' high you may want to keep an eye on toddlers, if you have any with you for tripping or falling on the step.
In the kitchen you have a kettle, toaster and microwave oven. There is also a safey deposit box in room it cost us 14 euro with a 6 euro deposit you get this back when you return you key.
Reception is 24 hour and the staff and cleaners are helpful. Towels changed once a week along with sheets, our sheets didn't get changed this may be because it was winter time and we were only there for one full week. Pool is clean wtih lots of sunbeds and chairs may get a little crowed in high season. Also available is a bar with a snack service serving from 10.00 and a mini market handy for you bottled water save carrying back to apartments up all them steps. We will talk about the STEPS later.
There is entertainment 7 nights a week. We never stayed in the apartments at the evening as we always went out to the centre of Puerto Rico.
To get to the centre of Puerto Rico you have a number of steps there are a few ways you can go by road with less steps or by all the steps there isn't more than 190 steps at the most. It's worth the climb to the apartments but just to let you know once you get to the apartments you have approx another 15 or so steps to Reception.
Day you fly home you leave your room by 10am they have a luggage area and they have a male and female shower room for those people with late flights, don't leave it to late to use they could get busy in high season.
YES we would defiantly go back to the Cala D'or but only in the winter as the noise from the centre can travel up to your room from below not to bad if you are sleeping in the bedroom that is at the rear of the accommodation but if sleeping in the sitting room your may get disturbed if you need to leave the patio door open for fresh air in summer months.
The Best, Year After Year After Year.
We first went there when our son was only 5, this was for a weeks break, and to see if our son would cope with the heat, it was unfortunate to experience builders and a re-fit of the complex, but this did not deter us, the atmosphere is just great, the location and views are brilliant, not for the faint hearted as the complex is situated high to the right of the valley.
The complex is spotless, the rooms are comfortable and basic, but very clean and safe.
The staff are very polite and the best I have experienced, the food is very good, and the drinks are well priced.
There is entertainment during the day, and every evening, not forgetting the BBQ's.
Taxi's are cheap to and from the main drag strip and is approx a 2 mins ride.
The whole resort is perfect, everything you'll ever need, good walking areas, clear sea and sandy beaches.
Since our first visit, we have been back to the same place 8 times, for either 11 of 14 nite holidays.
Be very warned, you will burn on the most cloudy of days, and if the skys are clear, cream up or suffer, especialy where water is concerned i.e the pool or boat trips.
Approx meal for 3 persons inc of drinks £35, there are bargain restaurants, but you need to be early to get a seat.
Super markets are every where, but prices do vary, we could self cater for ourselves, a meal this way inc drinks £8.
Best to pay by cash, a hidden fee is charged for credit cards.
Day trips are pricey, often the cheaper one's are the best, the resort complex can offer a better deal, do not be pressured into these trips, the choice is yours, NB, the booze cruise on the look a like pirate ship is rubbish, avoid it like the plague!!!.
Great Apartments, dodgy entertainment
We have just returned from an 11 night stay at these apartments.
Overall cleanliness can not be faulted. The Apartments are spacious and bright with superb views over the town and harbour.
In common with all properies in this part of Peurto Rico, the Cala d'Or overlooks the commercial centre which hosts most of the pubs and discos in the resort. The loud music goes on until 3.30 am and may disturb you if you are a light sleeper. As the bedrooms are at the back of the property this somewhat alleviates this problem.
Our main gripe was the entertainment. This consisted of a picture quiz and Bingo. It was supposed to start at 10.00pm, but never got under way before 10.45pm, and went on too long. This resulted in the actual entertainment not strating until after 11.15pm. On one occasion this meant that one act had to cut his show short as he was due to appear elsewhere. This was a shame as he was the best act to appear that week. In the morning the 'entertainment' started about 10.30 am which consisted of a rundown of what football could be seen in the bar and the music being played non stop until the evening
'entertainment' started. This means that between the noise from the commercial centre and the music round the pool, the only time there was any peace and quiet was between 3.30am and 10.30am! So if you are looking for a peacefull, relaxing holiday dont stay at the Cala D'Or!
Puerto Rico has a good choice of restaurants and bars and caters for all tastes and budgets. The beaches are clean and secure with the walk to Amadores worth the effort.. The trip up to the Europa centre will cost about 3 Euros by taxi, but is just a smaller version of the main commercial centre.
