My family and I have just returned from this hotel (Riu Vistamar) and we thought it was the best hotel we have ever stayed at.
The food, the rooms, the service, the staff, the pools, everything about this hotel was just 5*****
We will certainly be returning here again in the future

Riu Vistamar is a fab hotel....for anyone over the age of 50 or those with children under the age of 7! The hotel and food etc we found to be fine, pretty much as every other review on this site has said, However, the entertainment was great for kids (mini-disco for half an hour), but the main show only lasted for one hour, then the bar emptied and any atmosphere went with it. There was nothing else to do within the hotel (the pool bar was open from 7-9pm but was too windy to sit comfortably in). We are not youngsters (32/38) but found this hotel catered for the young and the older generation but not the in-between's. On a slightly different note, the hotel was predominantley German and Norwegian holiday-makers who are a complete law unto themselves. Helpful tips *bottled water is available at reception but you have to ask for this *there is no butter at the pool bar where they serve a continental breakfast (croissants/rolls/toast etc) *on the lower floors expect to up to 10 mins for a lift as they quite often go out of order *tips are not obviously given but the bar tenders/bus drivers/bellboys must appreciate them *not all food is clearley marked with what it is but the chefs all speak limited english *plentiful hangers/drawers/wardrobe space *only Sky News and BBC World on TV
Just returned from a ten day stay at the Riu vistamar in Amadores
Hotel and rooms were lovely as were the facilites at the hotel. The view from the room was fantastic too.
The food was above average for a four star hotel. There was a huge choice and food was served somewhere around the hotel almost all day. Dinner in the evening is at a set time either 6.30or 8.30pm. We ended up choosing the 6.30 option but not going down untill about 7.15. there was still pleanty of fresh food still being cooked.
Imported drinks were available at the bars but you must ask for them by brand name or you just get the local stuff.
Sunbeds were difficult to find as the hotel was very busy over the Easter period. You can put towels on the beds in the morning but if you do it before 9am the staff remove them.
There was entertainment and kids clubs throughout the day but we didn't use this facility.
Only thing lacking in this hotel was a quiet lounge area away from the evening entertainment for those who wanted to relax and have a conversation.
My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a week in march. We were after a place in the sun to relax and enjoy the sunshine and we got both. We booked independently and had car hire for the week (at £86 we found this good value as we were offered transfers for £77!!). The hotel was faultless, the room was clean and spacious for what we needed! the staff were always helpful and we found the meals second to none- you could not starve here!
We arrived at midnight and were greeted with a buffet and drinks which was a nice touch as we were tired and hungry from the travelling.
I was 6months pregnant and emailed the hotel for a room close to the amenities and we had a lovely room on the fifth floor with a fantastic view!
For a break in the sun to relax and eat and drink well, we recommend this- we'll be going back soon!

Excellent service,the staff could not have been more helpful. The food was excellent and was available all the time, considering it is quite a popular hotel we were amazed that you did not have to wait to get a table to eat. The staff were very quick at clearing tables and nothing was too much trouble
My husband and I stayed here in March 2006 for our honeymoon. Everything about it was excellent if you can get past the stampede for food! We would have preferred a little more room between tables but that is being picky.
The resort is excellent, the coastal walk into the town is beautiful. All the staff were very friendly, the rooms clean and the activitis lively. The evening entertainment wasn't quite to our taste but with taxis so cheap you can always venture out.
Would highly recommend this to couples (old and young alike) and I would imagine if you have children it would be bliss!!
We stayed at the Vistamar last year and have to say for an all inclusive hotel its really good value. We couldnt fault anything about the food or staff but have to say the entertainment got a little bit boring (but doesnt it always!). This is an ideal hotel if you have children or just want a relaxing break. The only reason we booked this hotel was because its so close to Amadores but we didnt leave the hotel once (although the beach is lovely). Thoroughly recommend.
Just come back and if you are going out there then lucky you, had a great time could not fault the food and staff everything was superb. Rooms are ideal and the views are great ,shame the bar shuts at twelve but hey you just start earlier, highly recommended
not sure what the people from thurrock who stayed here in january had been taking!.they must be on a different planet, who wants to make cups of tea in your room anyway!. nice style rooms,small balcony, good bed. we cannot believe how anyone could be dissapointed with the vistamar. im 48 years old, have been everywhere on holiday for over 30 years now and this is the best! it should be 5 star really. food is superb, we had smoked salmon and champagne for breakfast, there is always a chef carving meat[pork,beef,lamb etc] there are endless other sorts of food, lunchtime and evening, snacks all day, pizza, burgers etc. good quality drinks[not cheap cola etc as served at some all inclusive hotels] the pools are lovely, towels available daily from the poolside cabin. etc etc. evening entertainment was in house plus some outside people[magician,tumbling team,singers etc] we are going again in july, hooray!!!
Before I start all i can say is that this is an excellent hotel, just not for everyone. The food is excellent. The maid service is excellent and the staff at the hotel are excellent.
1. If you have any mobility difficulties this hotel is not for you, there is a hill leading from reception just to get out of the hotel and whilst taxis are cheap if you only want to go for a stroll you can't get out of the complex.
2. The tables in he dining room are extremely close together so I hope you are sociable On the last couple of days we were completely surrounded by germans and felt very isolated.
3. There is satellite tv in the hotel but if youre into football head to Biblos in the Europa Centre as the hotel commentary is entirely german. Most of their satellite tv is in german.
4. If you do decide to go e-mail the hotel and ask for a room overlooking the Amodores Beach..the view is incredible.
5. This is a fantastic hotel. Just not for us. It is very german orientated. The kids club seemed realy good. however even the mini disco is in 4 languages. What can I say. We have been to the self catering Altamar apartments next door a few times and would definitely go back there. Dont think I will return to the Vistamar unless we can get a very good deal.
6. Just in case anyone wants/needs to do any washing there are no laundry facilities, i.e washing machines etc.
7. No tea/coffee in rroms and I know it sounds pathetic but after a night of drinking I quite like a tea late on but come midnight the hotel stops serving everything including soft drinks and tea/coffee and as there is nothing in the room you are snookered. also no lights on any balconies.
Hope I have covered most things. This is a beautiful hotel, make up your own mind.
