More about Mogan Princess Aparthotel
Just returned from a lovely weeks holiday in this hotel. read the other reviews and was a bit wary about all the stairs etc, Got there to be told we were on the top of the top floor but wow what a view it was fab and although it was a long way up the lifts were fast and always available and you can see the view all the way - I was glad I was up there - no noise fab views and the sun does not go down until 7pm so we sat on our room in the sky with a couple of vodka and tonics every evening. Place is spotless and the restaurant also has stunning views and the food was not bad either, there is always somthing to eat and although there is not a vast choice what there is is good. Pool bar was also very good , strong drinks and if you engage the staff they are lovely.
The best thing about the pool is that it is heated (very rare in the canaries) so you could get in and out all day
We visited the other Princess Hotels in Taurito but they all seemed a little tired compared to the Mogan Princess. Entertainment at night is hilarious but good fun.
Must mention Peter on Reception - had good fun with him even tho he he very professional he is hilarious and liked to have a joke with us
Would return to this hotel again for a weeks break in Feb
My partner and i stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks between 4 september to 18 September 06.
As having worked in the hotel industry this is NOT a 4 * hotel the service is poor, the food boring and repeative(chicken/pork/gammon) it just makes a 3 *.
We had a quiet room this being 4410b to get to the room it was 3 seperate lifts and various numer of stairs in between the lift. To the room from reception was between 5 to 10 minutes. If you have any mobility problems do not even thing about this hotel.
The hotel location is very quite there is no outside nightlife in taurito so it is either puerto rico or morgan. The air conditioning is poor in the rooms there is none in the dinning room or bar these both being glassed fronted it gets very warm inside.
The staff are sullen, rude and ignorant. I watched on restaurant waiter touch with his hands every bitof cutlery he put on a table. His fingers were all over the eating part of the cutlery not a 4 * service.
I could go on but just to say this hotel location is remote, the food is boring we actually hired a car just to get a decent meal, the staff rude and not interested.
Good choice of hotel
This hotel is a great place for a break. Set on a hill side, so if your a lazy so and so don't bother.
This is a good time out place set in a cove with fantastic sea views.
Plenty food, entertainment the same as any other holiday venue.
Loads of stairs to the top flight rooms, so again if ur lazy book a low room, but then you don't get the view.
Rooms clean, comfy and towels done everyday, u don't need to take beach towels as they are supplied.
Would recommend this hotel for a time out place so if ur looking for fast and furious, forget it.
Fantastic location for total relaxation
We booked this holiday a few days before we travelled and had the most amazing time.
The hotel is situated at the top of a hill, however it is only a ten minute stroll down to the bus stop, where the local buses take you to the busier resorts, if you are looking for more action.
There is a free bus from the hotel in the mornings, but it returns just after lunch, so not much use if you fancy a day out. The taxis are also fairly cheap for getting around.
The up side of having the hotel at the top of the hill is that it is so peaceful. We slept with the patio doors open wide every night, listening only to the sound of the waves on Taurito beach.
Our room was at the top of block six, which meant a journey of three seperate lifts and one long ramp with our suitcases to get to our room. We did find a shortcut, using only one lift, but with four flights of stairs instead.
After the delicious and plentiful buffet breakfasts and dinners, we were actually glad of the excercise! The food was a fabulous selection of hot and cold meals, delicious salads and plenty of choice. We had fresh Tuna steak one evening, Mussels and fresh Sardines on another. There was also a different choice of a pork or a chicken dish every night.
The two swimming pools were wonderful. We chose to spend our days at the top 'adults only' pool, which was smaller, but there were still plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas to go round.
We found only two negative points to the whole week, one being the price of drinks in the bar. EU3.15 for a small beer and EU6.00 for a Bacardi and Coke. The bar was therefore very quiet in the evenings, which was perhaps not a bad thing.
We chose to take a stroll to the local Spar shop at the bottom of the hill and bought our own drinks at a fraction of the price. Along with many others, we enjoyed our evenings on our own balcony, watching the sun set.
The only other negative point was the lack of facilities for a late check out. We had arrived at 5.30am, with our room having been available for us from 12.00pm the previous day. This meant that we had to check out at 12.00pm on the day we left, even though our flight home was not until 3.50am the following day.
Given a choice, we would have opted to wait until 12.00pm on the day we arrived; so that we could have kept our room for a shower and snooze on the day that we left. Hanging around the pool, the bar and reception for over twelve hours did get a bit tedious!
We had been told we could pay EU30.00 for late check out, however it was not available on the day we left. We were therefore given just half an hour in a courtesy room to shower and change before dinner that evening.
Putting that grizzle to one side, the Hotel itself was spotless, the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and polite. Overall it was the most relaxing and peaceful holiday we have ever had.
Thankgoodness for the sun!
My daughter and I wanted a quiet holiday which is what we got. Once you get to know your way around it's ok. The lifts are quick thankgoodness as you have to use them to get everywhere. Very clean and tidy and there is a little shop to buy books, papers sweets etc. The staff were not all friendly but they were always busy. There was always plenty of food but by the end of the holiday we had had enough of salads. Fortunately for us the sun did shine and we spent most of our days by the pool which was great. The hotel entertainment was awful and we found ourselves in bed by ten most nights. There is a coach from the hotel to Puerto Mogan everyday and to Puerto Rico. The beach is a good 15 minute walk down a steep hill and it's a killer walking back! The road up to the hotel is a bit rough and tatty with rubbish and the main road runs below the pool area which made it noisy with the traffic at times. The buses went from the bottom of the hil and are cheap, so great for getting around. We did not have a rep so organised our own trips which was great. Must do's - Puerto Mogan. Jeep Safari and boat trip from Puerto Rico(all day).
We hired a car at the airport for the week and arrived in Taurito in the dark. There were no signs to the hotel anywhere and the hotel itself didn't have a lit up sign anywhere on the building. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor of the top block and given a very vague map on how to find the room. We wandered around for a while and finally found the room with help from other guests. We had booked a studio room with half board, we found pictures of the room on the net and expected sofa beds which could be converted into seating during the day. We had infact two single beds which almost totally filled the room, one armchair and one uncomfortable wicker chair. We had a fridge and a two ring hot plate but only a frying pan to heat up water for drinks. If we went down to the dining room we had to walk down two lots of stairs and 3 lifts, plus a walkway on each floor (these became very slippery when it rained). If we went to the swimming pool we had to add another lift to the journey.
The food was poor, often only luke warm and very repetitive. One evening the only vegetable was tinned carrots, though there were plenty of salads. There was one lounge that only opened in the evenings, nowhere quiet to sit and have a chat with fellow guests as after dinner the entertainment took place in this lounge , first for children then some music and then whoever had been hired for the night, all very loud. Plus there was a pool table in the middle of the seating area.
The plus side was the cleanliness of the hotel, the friendly and helpful staff (though dining room staff could use extra training) and the views over to Mogan were superb though somewhat spoiled by the ongoing contruction of two new hotels directly opposite. The bathroom was good, it had a seperate shower cubicle.
This hotel was not of the same high standard as my previous Canary Island 4* accomodation. If I went to Gran Canary again I wouldn't stay there. Probably stay in Puerto Mogan.
Fantastic all round views !
The hotel was really nice as were all the staff. Our 2 room suite overlooked the pool and had unrestricted views to Mogan. As we had booked a suite we had two of everything even 2 balconies and a nice little fridge to keep the wine cool. My only negative of the holiday was the standard of the food, very bland Hare seemed to be very popular and came up on every evening as did pork and french fries ! But apart from that minor issue we had a grand time even climbing the steep hill.
Loved the staff, like a rollercoaster ride..........
Hi! We had a funtime at this resort. Great time were spent at the sunbeds in the area. The upperdeck was fine, but the pool were a bit cold at every level. Some of the crew must have worked overtime, cause we think we saw them everywhere? We ate at the restaurant as well, great good meals downstairs. Did not find the gym, and did not try the massage, uhu............busy trying to learn alot about the island. This place is near about everything that this very island has to offer, even Anfi del Mar as well. Great resort. It was a long way to the beach, far away but still close, eh.
Did not cost as much too. Overall a great resort. Have some free time, - just go............this is a place to have some funtime.
Good luck finding your room!
Perched at the top of a long pot-holed drive, the hotel overlooks Taurito Bay (with a number of other hotels clinging to the rockfaces) and Puerto Mogan in the distance. It's remote and unless you plan to spend the holiday entirely on site you will need to consider a taxi, car hire or a long hike to the main road where you can get a local bus. The hotel courtesy bus only runs limited times which are a bit restricting - although it is popular/busy and a timetable is provided by reception.
The rooms are on terraces built into the hillside which gives many a seaview (which from the upper terraces in particular is good). However the system of room numbering and the network of lifts and stairs covering these is designed to confuse. If you are on the upper levels it means getting in and out a few lifts which are spread around to catch you out! This is not a place for those who have mobility problems/are short of breath.
Rooms are functional - we had two small double beds pushed together which were not comfortable, wardrobe/storage space is fine, safe in room (small fee), fridge, kitchen sink and couple of hobs. There's also some basic cutlery and crockery but I wouldn't want to rely on these for self-catering here. TV has mostly non-English speaking channels. Note that the air conditioning does not work if you have door to balcony open and during our stay it was much needed with record temperatures being experienced.
Sadly the air-conditioning in other public areas (dining room and entertainment area) could not cope and we were frequently uncomfortably hot.
The food is all self-serve buffet style, although the waiters do bring you drinks and clear the debris on a regular basis. We found the food choice and quality was unpredictable. Some days very good and others poor. You will not go hungry unless you are particularly fussy - or too polite to battle with your fellow guests to get at the dishes! (It can be a bit frenzied at times). Safety warning - those with children in particular should beware of the toasters at breakfast - they are not guarded and are very hot! The area to the right hand side as you enter the restaurant has good views overlooking the sea but can be quite hot because of the greenhouse effect of all the windows.
The main pool on the entrance level accommodates everyone and has shallow areas suitable for young children or those just wishing to lie in the cool of the water. This pool features daily group activities organised by the hotel (volleyball, aerobics, etc) and has a small bar. There is a smaller pool further up on the hillside which is supposed to be for adults only and generally is maintained as such. It's quiet and features one side which overlooks the bay through a glass screen - very nice.
The small shop on site provides basics - newspapers, drinks, crisps, etc.
In the evenings the hotel put on free entertainment which again was of varying quality. Some nights the tribute artists (e.g. ABBA or Mowtown favourites) were very professional whilst others may have struggled for a spot on the local karaoke. Some nights it didn't suit many of the younger children after a while and their alternative unsuperivsed entertainment running around making a noise was distracting for the artists and those guests who wanted to see the show.
We ventured into Puerto Rico but didn't like it much (very commercialised) and Puerto Mogan which was far more attractive. The latter had a very busy market on one day of the week with good bargains to be had for those willing to haggle.
It's a big hotel but generally a get-away from it all location suited to those wishing to soak up the sun - including many families.
food is fantastic and plentiful (be warned i put on nearly a stone) the balcony view was stunning and as every room has a sea view take a camera. we got a couple of cloudy days but both got a nice tan despite that. check out porta de mogan its gorgeus , staff are friendly and cant do enough for you we will defo go back next year have a good hol x
Lemon trees in Puerto de Mogán.
