More about Sunrise Monica Beach

Monica Beach Hotel 10th - 24th

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from Monica beach and we thought it was one of the best holidays we had been on. We were on all-inclusive and were a party of 6 with three children aged 16, 15 and 11. i have been reading other reviews that say there were problems with germans and we had no problems with them they were pleasant and polite and we made lots of german friends. The food was brilliant, the best we have ever had on holiday. During the day you can get excellent food like bacon sandwiches, burgers, hotdog, toasties and cake. All the staff were very friendly. Especially the animation team who we found hilarious. They ran things like water polo, dart competitions, volleyball, football there is something to do all day if you want to! There is kids club that is ran in the day who looked like they were having great fun as we saw them around the hotel dressed as pirates or playing crazy golf! There are tennis courts which are free but you have to pay to hire the rackets- so if you want to play a lot then bring your own racket. The entertainment room was not the best and the shows were OK. While we were there was a Flamenco dancers, lord of the dance, bingo, quizzes and there is a mini disco for the children before. If you dont fancy the entertainment room there is a bar called african bar which is quiet where you can sit and play cards or just chill out. Our accomadation was good and you are advised to hire a safe which we did and had no problems. The maids cleaned the room everyday and there were towels, hairdryer and you could even hire beach towels. There is a fridge in the room if you want to keep water cold. We travelled on the bus several times and found it easy and cheap. Reccomend going to Jandia, beautiful beach. We went on a couple of oragnised trips through Airtours and would definatly reccomend the "Magic Cat" and the "Sub Cat" although fairly expensive a great day out and we really enjoyed it.

good holiday apart from the germans

by A TripAdvisor Member

book self catering but when we arrived there wasn"t much of a choice for english, german bar and restaurant just outside hotel nothing much else around. Decided to go allclusive much more relaxing. Germans thought the monica beach hotel was their hotel very rude and very arrogant. there is also a lot of thieving at this hotel the reception staff and the manager didn't want to know. Mattie our holiday rep said he had to stay impartial as not to rock the boat, even though he was suppose to be OUR support. Anybody going to ths hotel you will have a good time, but much sure you book the safe.

Germans Germans Germans

Stayed at the Monica Beach for two weeks. The hotel is around 90% german and many of the staff are german. This means that everything is geared towards the germans. The rooms are ok but could do with some updating. The room door looking like it was about to fall off and my boyfriend managed to pull the wardrobe doors off. The pool areas are very nice to sunbathe in. There are two main pools, one of which is quite noisy with the daytime entertainment (well thats what they called it) so you can always escape to the quieter pool if you want some peace and quiet. The food was ok the first week but went downhill drastically the second. Very repetitive if you go all inclusive. Great if you like fish, i.e squid, oysters etc but if not it is very poor, although there is a nice chinese about twenty minutes walk down the road. Entertainment is very poor, there was a Mr & Mrs Monica Beach competition where guests basically make fools of themselves and not much else. Costa Calma is a very spread out resort and is quite quiet. If you want to do some proper shopping go to Jandia about a 15 minute drive down the road (although the bus service to Jandia is not the best, we waited almost an hour and ended up in a taxi - about 18 euros) A highlight of the holiday was visiting Oasis Park Zoo - 17 Euro entry fee. Would definitely recommend visiting here. Is a ten minute bus ride away - 2 Euro. If you go make sure you see the sea lion, parrot and reptile shows. It is also worth visiting the sand dunes in Correlljo - quite spectacular. All in all an ok holiday. I would go to Fuerteventura again but would stay in a different more compact resort.

Great!

I went on holiday to Monica Beach hotel in 2002 and loved it. We have booked a holiday to come back in August this year so I thought I would check out recent reveiws. We were a party of 6, including 3 children. Everyone loved it. When we arrived we were given the key to our room immediately. Pool was great, food was nice, lots of choice. Breakfast brilliant! We had set tables so we could go in between certain times and were seated on a big table each time. Staff welcoming and friendly. Rooms were really nice, very clean. Everyone is on about there being loads of Germans being there, it states in the brochure that there is up to 80%! Yes they do nick the sunbeds but who doesn't! The entertainment was good, liked each night! something new each time. One night was dedicated to Germans but if there are 80% what do you expect! The staff spoke broken English and understood our needs. I don't understand what more some people want, we thought it was a great holiday!

Would not go back

The hote is nice but unsutiable for people with walking problems, It is on the beach but fails to mention the climb to get to & from. Does not cater for you if you are self catering could not get in the reastrunt for dinner tryed a couple of times was not very helpful there. The maid service was good, but the bedroom wall in the apartment had tiny red things crawling on. Lots of germans some of the trips we done we was the only english people & the trip was done in german, not many shops & reastrunts around, This holiday was booked for its beach frount & local shops, due to my disability & walking problems & i got to the beach once & once you been round the shops once there not much else to do.

Glad to be home

So glad to be back home, do not go if self catering . Appartment long way from any thing except mini markt which shuts from 1300 to 1700, dirty pool area not hosed down once in fortnight we stayed, waited 2 days for them to fix shower, maid service erratic or non existant. No one wants to know you if you are not "FULLY INCLUSIVE" except the miriad of cockroaches which appear as soon as the turn out the lights at 2300 when the fully inclusive ends.Would not reccomend this excuse for accomadation to any one except those people who live in central europe, they are welcome to it.

Avoid This Hotel!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed at this hotel during July 05. It was like being parachuted behind enemy lines. Over 1000 germans and 28 british guests! They were rude, arogant and hostile towards us, as were the german staff at the hotel. We had our room ransacked by the hotel cleaners and money, camera etc stolen. Hotel Management did not want to know. They seem to condone employing thieves. Our rep, good old Mattie, did not want to get involved and refused to assist us or even coment as he felt he was not impartial. We even had to pay 50 euros to employ an interpreter to inform the police as they hotel staff and Mattie refused to do this for us. The hotel food was so, so, although very samey night after night, lunch times you were OK by the pool, provided you didn't mind eating toasted cheese or ham sandwiches for 14 days! The entertainment was dire. Very poor and all held in an underground smoke filled room. Just one word of advice, STAY AWAY, but if you have already booked, please Take the hotel safe. This goes down in history as our worst ever holiday. We were not the only british guests to have our rooms ransacked in the 2 weeks we were there.

No hope here !

We thought long and hard about this review. The Hotel is fair with nice grounds and an extremely cold swimming pool! It is totally geared to Germans BUT we did not find the German guests were not a problem we did however dislike being assumed to be German. We arrived on Christmas Eve just after 9 pm NO Food drinks could only be obtained from an extemely smokey bar. The main bar and restaurant staff refuse to speak English and pretend not to understand. Breakfast was the best meal of the day, excellent choice. Tha Gala Xmas Day dinner wass very good but after that the food went downhill rapidly. After that we got stew stew and more stew - loads of fish and not much else. The labelling needs some attention Pommes Frites was translated into English as Rice with Squid. We were a party of 5 and there were very few table that sat more than 4 - one morning there were none and so we pushed together 2 smaller tables - you would have thought we were responsible for mass murder!! a main waiter asked if we were German !! and then told us we were not correct and we had to separate\ the tables - we tried to esplain that there were no larger tables and he just kept muttering not correct not correct demanded our rooms numbers and made a report on us - very petty and stupid. If you are\ a couple beware - you will be allocated a sitting and a table for dinner and thay are very reluctant to change this if it does not suit you. You will also be put on a table with another couple. You will then have to make the best of it as they will not under any circumstances move you. This would have been totally unaccerptable to us so be careful if this sort of thing bothers you. It is a very quiet area not many shops but that suited us. Don't bother with the market it's trash. Loads of sunbeds round the pools and on the beach. The chambermaids were very hard working and the rooms were well cleaned every day, getting towels was sometimes a bit of a challenge. we would not return here mainly because of the food and poor restaurant staff. Don't go here if you have mobility problems loads of stairs and slopes. Hopefully the Spanish ban on smoking in public areas will improve this Hotel that's if they stick to the ban which I doubt. Good luck if you go - be prepared.

Boring, German Orientated, Bland

by A TripAdvisor Member

When my partner and I arrived at the hotel was night time and the first impression was "What a great hotel" We were really tired so we did not bothered to check out the night time entertaintment. The first morning we went to the Introduction Meeting by our holiday rep who knew the script very well, but in my view she was only interested on the commision from selling excursions. The animation team was a turn off as they were more concern in keeping entertained the german tourist than us from the UK. The food was ok although the lack of imagination from the chef was clearly reflected as the menu did not change very much from day to day. The resort was the most boring place I have ever been with only 2 bars and 4 shops selling all the same products. I have to say that thanks to the staff I didn't fall into the deepest depression. I would not recomend this hotel to anyone unless you wish to learn German and that is if they talk to you. I am definately not coming back.
