'Playa Flamingo' apartments in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote
Puerta Rico in Gran Canaria. Lanzarote: There was a main pool plus smaller pools in amongst the apartments. We were self-catered and took a last-minute deal which was very cheap - only £150 for a week including flights and accommodation.
Gran Canaria: My boyfriend and I paid approx £370 each to stay in the hotel in Gran Canaria, with breakfast and dinner provided. We booked through Holiday Hypermarket (Southampton) and it was fantastic.
Stayed there 14-28th june with my family age 4 and 6
Third time to Playa Blanca with the kids and the 1st time to this accomodation. Had previously stayed in Sun Royal and Sun Hotel, both of which are at the opposite end of the playa blanca.
Came across this place through previous walks along promenade and thought we would try them. It was a good choice , we stayed in an upper floor apt with excellent views across the sea and beach.
Apt more than large enough for my needs , large bedroom and large comfy bed setee for the kids in the living room. Kitchen fully kitted out - didn't matter though its really cheap to eat out and wasn't used except for breakfast. Fans in both bedroom and living room so not unbearable at night.
TV had free tiny tots - keeps the kids entertained during midday break - gets v.hot , and other channels which you can pay for if you want. but who goes on holiday to watch TV
Kids Club excellent and was more than happy to leave them there for a couple of hours. Safe and secure and kids won prizes and certificates which they loved.
Entertainment was good - usually popped in for a hour or so ever night , more so for the kids than anything. Usual holiday ents with a few surprisingly good ones and some not so good. Isn't really my idea of a good night out but again the kids loved it and once in they ran up to the front of the room to watch and left you alone for a while.
A good holiday was had by all , the kids loved it and anyone with young children knows that if they are happy you are happy.
Only one negative - Not a great fan of the pools at the resort , to deep to let the kids in alone, there is a small pool with a fenced of bit for the younger ones but to small. the youngest cant swim and the 6 year old can go 5-10 metres but cannot stand anywhere in the bigger pool and the fenced off bit would not be suffice to keep her happy. This is just my opinion and if my kids were older and better swimmers the pools would be just fine. Also the beach is dead handy - but i hate sand it gets everywhere
Best bet would be to sneak next door to the Timfanya Palace - brilliant pool for kids as it shelfs off to a max of just over 1 metre which means they can both never be out of their depth and you can sit and watch rather than have to be in with them all the time. Besides they like to be by themselve and make friends etc..
Hire a car they are dirt cheap - Skoda Fabia 70 euro all in for 4 days -air con included and needed. Island so small you can see it all in this time and visit all th 4* hotels and check out their pools etc
Would highly recommend this resort to young families
Great Entertainment, Great Appartments, Great Reps, Great Holiday!!
We stayed at the Playa Flamingo Apartments for two weeks in the middle of June my wife, little boy 5, little girl 1 and myself.
Let’s start by saying what a GREAT holiday we had.
The apartments were very clean and looked lovely. All the staff were very friendly and always took time to smile and say hi. They go the extra mile. One example was we had gone out for the day and when we came back, the maids had been, and they had even done the washing up including my daughter’s bottles.
The little touches like the swans they had made with the towels on our arrival and the flower they leave every time they visit, all go to making your holiday a more enjoyable one.
The entertainment was brilliant the reps work so hard and were all really superb. "Magic Martin's" one liners and clever wit/sarcasm was hilarious at times. He was also very professional during hes shows and always gave everything. My son, the little monkey "Jamie" with the high pitched voice, loved him, along with "Little Legs Laura" who is such a nice genuine person, she is just so good with the kids and always had a smile. We especially loved her doing the "Finger song"! They are a credit to Thomson.
The Barmans renedition of La bamba was brilliant as were the awsome Bejing acrobats! Tommy Cooper was also very good/funny.
The poolside activities were also good, with various games throughout the day, such as killer pool, water polo, giant connect 4, shuffle board, daily quiz’s, splash down and many more for both kids and adults.
The pools themselves were nice, the small pool was perfect for my 5 year old boy and 1 year old girl, the water came up to her waist. There was another pool on the resort which looked quieter with a fenced of smaller pool, but the main pool area was such good fun we didn't get to use it.
My only slight grumble (apart from losing my wedding ring, which the reception staff/ect helped as best they could) was the kitchen facilities were a bit small to cook a decent meal, although the prices for everyday food in the supermarkets were quite expensive anyway, so eating out is your best bet.
There are some lovely place to eat, our two favorites were the "Chinese/Asia restaurant" (which also do take away) and is just a minutes walk from the apartments, and the "Irish Anvil" which is about 5-10 minutes along the seafront.
My son will never forget this holiday, thanks again Laura and co!
We will defiantly be going back; this is the best holiday we have had.
Super family at its very best! 10/10 A+++++
Super Family Holiday!
I can't believe we've been back for a fortnight already - and whilst the tan has faded, the memories won't! We had a cracking two weeks in May at Playa Flamingo, and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
Firstly, with two small children (3 and 8), our prime concern was their safety, and the quality of the kids club. Whilst it's not surprising that everyone was keeping their children close, the kidzone team under the inspiring leadership of 'Sassy Sarah' were the most perfect bunch of kids reps we've encountered in four seasons of SuperFamily. Young enough to be full of fun, but mature enough to be responsible, sensible and completely trustworthy - our children loved spending time with them, and we were able to relax and enjoy the break. Thanks guys!
The Ents reps were brilliant too - Little Legs is a really genuine character who throws herself into everything and has time and a smile for everyone. Magic is the consumate professional rep - hell-bent on giving the best entertainment but fully understanding that sometimes, that means he has to be thrown in the pool. Just watch his Crocs! My personal holiday highlight is the finale of the reps show on our second week - Michael Flat Battery has to be seen to be believed and is, without a doubt, Martin at his very best (hello Mary!). It wouldn't be fair to not give a shout to Luke - new to the team and officially behind the desk - but never far from the entertainment side, and Mr Helpful...a real gem.
The apartments are really well located - the walk from Playa Flamingo to Playa Blanca is lovely - about 10-15 mins, but a really nice promenade. We only ventured out a couple of times, but I'm glad we stayed a bit further out - it gave more of a feeling of community. We were really lucky in that our apartment was just what we asked for - we overlooked the pool and were handy for everything without being bothered by noise - 49B.
The food in our first week wasn't brilliant as we went half board and the buffet didn't open until the half term week. Personally, I didn't have a bad meal, but my husband was a bit disappointed with some of the steaks on the a la carte. The buffet was lovely though, lots of choice - even for a fussy non meat-eater like me. The staff at the hotel were brilliant - we got on so well with the waiters and bar staff, and a little spanish goes a long way!
Overall - we just had a lovely, restful time. Met some great people & threw ourselves into all the activities. Highly recommended!
A lovely relaxing holiday enjoyed by all.
We have just arrived back from a lovely holiday at Playa Flamingo. The appartment was very clean and well equiped, all the fixtures and fittings were new and modern. We had an appartment by the pool/pool bar and expected some noise but it was all amazingly quiet. There are two pools and we spent most of our time (when it wasn't raining) beside the smaller one, we had no trouble with people trying to reserve sunbeds and if anyone did try they soon had there towels removed by the staff. Although the weather wasn't good we all really enjoyed our stay and certainly tryed alot of restaurants in Playa Blanca's main center. In the day we walked into town for lunch (only taken 20 mins max along the seafront) I'd say 90% of the places we tryed did excellent food at very low prices. We loved Brisa Marina & L'artista. In the evening reception ordered us a taxi into town which always arrived in minutes and only cost 250 euros & then we'd walk back to our appartment after dinner along the sea front, a lovely way to end a perfect night. The thomson reps were amazing with our daughter (7yrs) She was very sad to leave them. The kids club and drop in play times were brilliant, kids club was generly in the mornings between 10-12 and then the drop in was 1-3 sometimes 4-6 she loved every minute of it and so did my husband and I we had lots of chill out time. All the staff and reps were very helpful and friendly and I'm sure the cleaners had OCD they came in every day changing beds, washing up folding clothes even rearranging my daughters teddies on her bed, they also had lots of kisses for her which she loved. We payed to hire the safe in our room which cost 15 euros 5 of that you get back, also we hired beach/pool towels at 5 euros each with 5 deposit that was for the whole stay not per day and if you take them back up to reception in the mornings you could swap dirty towels for clean ones no charge. I also hired sun bed cushion from the supermarket under reception for 6 euros recieving 5 euros when returned so basically 1 euro a day. All in all a lovely holiday and are already planning to go back next Oct.
Busy Busy Apartments
We stayed at the PF Apartments and overall impressions were OK but cartainly not 4T as Thomson holidays rate it. Our apartment was spacious enough for 4 people and a reasonable standard of cleanliness. Had a big issue with security as we were an end terrace first floor apartment - at some point the apartment had been forced open through a side balcony door. In fact my 5 year old son had an inflatable stolen from our apartment entrance!!
The pool gets ridiculously busy - there is a tiny pool for kids and this is not adequate. Also the holiday reps work so hard at pool games but are too loud and frantic. We opted for the beach which is really close. Not the cleanest beach - a lot of cigarette ends, rubbish, etc. dropped by visitors.
The restaurants attached to the apartments are awful. We tried all of them.
Kids club OK - our children went once or twice. Staff seemed very young.
Entertainment at night not our taste, but you have the choice to participate or not.
We did the Thomson Timanfaya tour which was EXCELLENT - if you go on your own it will be cheaper but you dont get to drive through the national park. This was amazing and our driver put on a really good narrative as we drove round, The kids loved it.
Rancho Texas-expensive and fun to begin with but as the night progressed it got louder and smokier and full of a lot of drunk people. A bit on the rough side for young families.
Ferry to Fuerteventura - staggering price for foot passengers (£70 for 4) and not worth it really.
The restaurants in Playa Blanca were lovely if not a bit expensive and we found the locals (taxi drivers, waiters etc) a bit on the rude side to be honest.
Weather in July not fantastic - windy which is good but a lot of the 2 weeks were overcast.
We did have a good holiday (honest) but would not probably return to Lanzarote. We did get a good deal for this holiday withThomson but I would have been REALLY annoyed if I had paid full price.
loved it again
Me, hubby and 5yr old little girl have stayed here for the past 4yrs, and have booked again for 2008. Needless to say we find the whole complex brilliant. Although we stop in a private apartment w get full use of the complex ammenities. Never found a fault yet .
OK we go in the winter months for 3wks ( end of feb till march ) and yes the hotel only caters for 14 English apartments ( swaps in the summer months ) but have found they cater for all.
The reps in the ' Blue Moon ' always sing in English, talk in English, and are on the whole fantastic, especially Danny and Anders. They are also great with the kids.
The walk from the complex to the center of Playa Blanca takes about 15mins, but longer if you stop off at Snoopys Bar, who has a never ending supply of ice - cream and lollipops !!
Also try Manola's bar at the little pool on the complex, and guess who's the kid !!
All in all a fantastic holiday yet again, cant wait till next year . !
Excellent apartments and resort
We have just returned from a week stay at the F/P apartments and must say how untrue some of the reviews are. On entering our apartment we were extremely happy with the layout, decor and size and were surprised with some small fresh flowers placed in a glass in the main area, also flowers in the bathroom sink and in the bedroom there were towels on the bed shaped as two swans and again another small flower, these gestures although small (there were new flowers each time the maid came in!) really made us feel like this was to be a holiday we would enjoy! The entertainment at the Blue Moon was exceptional, something every night, the Bejing acrobats were excellent and my young children (4 and 7) were mesmerised by them! The rep show was fab Magic Martin was a star he really does work hard along with Liitle Legs Laura, there rendition of Ozzy and Kelly Osbourn was hilarious. Although our apartments were close to the Blue Moon bar you could not hear any noise.
The Chinese and Steak house were excellent especially as they had the bouncy castle so the children were kept occcupied whilst we had a nice meal. Throughout the day the reps kept everyone entertained around the pool and if you didnt want to join in they didnt push you to. Would we go back to these apartments.....definitely!!!!!
just got back from a week here and wish we had booked for 2 weeks now. cannot fault this resort at all the staff were so friendly everyone said "hola" to you the apartments were cleaned lovely and the flowers in your room and the arrangements of the towels was a lovely touch. the waiters getting up on stage and singing was great. the reps were brill too! overall the most friendliest and most welcoming hotel we have ever been too our four year didnt want too come home!
Playa Blanca, meaning "White Beach" is the southernmost town of Lanzarote. It is the newest, yet fastest growing resort on the Island. It is part of the municipality of Yaiza.
Approximately a forty minute drive (45 km) from the airport, it has its own school, notary, the bustling Rubicon Marina (with its twice-weekly market), church, harbour with ferries to Fuerteventura and a growing industrial area. Recent additions to the town have included the "Estacion de Guaguas" (Bus station) which also houses a police station. In early October 2008, Playa Blanca became the first municipality on the Island to have its own dedicated bus service, as opposed to buses simply passing through. Price are around €1.50 per journey and travel in a loop from Faro Park to Las Coloradas. Frequency is every half an hour
Playa Blanca has a variety of beaches, from Playa Flamingo to the west of the resort, past Playa Dorada in the centre, and on to Papagayo (a national park containing white sandy coves), to the east. To enter Papagayo beaches by road, the cost is €3 per car. This is free for residents, upon production of proof of identification. Just north of Playa Blanca is the Timanfaya National Park. The Atlantic Ocean is to the east, west and south. Farmlands along with barren lands dominate the outskirts. Access is via one of two routes, either the dual carriageway from Yaiza, or the mountain road of Femes.
The residents are an eclectic mix of Canarian, Spanish, German, English and most other European nationalities, as well as people from as far afield as Canada, Ireland and the United States of America.

RE: playa flamingo beach lanzarote
Restuarants and supermarkets at Playa Flamingo behind beach (inc a nice chinese), also a cash point.
About 10 minutes walk along the prom to Playa Blanca, shops, cafes, Netto and Spar supermarkets and more restuarants in pedestrian area. Taxi rank at end of pedestrian area at the roundabout. A chemist is also by the roundabout.
Bus stop to Arrecife & PDC close to roundabout by the harbour (ferries to Fuertaventura)as are some more eating places, car hire and bank(+ cash point)
They apparently have replaced the sand at playa flamingo (storm last Feb) but not repaired the breakwaters
Went there last March/April, off there again in 7 weeks time.
