Cheap and Very Central
An attractive price (30E per night) and the central location in the heart of the old town attracted me to Hotel Maga. It is less than 10 minutes walk from the bus station, overlooks a small leafy plaza and is opposite the historic Casa Iriarte. When you stroll back to your hotel room in the evening you can laugh at the poor, tired, drunk tourists who have to drag themselves up the steep hills to the posh hotels on the outskirts!!
Hotal Maga also has a reasonably priced restaurant which, between 7:30 and 10am in the morning is used to serve a decent continental breakfast to hotel residents. There is a coin-operated internet connection point in the lobby, though to be honest there are several very cheap and comfortable internet cafes nearby.
My room was very big (I got a double fro the price of a single) and clean. Somewhat irritatingly there were no plug sockets in the room (the standard lamps were there simply for show!), which was a nuisance when I wanted to recharge my phone, or plug in a kettle! I had read elsewhere that the evening noise from the street could be disruptive but, to be honest, for me that was part of the atmosphere of living in the middle of a town!
All in all no great complaints.
