Cathedral

A rather more appealing and unspoilt side of Santa Cruz can be found around the cathedral, Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Conception. The streets and squares around the church are quiet and peaceful and are the home to some nice cafes and bars that come alive late in the evening. The church has a simple beauty about it, helped I think by the white rendering whereas a lot of other Tenerife churches are left in their natural black/grey stone colour that makes them look quite drab.
The church contains a relic of the Santa Cruz de la conquista (the holy cross of the conquest) after which the city was named.

Canarian Parliament

The Canarian Parliament building is in two parts, standing side by side. One is a towering monstrosity, a plain square block covered in corroded copper that gives it a green hue. Right next to that is the classical-style building seen here, the original seat of the Parliament before it was necessary to enlarge it.

Tenerife for a cheap week in the sun

"Cheap week in the sun"

We went with the guys from our local bar (22 of us) for 2 years running here, 1997 and 1998.

Was a cheap place to get a tan and laze the days away drinking, eating and dancing the nights away

"Los Cristianos hotel"

We had a hotel on the top floor of two twin hotels in Los Cristianos, Im sure the hotel was called Tores de bull. (they are 2 massive yellow hotels right near the beach)

Really cheap accom, about 60 pounds per person to stay for the week and funny enough still the best hotel ive ever stayed in to date from all my holidays Ive had

"Nightlife"

For Quiet bars stick to Los Cristianos but for the lively clubs head down to Los Americas to a strip of bars called 'Veronicas Strip' About 20 bars and clubs on a road where you can dance the night away

Beware, nowadays the 2 good clubs when I went called Busbys and Bobbys are overflowed with Drug Pushers and Morrocans that appear shifty.

"Best Zoo in Europe"

This is a Vulture that they have in the open so that you can see him closeby.

"Fish Eagle"

A fish eagle in the open, they are not afraid to the people that come so close.

This is at the bird Show, they teaches the cranes to jump on his shoulder before he can get something to eat.
The guy puts corn into the people's hands & then the crane walk from person to person to collect his corn :o)

They let the birds go free & hold meat in their hand with a glove & call the Fish Eagle, after the Fish Eagle landed he first have to do a "Fish Eagle Call" before he gets his meat.

This is a photo where the Fish Eagle is busy landing.

"King Fisher (Bird Show 14:00)"

They through small peaces of fish in a pool in the center of the arena & call the King Fisher to fly over the people and gets his fish. After he picked it up he sits between the people and eat his fish.

They uses different birds in the show, here is an owl that landed on the guys arm to get a piece of meat.

This Parrot is busy to push a Toy Truck on the table.
