More about Mediterranean Palace Hotel

Christmas at the Mediterranean Palace

by A TripAdvisor Member

We had booked this hotel at the last minuted due to our Carribean holiday being cancelled. So with trepidition we went to Tenerife at the Med Palace. We had a fabulous time arriving on Xmas Day. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and were very nice to our 10 year old as we were worried it did not seem a child friendly hotel in the brochure.

We went DBB but if we went again would go B&B to have more time to eat out within in the resort which is very nice especially if you like shopping!

We had booked a suite which was overlooking the pool. Definitely would not want a mountain view as this is not a good view. The suite was two rooms with a dividing door and looks exactly as the photos posed on the thomas cook site.

There are some suites with splash pools which would be even better as they overlook the sea.

New Years Eve celebration - the meal was excellent considering they were catering for 1,500 guests from all the 5 hotels.

Overall loved the hotel however if returning would probably choose the Cleopatra Palace.

Fantastic hotel!

I stayed here in September with my husband and was very impressed with this resort. I say resort because the Mediterranean Palace is one of 5 hotels that make up the Mare Nostrum resort. Guests from all except one of the hotels (the Marco Antonio I think) can share the facilities of the others which is great because all the pools and restaurants are lovely!

The best thing about this resort is definitely the location though - right on the border of Las Americas and Los Cristianos, it has the best of both worlds. Plenty going on in nearby Las Americas (it's right opposite one of the best shopping centres in my opinion) yet only a short stroll away from the peaceful and cosmopolitan Los Cristianos. It's lovely to walk along the seafront from the hotel to Los Cristianos and stop at one of the many bars on the way to take in the views and relax with a drink.

The rooms, although still not luxurious, were definately of a higher standard than others we have stayed in. From our balcony we had a wonderful view of the sea in one direction and of the fountains at the front of the resort in the other. We could also see the suites on the top floor of the other hotels from our room and they looked amazing - jacuzzi on the balcony (which looked huge) and beautiful views. If your budget can stretch to it get one of those!

We also went to the show that's on in the big Pyramid in the centre / front of the resort and thought it was very good.

We have been to Tenerife many, many times and have stayed in many other hotels and apartments in Las Americas and Los Cristianos and I can safely say that this was the best yet and we will definately stay here again (next time we're going to try Cleopatra).

5 star?????????????

by TripAdvisor Member jubob

We stayed at the med palace twice last year (2005)in june and then in november we had booked to stay in november before staying in june. The hotel is rated as 5 star but we do not agree, the reception areas are bright and nicely furnished but the rooms are certainly not up to 5star rating, they are tired and worn and not furnished to the standard of other 5star hotels that we have stayed in. we were virtually promised an upgrade in november to a suite , we were looking forward to that promise but were let down and were allocated a standard room instead, the resort pool area is fantastic, plenty to do inside the complex, the resturant breakfast selection is also very good, but beware of booking into the resturants on site because they are very expensive. Directly ourside the hotel is swarming with the touts who do not leave you alone we found this very off putting but the hotel management were not interested in our complaints, needless to say we are staying elseware this year and will not be frequenting the med palace on future holidays, if you want to pay 5 star prices but receive 3 star accomodation then maybe its just the place for you

Would go back

by A TripAdvisor Member

Went to Tenerife in Feb 05 and stayed at Med Palace. Our experience of the hotel was that it was very clean. Our room was lovely and we really liked the marble and mirror effects around the hotel. There was plenty of variation of foods for breakfast but for some reason, we felt bloated after only eating small portions (don't know if there was a presence of MSG). Apparently Meat Loaf had hired out the top floor of the hotel 6 months previous so we thought if it was good enough for 'fat kecks' it was good enough for us! It wasn't a five star hotel but we would certainly go back.

Over booked and got notice of this less than 24 hours.will never book this again

by TripAdvisor Member rebpinder

Got a call less than 24 hous before we were due to fly, saying this was overbooked and we would have to re-locate...

The hotel claimed they had double booked due to confrence...these things take months to orginise....I know, as I have done this myself..

So we got re-located and took the opportunity to visit the med palace to see what we were missing.... Tatty from the out side but very nice inside.. Extreamley bussy by the pool, over crowded and noisy...

Pleased we got moved as it work out much more tranquil in the end at the Arona Gran Hotel in Los Christionas

Nice Hotel!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from Tenerife and had a lovely time there. We stayed at the Med. Palace which was lovely. The hotel room itself is more like a four star hotel room (size wise) however when you account the resort as a whole you can certsainly accept its five star accreditation. The pool is amazing I have never seen one as big as that, but the area is always busy. We always used the pool for the other hotels which was much quieter and equally beautiful.

The location of the hotel is fantastic - if you walk by the pool onto the back of the hotel a gate takes you out onto the beach - it is no more that two minutes from your room to the beach. From the front of the hotel if you cross the road straight ahead of you is the Safari shopping centre which is lovely. On the right is Vistas beach (5min. walk) which is slightly bigger and well worth visiting has lovely places to eat and drink along side it. Left takes you to supermarkets which is a lovely place to visit.

The evening entertainment was excellent often people walking by the beach would try to look in. It really is a nice place to stay.

I miss it, want to go back!

Not quite 5* but still a great holiday!

by TripAdvisor Member Spencer90

I have just come back from a 10 day stay in this hotel and had a great time. Its still advertised as a 5* and in many respects thats correct, however if i had to be picky i would say the actual room accomodation was more 4* as the hotel is a few years old now. Overall the complex is very clean and impressive to look at. I went with my parents who have been back 3 times now!
From the point of view of a mother with a 3 year old son -
Negative points would be the repair and building work which was going on during our stay, resulting in the large shallow pool out of action for a few days. Not the end of the world though as the massive main pool was more than ample and had a gentle gradient around one section, ideal for my little one.
The crazy golf and playpark were not available during the entire stay, but hopefully these are being updated to a superior level. (huge crazy golf minutes away). The kids club starts from 4 years so my little boy just missed out.
Drinks are expensive and the entertainment occassionally dubious! (same everywhere!) so we often went out after our meal in the evening.
Plus points- no mad rush for sun loungers and plenty out there with a parasol equivalent to every 2 loungers.
Friendly and corteuous staff and immacualately cleaned rooms.
Brilliant position almost on the beach with shops, bars and restaraunts close by.
Wide choice of food, (but sometimes struggling for a picky 3 year old) and very quick service.
There are 5* hotels that have been built in this area recently, which may be slightly more impressive accomodation wise, but if you are looking for a quality hotel which still manages to remain friendly and has atmosphere, then you will probably enjoy your stay here.
The hotel does have facilities for children but they are limited and I would not say the family sector is in the majority. Not a problem for me as my son would live in the pool all day if he could! and it means you can still have a relaxing environment. In the winter there are less families and more couples.
TIP- I booked my flights and accomadation seperately and paid probably half the brochure price (my son went for free in the hotel - a big bonus). The lady next to me paid much more and so was understandingly cross with her more 4* ish room.
But dont let that put you off. Its a great base, a lovely hotel and i would definately return again.

Definitely Not 5 Star

by TripAdvisor Member Jolley Family

Looking forward to our 1st stay in a 5 star hotel we found the holiday disappointing. We have stayed in 3 and 4 star and had much nicer rooms and a greater variety of meals. The hotel itself on the outside is a garish and comical explosion of patterns which look very outdated. Lots of work going on throughout the fortnight at the front of the hotel. This made it very difficult to relax with the sound of drilling from 8:00 onwards only stoppping for the workmens siesta before resuming again late afternoon. Lots of rennovations and sealed off areas in the pool area. None of the impressive fountains were working whilst we stayed there. Please check the electric sockets. As I plugged in a hairdryer underneath the dressing table, 1 socket was not working so I plugged into the remaining socket ......which was LIVE! A previous occupant had left a metal screw sticking out of the socket. I reported this to reception who assured me someone would come immediately. After 3 more telephone calls and over 24 hours later someone came and taped up 1 socket and repaired the other socket. As 3 full paying adults we assumed a suite would contain beds to sleep 3 adults plus bedding, towels, robes glasses etc for 3 adults and somewhere to sit. WRONG. A suite for 3 adults contains a bed for 2 adults and a sofa bed which the maid made up each day. The suite was booked for 3 full paying adults but was only ready for 2 adults. Phone calls to reception remedied this very quickly (Pity the electrical man wasn't as efficient as the house maids!) A word of warning regarding size of rooms. A suite is 1 room divided into 2, by heavy ill fitting wooden sliding doors which are very noisy when opening and closing. If you want to sleep in a little later and someone in a floor above you opens their sliding doors you will be woken up!!!! Air conditioning is only in the room with the sofa bed, so if you are sleeping in the other bed, once the sliding doors are closed prepare to be hot!
Food in the main restaurant was repetitive and with lots of fish dishes. Beware that supplements usually have to be paid to eat in the many other restaurants on site but in the busy months of July/August the management often allow you to eat in a couple of the other restaurants eg Italian at no supplement. Check before you go!!!!
On the plus side!!!
Sheets changed every day and the rooms and the hotel was spotless. The reception staff were very pleasant, helpful and efficient, as were the tourist information staff. The a la carte at St George is definitly worth paying the extra supplement for if you want an extra special romantic meal. The foyer is very impressive as are the futuristic looking lifts. The pool is huge and inviting. The entertainment in the evening is quite good as well. Lots of good bars in the area which close at midnight. Beautiful clean beaches very close by, great fun to be had diving through huge waves at particular times of the day. We would consider going again but this time we would not be expecting 5 star. The whole Mare Nostrum Complex could possibly be considered 4/5 star but in reality the Meditteranean Palace hotel on its own attributes is really a 3/4 star.

Superb location

by TripAdvisor Member JanStHelens

I agree with other comments re the Hotel not being a 5 star standard. We have stayed at this hotel on one other occassion but now think that the hotel is ready for refurbishment.
The location is ideal for walking to Los Cristianos and also heading towards the Torviscas area - Many good bars and reasonably priced restaurants.
Be warned the management are very petty re the use of the minibar to chill your own drinks which is appalling for a supposedly 5 star property and on which I passed on comment upon.
If you dare to put water into chill be prepared for a warning letter being attached to your mini bar after you have received your daily maid service.
