More about Tenerife Golf Hotel
Not impressed at all!
My husband and I have just returned from the Vincci Tenerife Goalf Hotel where we did not have a particularly pleasant stay. We had decided for a last minute holiday in the sunshine and we booked, the day before our departure, a Junior Suite at the Vincci Tenerife Golf Hotel. The day of our arrival at the reception desk we were told they did not have our reservation however they could accommodate us in a non smoker Junior Suite as initially requested. The suite was bright, airy, with a modern design however you could smell that someone had been smoking heavily in the room and the sofa and arm chairs smelled terribly too. The smell was so strong that we needed to keep the windows open during the day and the night.. The hygiene in the rooms was very poor with lime scale everywhere in the bathroom.
The quality of the food was also rather disappointing; we were not expecting Michelin Star food but it’s quality was very poor by any standard and especially not acceptable in a 4 stars hotel. The only positive note of our food experience at the Vincci Hotel is the friendliness of the restaurant staff.
The swimming pool is small and its water terribly cold. However, the entertainment is even worst; the maximum aspiration for a guest at Vincci Hotel is to play Tombola in the evening at the hotel disco.
Last but not least, the reception staff is not very friendly or helpful. We asked once information on how to use the internet connection on our room and another time if there was a cigar shop in the nearby and what we were told was that they would have replied to us the day after.
I do not think that the service quality or the hotel facilities correspond to a 4 stars hotel and therefore I would not recommend this hotel to those looking for a certain standard of comfort.
Stay at Vincci Tenerife from 2nd of Oct to 12th for 11 nights.Had a great stay.Like most people looked at the reviews before going most are great others are so so.The hotel is fab for a relaxing type holiday which is just what we were looking for.The seaviews are amazing from your room and the pool side. The rooms are great we booked a superior double. It does get busier at the weekend with Spanish people. We went halfboard and were very happy with that their is lots to choose from, something for everyone.Would definitely go again.
Would definately go back!
I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in september with my boyfriend. We were really impressed with the hotel appearance and the staff were really friendly. Our room was really nice, and had a lovely veiw over the atlantic ocean. The food was good, the breakfast and evening buffets had everything you could have needed and we felt we got value for money! The hotel bars were abit of a let down as they were so quiet though.
The area is quiet around the hotel but there are a handful of restaurants and bars around, and a netto shop for essentials and snacks. We went to Las Americas and to the water park, which cost 20 euros each way for the taxi. I thought this was worth paying as it was nice to stay in such a relaxing area, i don't think i would have liked Las Americas as much.
Overall, this was a really nice hotel for a realxing holiday, ideal for couples.
Crashing Waves - Perfect Relaxation
I booked this hotel based on other reviews. We loved it for the following reasons:
- Great decor to high standard
- Can hear sea from room
- Great Value/ Quality Ratio (£450 for 2 for 9 nights HB)
- Personnel very efficient and friendly when they were there
- Food was good (nothing wrong with it at all), Spanish style with plenty of fish, rabbitt, and plenty of paella!
- Wine list reasonable with some good wines on it, the cheapest being 9€ for a Berberana Reserve
We didn't like the following things:
- Pool too cold to swim in (they said it was heated but clearly wasn't and as there was no beach I feel this is a real miss)
- The bar was never manned so you could really wait to get a drink
- No atmosphere due to no bar
- The area next to the hotel was like something out of Eldorado, very tacky, no nice places to go for a drink, unless you want to feel like you are in Blackpool
- Understaffed - probably why the bars were never manned
All this said we did enjoy it as we had a car and could visit which we did every afternoon, but I would recommend having a car as you could be stuck otherwise.
The hotel is very elegant for a four star. We were out of season in a quiet week and I would say it was only 30% full. The bar area and the disco were dead if that is what you are looking for. The pool area is excellent. There have been comments about the pool being too cold to swim in but it is certainly refreshing and not unpleasant. The sea views are excellent. We had a junior suite at a good rate and it was very large and excellent, the balcony was a huge double and the sea views incredibly good. The staff were excellent and attentive. We felt that the food was very disappointing and mealtimes were not something to look forward to; adequate and fairly ordinary. We would probably stay on a bed and breakfast basis if we were to go again. There are some excellent restaurants in the back street of the San Blas commercial centre two minutes away, particularly Gullivers and the Tapas bar. The restaurants/bars in the main squares in the Commercial centre are not so attractive. The hotel is only 15 minutes away by car from the Playa del Duque area which is very swish and worth a visit. The nearby fishing town of Los Abrigos has some excellent fish restaurants and a nice harbour although generally the place is not attractive. There is a good open air bar right on the sea front along the walkway at the El Nautico Suites. This is in our opinion better during the day than the bars in the Commercial centre. There is a new 5 star hotel being constructed along the beach together with some very attractive villas in an adjoining holiday village. Scheduled for completion June 2008.The construction works do not really effect the hotel guests. When the development is finished it can only improve the area and the facilities in general. There are also future plans to turn the natural rock beach right next to the hotel into a sandy beach and to improve the promenade to Los Abrigos. This will be a considerable benefit to the hotel guests. We would certainly stay at the hotel again for a relaxing holiday.
We had a lovely relaxing week in early November-half board, junior suite. The hotel is very stylish and comtempary -the staff are very attentive. The room was lovely with a balcony overlooking the sea - sound of the waves is even more relaxing! Twin beds was slightly disappointing when we requested queen. The pool area is great and the waves sound wonderful. The weather was hot and sunny 27 degrees! There is no beach so the plans for the ajoining beach sound good. A car is a must, as there is just a few bars and very "english on holiday" restaurants! can see the blackpool similarity!! Go to the national park and on the cable car up the volcanoe - nice to see some real beauty! the food is good - lots of seafood and homecooked food! loads of salads and yummy deserts!
The hotel is perfect for a weeks relaxation and would definately go back!
not a four star, pretty awful
I booked this hotel due to the good reviews on trip advisor, however.
Area is so boring, nothing to do and its a very English (older) ex pat community living there that obviously play golf all day and eat in their apartments.
Lots of building going on and beach is awful. The area is high so quite cold and windy for winter break. Food was horrendous, we booked half board and it was the most basic buffet I ever experienced, (frozen chips, chicken nuggets and beans). Some nice salads though...we had it one night and never went back. When your on holiday going out to dinner should be an occasion and it took us only 30 mins to get down to the restaurant, have dinner and be back in our rooms bored, hardly a great night out.
There is no atmosphere, no entertainment and the bar (lobby) is unmanned so chances of getting a drink are limited. As for the "disco" its a small (empty) room which the staff have drinks in and music till about 11pm.
Pool is tiny, freezing and has limited sunbeds which get taken before breakfast.
Beds are way to hard and uncomfortable, bathrooms are nice though.
Rooms are dusty and stuffy.
balconies are very basic.
Staff unhelpful (pool guys are nice).
Spa is a joke, one of the "baths" is just that a bath with a sunken park bench in it, for the price its a disgrace.
Interior decoration looks nice but after a while it feels so cold and clinical.
Walls are like paper, I could hear everything, next door and upstairs..Very annoying when people are getting up at 5am for a flight and your lying in bed trying to sleep..
I actually felt like I was in hospital for 3 days. Cold, clinical, uncomfortable, bad food and staff have no time for you....We did have the most beautiful view of the sea from our balcony but its a more basic hotel than it would lead you to believe from the photos...
On the plus side, the hotel is so cheap and would be great if you were playing golf all day as its so close to the courses. You dont care about food/ or find a nice restaurant in the area (we didnt).
So if its base your after this is it as it did have the feeling of a travellers inn about it.
When we visted a different area," Playa de Americas", we could not believe the different weather (warm) and the amount of things to do, so we checked out of the hotel booked into a different place and were much much happier. We experienced a proper buffet....and finally had a holiday...
Fantastic stay at the Vincci Golf
We have just returned from a week stay at the Vincci Golf and had a great time. We booked a family room which was stylishly decorated and very spacious. Our suite had 2 separate bedrooms, living area and large bathroom. There was also a balcony which could be accessed from the main bedroom and living area.
We found the beds very comfortable, they were firm so it you like a softer mattress you may be disappointed. We also had neighbours both sides of our suite for the whole stay and did not hear them at all. The rooms seemed to be very well sound proofed. The only noise we could hear was the crashing waves. The sea view was amazing, we were on the 9th floor and the view was to die for.
The pool area had great views of the sea and very comfortable sun loungers. The weather was lovely for our stay and although it is quite windy at this location we enjoyed sunbathing and found that there was ample sun loungers available. The upper solarium bar area with the double sun loungers (they were just like double beds) was particularly enjoyable.
We were not expecting too much from the food going by previous reviews. However we were pleasantly surprised. The food was well prepared and there was a different selection every night for dinner. The buffet did seem to consist of a lot of fish which was great for us. Typically the dinner buffet included 2 hot fish dishes, 2 meat or chicken dishes and a different Paella every evening. The choice of fresh salads were excellent and there was always lovely fresh bread with cheese and pate. There was also a fresh soup and a pasta and sauce option (great for the kids). Puddings were also very nice. The only thing that I was disappointed by was that none of the food was labelled, it would have been nice to know what the dish was.
The wine and beverage list was well priced for a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast was equally enjoyable. Food was fresh and nicely prepared with a lovely choice of cold meats, cheese and bread as well as the traditional full cooked breakfast. I personally enjoyed the spanish sausages and tortilla and also the churros were very good. Coffee was nice too and it was lovely being able to sit outside on the terrace.
I found the staff pleasant although they could not always help. I did have a problem with their internet services but this system was run by an outside company. They tried to help as much as they could and even said that I could use their own system (at quiet times) to check my emails to help.
The restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly especially as we have two young children and also the entertainment staff were friendly although they did not have much to do. Our daughter did try the mini club one day, she was the only child and thoroughly enjoyed herself painting and making filled bottles of sand.
If you are looking for a lively hotel this is not for you. It is very quiet which was perfect for us. Also the outside area of Golf del Sur is as another reviewer said very "El Dorado". It is quite tacky, although not unattractive. However the Netto supermarket was great to have on your doorstep and there were also banks, internet cafes and gift shops.
I would recommend hiring a car, we used Autoreisen and got an excellent rate (less than €120 for a Seat Cordoba for the whole week) and the rate includes free child seats.
All in all we had an excellent stay and this hotel completely fulfilled our needs. If you are looking for a lively holiday then this is definately not for you. However if you are looking for a relaxing hotel or a great base then we think that this hotel is perfect.
Nice hotel if you want to relax, service a liitle slow
Myself and my sister stayed here for New Years, we actually arrive at 8pm on New Years eve, to find out that we were booked in for a champagne reception and Gala dinner, which was included in the price I paid without realising, so that was a nice surprise!
The hotel decor and rooms are very Malmaison style, our bedroom was a really good size but no balcony, just a large window overlooking the pool and sea. I think that all the rooms at this hotel have sea views but if I went again I would request a room with a balcony.
I was only offered a HB rate, as it was New Year. The restaurant is buffet style, we only made breakfast a couple of times but there was a really good selection, although it was a bit manic, as there didn't seem to be enough serving staff. We ate in the restaurant a few evenings and the service was much better and again there was a good selection and for a buffet the food wasn't bad but not fantastic. As we hardly made breakfast we had lunch most days, there is a limted selection but nice. The service can be slow, so the trick is to order at the bar and ask them to let you know when it is ready, so you don't miss any sunshines hours, as you can't eat around the pool.
The pool area is really nice and over looks the sea, when it's busy there were a lot of towels on sun beds at 8am in the morning, to be honest we weren't that bothered and there were plenty of beds on the upper level away from the pool, which suited us as there was more space and really comfy double beds to sunbath on, but you really did have to get up early to get one of those, we managed twice in a week!
Unless you play golf there isn't anything to do on the resort. By the hotel there is a square full of English bars and restaurants and not at a very high standard, we went for a drink and lasted 20 minutes! However there is a small supermarket there, to get water and snacks etc. There is also another line of bars and restaurants that runs next to the square which are a better quality but still very English - Taboo is suppose to be the best bar on the resort!! For an English theme bar it wasn't too bar, we ended up there New Years Eve and we did have a good time.
There is a small fishing village Los Abrigos which you can walk to during the day it's too dark to walk at night, where there are some lovely fish restaurants around the port and further on Le Medona which also has a really nice little beach. Playa Las Americas is about 15 minutes away by car and there are plenty of taxis outside the hotel.
All in all we had a great holiday, I really liked the hotel, yes the service was a bit slow and the staff look a bit grumpy at first but give them a chance, they were all really helpful and they work really long hours! A few words of Spanish goes a long way!
If I wanted a week of sun & relaxation (the Spa is lovely) or if I wanted a base and hire a car to do some exploring I would stay at the hotel again.
If you are looking for a resort where there are plenty of things to do in walking distance then this isn't the place for you.
I hope this helps!
Only OK at best!
Just back from a stay at this hotel. Spent 4 nights there in total and was an ok experience. Having stayed in Los Cristianos/Las Americas for 3 nights prior to our stay here it was a little quiet to say the least. Weather not as good either, wind so bad that the sun loungers were blowing around the swimming pool deck even with the screens around the pool in place.
Found the decor, pool areas, etc. to be nice and the junior suite we stayed in was lovely. Had some problems with noise though from the corridor and on numerous occassions thought the sliding door to the balcony was going to shatter due to the strong sea breeze. Crashing of waves below balcony and sea view was stunning.
The problems we had with the hotel were the staffing and cost of services. We tried on Monday night to purchase a drink at the lobby bar, we failed. Tuesday night was a little better we managed to get a drink at the lobby bar but had to follow the staff to the discotheque in order to get another drink after that staff were no where to be seen.
Furthermore the cost of services at this hotel were both staggering and appauling. €12.00 to watch a movie and €4.80 to listen to an album on the entertainment system of €19.50 for the use of all services including internet for 24 hours. €5 to use the Internet at the Internet Corner for 20 minutes.
But worst of all as the weather was not the best and the pool was cold we decided to use the indoor pool at the spa. On our 4th attempt we actually met somebody at the Spa reception who informed us that the cost of using the pool was €20 per person while the sauna or steam room were €25 for half an hour we declined the offer.
This hotel in our from our experience is more concerned with profits than making peoples holidays!
