goood family holiday

by A TripAdvisor Member

The hotel is in a very good position near Costa Teguise. The hotel is impressive on first impression with lovely pools and resturant. Our room was not as good as we had expected, the carpet was stained and went unhoovered and the room could of done with updating. Also the 3rd bed was the sofa, not a sofa bed, which was disappointing, I would advise anyone staying here to book the suites with the extra bedroom, which would be worth the extra cost. The food was very good, good selection but this selection was not very often varied which was disappointing but the service was excellent. My children loved the pools and evening entertainment which was very good and varied. We went half board and the pool bar served good food during the day although the service was often slow!! We also felt that the hotel favoured the spanish guests, as we were sometimes ignored or had to wait a long time due to the spanish being attended to first eg: reception. This we felt slighty spoilt our hoilday. Lanzarote is a lovely island, we loved the island tours and the aqua park was great for the kids. We would love to go back and we would possibly stay at the Barcelo again.

just back

by TripAdvisor Member kathandgordon

we have just returned from a week at the barcello. All in all it was quite pleasant.
Starting at reception: good service , very helpful and polite

dining : Having read some negative things on this review , we went to meals with an open mind. the food was of a good quality. There was NOT a taste of fish on everything ,as a previous writer had stated, only on the numerous fish dishes. generally accepable. Strange concoctions at breakfast though, still I have now got a taste for roasted peppers with my breakfast. (it's european so try to accept it will not be exactly like british food, anyway, isn't the change what we go abroad for?)

Bars were well stocked and reasonably priced.(I'm still trying to get my head round the fact that the canarries are tax free yet the drink prices are the same as main land Spain where we are taxed. Are we therefore being ripped off, I think so. But this is a complaint about the Islands in general, not the hotel). Many people were on an all inclusive holiday and although the drinks were available all day minor complaints about the quality of the wine, local drinks etc. However, as we were on half board we had no such complaints .We paid for drinks and got good measures of (non local) produce. staff were excellent. entertainment was better than a lot of hotels we've stayed at , although we felt it was directed more at the spanish guests after the shows had finished.anyway, after the entertainment ended so did the free drinks for the AIs so the place usually emptied

Rooms : this was the only real fly in the ointment. the hotel is quite old and the accomodation is quite worn out and aged. cracked floor tiles outside rooms(and generally worn out) the tiles around the bath/ shower were in need of re- grouting and the sealing between the bath/tiles needed stripped and renewed. As far as cockroaches etc. we found one large one of the flying variety which obviously got in under the door but, hey , it's the tropics and only a few miles from Africa so what would you expect

we hired a car for 2 days at a reasonable rate, from the rental lady in the foyer. we spent a couple of hours in the town looking at rental prices, and when the insurance etc was taken into consideration it was just as well to get the car from the hotel complex

I agree with a lot of the previous reviewers, that the hotel does not live up to four star standards being let down by the tired appearance only. It definitly in my opinion deserve three and a half stars

generally a holiday is what you make it. If you want british food then you should go to Blackpool. we had a reasonably relaxing time We have decided though that we would not return to the Barcello

Not the best Hotel, But not the worst.

Half term at the Barcelo.
Ok time, but please note the following:-
All Inclusive means that your hotel is generally out of town, If you like strolling around the shops and other bars in the evening forget this hotel you are a 45 min walk from the town. It has a bus that stops at 5.30 so taxi's back are a must.

We went half board and had the option of upgrading to all inclusive. Ok if you want to start at 11 am and drink your €18 per day then good luck, but as a family with 2 young children that isn’t for us, however we felt that we would not make good use of the ALL Inc cost.
What I will say is that there are several restrictions i.e., NO All INC between 1pm and 3pm. Selection of drinks good but also restricted. No All Inc after 11 pm even though the entertainment finished at 1 am.

What frustrated us most about this Hotel was that the Dining Room had no view as it is underground, and the useful use of water fountains had no real impression on me.

If you wanted an after dinner coffee, you had to have that in a lounge off the reception area (still underground). But if you wanted a coffee underground in the afternoon say, you had to go to the Snack Bar by the pools in order to get your drink.
If you wanted a coffee in one of the entertainment bars then you would have to go down to the bar that served it. Very very frustrating.

Other gripes:

The pools numerous were freezing cold.

The staff thought everyone was ALL Inc and treated you as wasteful.

The food was OK, not brilliant but plentiful, a tip is to go early to avoid queuing.

Don’t pay Half board for kids as there isn't a thing for them at dinner, and if you want the usual Chicken Nugget’s and Chips you HAVE to pay extra for it ALL INC or NOT.
My 4 and 7 year olds don’t eat Veal etc, Stuff Peppers with a varity of fillings, seafood salads etc. So Half Board is a waste on money.

Some ++'s

Kids Club - Brilliant, safe and superbly run.

Choice of pools - the one near the football courts is best, quiet, safe and no one uses it.

10 min transfer time from the airport, first to be dropped off and last to be collected.

Entertainment staff brilliant with during the day activities and evening entertainment, but hired entertainment poor but great fun at just how poor it was.

If you want an alternative, across the road is the Oasis Continental, we went in there trying to find our rep (who indecently was crap) however, the hotel is amazing still only 4*, but nice views at dinner, and yes you can have a drink where you wanted to.

Great Christmas break

The hotel was four star, the staff were at least five star, every member of staff we met were helpful freindly, and seemed to enjoy what they did. The food excellent. we would just like to thank everyone for a great chrismas break.

No worries

by TripAdvisor Member atina

Just returned from the Barcelo at Costa Teguise. Stayed over christmas week. Hotel and services excellent, a bit worried after reading some reviews, however no worries everything fine. Room clean, spacious, excellent view overlooking sea and hotel opposite.
Food very good, animation team very good and supporting daily games and events, Ollie did look good in a fairies costume!!!!, made up for the little cheats on 'dartos'. Overall better than we expected, shame about the weather apparently first time in ten years rain at christmas.
