Overall the complex was good. The apartments however were not nearly worth the five stars advertised. They are badly in need of updating and look very tatty and worn. Cleaning was excellent as was the restaurant on site.

loved every minute

my mam booked this holiday last minute for herself, me and my brother. we stayed in the Key Largo villa and were totaly satisfied with the quality of the villa. the apartment was very clean as well as the rest of the resort. the maid servise was excellent. the entertainment was very good as it catered for everyone of all ages. the mai tai pool was heated despited what other people have wrote!! on site proces were reasonable and the staff there were great. all facilities offered were brillient. all in all the sands beach villas resort is great and we will definately be returning in the near future.

every one has their own opinion, some good , some bad, here's mine

just haven returned from sands beach villas , came bcak on the 1st of august. we had read all these reviews before arriving there so we expected the worse. but suprisingly, we were very happy when we arrived. the facilities were great (7 swimming pools, lift, jim etc) but the villas bring down the so called 5*resort. they are clean and tidy(ignore the ppl who say they r dirty) it's mainly wear and tear. the living room is clean , jst needs modernising. the kitchen is samll but clean and looks reasonably new. the bedroom is clean once again but needs updating. the bathroom , now , really needs refurbishing. its not dirty though, jst the bath in my appartment had not been changed 4 10 yrs or more so had scratches on it which could be mistaken 4 dirt. the cockroaches are not a problem.lanzarote is knon 4 then in all houses and hotels etc. it's like ants in england. i only saw 1 which came from outside, its not sands beach villas fault. clean towels, loo roll, cleaners once every 2 days(could have come more often). airconditioning- we rented fans which helped. it wasnt even that hot because we were so used to the heat. we wnt to see a new refurbished appartment (no 18 palmaries) which looked 10 times better. the kitchen had granet and white tiles, air conditioning, white tiles in the bathroom, new bath etc. so i think they r beggining to re-do all the villas, but this will take time and money. the restuarant (la hacienda) was lovely , although we only ate there once. the receptionists were lovely (the english ones). overall we had a lovely holiday. the swimming pools r clean and nice. ppl r saying they r cold, which they r. but lanzaroye is boiling so once u get in the cold pool it is so refrshing and cools u right down. they is also a private beachwhich is perfect 4 the children because it is not too big so they can swim in there lilos and not drift away.there is also tennis and table tennis(games room)there were a few musicals on , but i normally missed them because i went out 2 restuarants at night and got back at 11 ish so missed half the shows. but people looking on this website 4 a real oppinion -here is one.pleASE dont get put off by others , but don't expect true true luxary. just expect a relaxing, family holiday.

sands beach great family holiday

We stayed at the Sands Beach Resort 8th July to 22nd July 2004.
We had read trip advisor before we went and there were very few good reports.
But a couple we read seemed better balanced and we found a very good resort guide and said well we will make the best of it.
We flew from Edinburgh and were delayed arrived at the resort 23:00 hrs but check in was easy and our bags were taken to our 1 bedroom deluxe villa.
There were four of us two adults and 2 teenagers we asked for a welcome pack and it was there milk , cereal, tea, coffe , biscuit and fruit ,bread etc.

We had a good villa it was clean even though it was very windy and a lot of sand had been blown about outside.

Made the pools look dirty but in a couple of hours were cleaned by the pool staff.

We enjoyed the do as you like, go where you want style of the place.

They put on entertainment and it is aimed at the brits abroad and if thats what you want its there we used the bar a couple of times for a night cap.
But there is so much to do around the area great places to eat and drink we had some crackers during the day and at night.

We had breakfast a couple of times at the resort and it was great .

Three meals at there restaurant and it was great and about the same price as around the area.

Once we had the old pizza in the villa and chilled out at was very good a lovely evening.

It was our first trip to Lanzarote and we would go back and we would have no problems staying at the sands Beach Resort it is not a new resort but it is well kept and they seem to be making improvements villa by villa we enjoyed the style of the villa and were very comfortable in it and found the staff very helpful.

It wants to be five star but its not there as it has some very stiff competion just next door but for the price it was good value dont be put off' the Brits love to complain and it seems to make some of them very happy.
But the truth is Hotels in the U.K are not at this standard for the price far from it and any that are you could only get a long week-end for the money.

The front entrance is impressive, cool and has a grand feeling you walk through a large lounge with sattees all around and marbel the washrooms are marble and of a very high standard.
There is a well stocked supermarket in this area.
a fitness gym but you have to pay daily for it.

So pull on the trainer and shorts and head for a run and save the money for a few beers at night.

Must of the villa area are two storey white, spanish tiled walkways in teracota, pool areas have astra turf round them and there are flower everywhere and that cant be easy on a volcanic island.

Go there and just mellow out 'you will enjoy your stay.

read before you book

Having recently returned from the so called 5* complex of the Sands beach plaza villas, there are one or two(probably more) things you must know before booking your holiday there.
If you like your 5* accomodation, basic, without air conditioning(fans are an extra cost) with a shortage of towels and toilet roll, a remote control t.v with the remote control available at an extra cost , then this is the place for you.
If you like your 5* complex to have a bar that requires you to queue to get a drink on a tiled floor that has seen better days, and an underground social club style entertainment room without windows or air conditioning, then you must book today!
But before all this splendour can await you remember to wait in reception for over an hour before the unhelpful receptionist can tell you your room is not ready as it is still being cleaned(we are talking 6pm here when all occupants are asked to vacate their rooms at 10am).
So taking all this into account with the only outside bar on the complex closing at 7pm, a shower that broke, sunbeds that collapsed, and a general shoddiness and lack of maintenance(pool cleaners excused)throughout, we cannot underestimate our total non-reccomendation to spend any time whatsoever at this 3* (at best) hotel.
"one of the worlds leading hotels" ?????????

really disappointed

Spent 2 weeks at this resort in June, and have to say it is definitely not a 5 star resort. The reception staff are rude and unhelpful, the beach villas are dated and could do with remodernising, the rooms are not cleaned to standard, loo rolls are hardly ever replaced (we had to purchase our own on several occasions) sunbeds are broken and dirty - basically the whole holiday was a bit of a let down we were expecting real luxury (and had paid enough to expect it) but what we got was a bog standard 3 star resort.

Butlins mentality

by A TripAdvisor Member

Have just returned from 2 weeks at this villa resort. It is definitely not a 5 star resort but more a minus 3 star. It is well located but lacks the quality of a 5 star. Villas have no air con making for very stuffy hot rooms, there is no maid service on a thurs ( change over day) or Sunday ( day off for maids) and quality of cleaning is poor. Plenty of evening entertainment if you like the butlins mentality, there is also non stop similar entertainment around the pool areas all day!!!. General knowledge tests, card bingo etc. On site restaurant the Hacienda is of poor quality and service and you can wait for ever for takeaway service. Reception staff are indifferent to issues. If you are single or a no children couple forget it, this place is a childrens paradise but you stand no chance of any peace and quiet there are no bars to have a quite drink or reataurants to have a romantic meal you definitely need to go off site in the evening. You also have to like wildlife as the local cockroaches pay frequent visits to your villa. Great place if you have 4 kids a butlins mentality and want to make a lot of noise if not AVOID at all costs

Travelled August 2004 with wife and three children. Two days before departure informed by Sands, via our travel agent, that the three bedroomed villa booked and paid for five months ago was not now available due to flooding, had to take smaller accomodation for which we were recompensed. That's where the good news ends folks. The flooding was an acronym for overbooking and it was common at this resort - I know, I asked other guests.
We've been to many places around the world and by no stretch of the imagination does this complex come close to a deluxe resort. The brochure issued by them in Ireland had us believing it would be an experience of a lifetime...certainly was, and one for which we will need a holiday to recover from. No Air Conditioning but you can rent air fans from them at Euro 16 each per week. No room service but you can order takeaway food from a limited menu up till 9:45 at night, wait an hour for an overworked restaurant staff to get it ready then collect it in all it's finery in tin foil containers to have it romantically in that stuffy cramped living room. You can then chill out in the unheated swimming pool or play Bingo in the Main Bar with the sweat dripping on to your plastic covered scoresheet. Oh, and by the way - I know who "Leading Hotels of the World" are, anyone know who "Great Hotels of the World" are - and who conducts their audits ??

Hats off to the overworked staff who take an awful lot of stick from disgruntled vacationers. Anyway...caveat emptor. Me ? - I'm sending my compaints to the Irish Times Newspaper Travel Editor with a copy of the brochure. Might help the next family looking for that dream holiday.

Try and venture into the Resort!!!

The complex offers very good accommodation and facilities for families with children however the resort of Costa Teguise is only minutes away and has a variety of eating places (Sands is self catering!! and numerous bars offering entertainment that is suitable for all ages - if you look!! - Irish Bar in Pueblo Marinero is very welcoming.I agree the complex can be noisy during the day - but hey don't have kids!! Also where in the brochure does it mention that the accommodation has air conditioning - it doesn't so don't expect it.Overall had a fantastic holiday - accommodation in Plaza Amarilla was clean and tidy - took two teenage girls of 16 & 17 and didn't use the entertainment facilities much - but location was spot on and accommodation was faultless.Remember single storey accommdation might just attract the bugs!!!

Not so bad

by A TripAdvisor Member

I have just returned from a weeks holiday at this resort and read all the bad reviews before my holiday, so I was a little paranoid as what to expect. My honest opinion is that the actual complex is 4 star, as the pools are clean, plenty of sunbeds, towels etc + the entertainment is pretty good, especially if you don't want to miss any british football as they show nearly all the games in the sunset bar. The villas are slightly dissapointing but not nearly as bad as previous reviews, as you have a dishwasher, micro good size fridge freezer. The 1st thing you should do is organise a fan at reception as you will need something to cool down the villa as there is no air con. I would rate the villas at 3 star + and the resort 4 star +, so don't worry it'll be fine, especially if you get the weather we had!!
