Comillas
"Summer choice of kings"
According to the guide at the Palace of Sobrellanos, Comillas was the first town in Spain to have electricity - possibly a direct consequence of being the summer destination for many of the kings. The Marques de Comillas also built the Palacio de Sobrellanos as his summer home - he was a close friend of the king, so much so that he financed the navy so they could go fight against the Cubans during Cuba's war for independence. Today Comillas is still the choice of many Spaniards for a wonderful summer, which makes it difficult to find a place to stay during that season if not planning your booking well in advance.
