The Refugio in Gandara (Boimorto): Peregrino Accommodation in Gandara (Boimorto)

There is now an excellent new Refugio at Boimorto. It is down a short lane on the right just before entering town. Set in an idyllic location next to a small lake. It has Approximately 34 beds, mainly in spacious 8 bedded dorms, a spacious and well equipped kitchen, a large dining area, a comfortable sitting area and excellent toilets and hot showers. There is a telephone number posted in the doorway to ring if the Hospitalario isn’t on hand, he will give you your cello and take your 6e Donitivo – a Truly Excellent New Refugio and highly recommended

The Refugio in Sobardo de los Monjes: Peregrino Accommodation in Sobardo de los Monjes

The monks of San Bernardo run a Refugio in the Monastery at Sobardo de los Monjes – You pay your 6e Donitivo and obtain your cello at the Monastery Gift Shop. There are Dormatories in the monastery quadrangle, when I stayed, only one as open, but if more Peregrino’s arrived there was at least one more dormitory that could have been opened. there is also a large kitchen / dining room with laundry facilities as well as good toilets and very hot showers

The Refugio in Miraz: Peregrino Accommodation in Miraz

The Refugio at Miraz really is Excellent – The only problem being that it is so good, it is very popular, so therefore often full, so try to arrive early to avoid disappointment. It is one of two Refugio’s in Spain that are run by the Confraternity of Saint James and is located on the edge of the small village in a new modern building. It has one large dormitory (Approx 24 beds) a large and very well equipped kitchen / dining room, good toilets and showers and a very nice garden. The 8e Donitivo includes a substantial breakfast that is prepared by the Hospitalario’s and starts around 06.30 and finishes at 08.00
Alternative accommodation is sparse, there is alternative accommodation available about 8k away (off the route) for 35e for a single room including being picked up at Miraz and then dropped off again the next morning, telephone number for this is available at the Miraz Refugio as well as the local bar.

The Refugio in Baamonde: Peregrino Accommodation in Baamonde

The Refugion in Baamonde is excellent, it is located in an old (But well modernised) building on the right hand side in the centre of the village. It really is an above average Refugio, It is run by a young but very efficient Hospitalario who will give you your cello and take your 6e Donitivo and has heating which was good news as we arrived there very wet. Downstairs there are 3 small dormitories with attached toilets and showers, there is also a kitchen and dining area and a very comfortable sitting area. upstairs there is a huge dormitory with more toilets and showers.

As Baamonde is the last starting point on The Camino Norte that qualifies you for a Compostela, this Refugio can get very busy in the height of the season.

The Refugio in Vilalba: Peregrino Accommodation in Vilalba

There is a large modern Refugio as you enter the town, it’s a good kilometre from the centre of town on Avenida do Xeneral Franco, we didn’t opt to stay there, staying in a hotel in the town centre instead.

The Refugio in Mondonedo: Peregrino Accommodation in Mondonedo

We had some difficulty in locating the Refugio in Mondonedo, it is in the upper part of town next to a small church, once located, you then have to locate the local police to pay your 6e for the Refugio and get your cello – Even after getting directions at the Tourist Information Centre, we still struggled to find them until we stumbled upon another Perigrino who was returning and he kindly took us back ;-)
The Refugio is on 3 floors, the upper two both containing a large airy dormitory a well as showers and toilets, the ground floor has a small sitting area as well as a good kitchen / dining room and there is also a small clothes drying are in the cellar

The Refugio in Lourenza: Peregrino accommodation in Lourenza

There is a Refugio mentioned in the CSJ guidebook that is reached from The Pontevella, go down to the end of the street, turn right at the T junction and the Refugio is on your left. Reported as having 20 beds in 3 dormitories, showers and cooking facilities ( we didn’t stay there, opting to push on to Mondonedo)

The Refugio in Gondan: Peregrino accommodation in Gondan

Gondan Refugio – This Refugio now acts as an overspill for the one at Calzada and therefore only opens when the one at Calzada is full – This could be a bit of a nuisance as if this was the case then it’s 2k back uphill to Gondan
The Refugio is located in the centre of the village on the right hand side (Please not, there is no bar in Gondan)

The Refugio in Vilela: Peregrino accommodation in Vilela

There is now a new Refugio at Vilena, it’s on the far side of the village, to get to it you turn left at the bar and go down a minor surfaced road, the Refugio is about 50m on the right. The Refugio is on the first floor, it has approximately 36 beds, it is very spacious and has excellent hot showers and good toilets. There isn’t a kitchen but the bar offers a good 10e menu as well as bocadillo’s in the daytime and evenings and opens around 8am for breakfast. Cello available at the bar where you also pay your 6e Donitivo
