Picos de Europa August
Hi,
I'm planning to visit Picos de Europa at the end of August (24-27).
Considering the time of the year (End of August, midweek) do I need reservation for hotels and/or camping? How far do I need to book ahead?
Anyone got any recommendation for nearby accommodation which is either camping or hotels w/ensuite at a reasonable price?

As that is about the most popular time of the year, I would Book ahead soon.
Cheaper places --Pilona, Plaza in Canis de Onis. Penalba in Covadonga. HS La Serna, HS Rubio, Casa Cayo, Posada de Bistruney, Camping El Molino in Potes. Casa Cipriano, Pension La Perdiz at Sotres.
There are also "Refugios" in the mountains like the Refugio de Aliva above Espinama(24 rooms) which are first come first served (if you call this one in advance they wilkl take you up in a Land Rover. For other Refugios check at the Potes tourist office.

My favourite places to stay in Picos de Europa are Potes (Cantabria), Fuente Dé (Cantabria), Sotres (Asturias) and Covadonga (Asturias). But I wouldn't go to Covadonga in August, because you must use public transport during the Holy week and from 28 July to 3 September.
In Potes/Ojedo there is a cheap hostel called Toscana. Hotel Infantado and Peña Sagra are also reasonably priced. All in all the hotels in Ojedo are cheaper than the ones in Potes.

It is pretty comprehensive with route descriptions, maps, GPS, driving instructions, road maps etc. It covers both the National park of Picos de Europa and the Valley of Liebana (+30 routes). Potes is in the middle of Liebana.
