Hi there,

I am visiting Santander with a group of 4 for a long weekend. We were wondering if there were any good bars or clubs people could recommend to us - after reading some comments about Santander it sounds a bit sleepy with not much this the case?

If anyone has any ideas of places to go/avoid it would be great to hear.....

RE: nightlife?

by chemolari

Man, you will have a blast when you arrive to Santander. As any other city in
Spain, nightlife is not a little thing here. Just go to downtown at night.
People usually move from one spot to another in a strange, although regular pattern. In summer, areas in "Rio de la Pila" or "Calle Vargas", get so crowded that is impossible to drive on them with a car.

Just follow the people and they will take you to the spots.

Travel Tips for Santander

The port

by DanielF

Santander is intimely linked to the sea and the port has been since the very beginning the main reason for its existence. The port still plays a very important role in the life of the city and, although it is not very big, it is picturesque and scenic, because of the beautiful mountains in the background.

Today, most of the port activities have moved outside of the city, to the Port of Raos, but the old Docks of Maliaño still are visited by colourful ships. The older Docks of Molnedo and Puerto Chico have no longer a commercial use and they are occupied by a marina and a waterfront promenade.

Los Reginas boats

by milugares

Cross the bay in the "lanchas".
Los Reginas red boats are not just a tourist atraction, but a usual transport to go to the beaches of El Puntal, Pedreña and Somo.

The also offer a more touristic round trip outside the bay, passing by the Magdalena peninsula, isle of Mouro and along El Sardinero towards the lighthouse, on board of a glass walls catamaran.

Si tienes tiempo y dinero puedes ir a dejarlo en el Casino.
Esá situado en la zona del Sardinero, junto a las playas en un edificio muy bonito de finales del siglo XIX

If you have time and money tou may go to spend it in the Casino
It is located in the Sardinero area, near the beaches in a very nice building of the end of the XIX century

Toros - Bullfight

by elpariente

"I know that this may be a "hot" issue , but my intention is not to enter in discusions about it"
Santander celebrates his Patrons day on July 25th and on this time of the year celebrates the Feria when you may see bullfights during ten days
You may get tickets in advance or you may wait to the last moment , but as in all events as better are the bullfighters as more difficult is to get the tickets
You may get tickets of "shade" (sombra) that are more expensive or in the "sun" (sol) ; in the South may be essential , as the weather is much hotter than here
