Hospedaje Magallanes: Very convenient

Excellent location: Five minutes to the railway and bus stations; three minutes to the Ciy Hall, therefore, the city centre, however, in a very quiet área.

Really nice and helpful staff. On the second floor of a building, very clean and comfotable place.

Single room: 29,00 € (just accommodation), April '13; free wifi.

Rhin Hotel Santander: Do you speak Castellano?

Visiting Santander my wife and I wanted some information about the hotel Silken Rhio - Rhin nicely located at the beach of Sardinero close to the Casino.
In Spanish I said good morning to the receptionist and asked, in Spanish, if he did speak English or French.
With some bluntness he asked me if I did speak Castillan!
I retorted that I spoke Basque, Galician and Valenciana which, of course, I don't speak.
I do speak, rather badly, French, Flemish/Dutch, English, German but very sadly not Castillan.

My wife and I appreciate humour, irony, sarcasm but we feel that if we were living from tourism we would not answer in such a poor commercial way.

Camping Cabo Mayor

This is one of the best campings in the region. Is near the beach and has many features including simming pool.

If you stay here, do not forget to go to the bar next to
the lighthouse. Best views in town.

Pensiones

One of the cheapest ways to go are the so called Pensiones. Google them in Santander and you will find good deals for about 15-20 euros a night. For that price,
you will get a small private room normally in the heart
of the city so you normally stay in a good location.
In summer is typical to find people advertising them near the bus station.

3 bedroom. Central and near the beach.: Chema's apartment

This is my apartment. I rent it per weeks (300 or 400 euros per week. 3 bedrooms). Feel free to contact me for more details. Is close to the beach and walking distance to most of the atractions in the city.

Pensiones and hostales: The "not so expensive" options

Santander has no Youth Hostel.

The cheapest accommodations are probably
"Pensiones" or "Hostales", a list of which you can find in this link (no online booking, though):
http://www.qdq.com/buscar.cfm?pQue=pensiones&pQuien=&pTipo=poblacion&pDonde=santander&pCalle=&pPortal=
What is specially useful about it is that you can locate the lodging in a map.

Apartamentos/ Hoteles Las Brisas: Nice place with continental breakfasts

Our entire group stayed at either the Apartments or the Hotels, which are located about a block apart. The Apartments have the advantage of coming with a washing machine, microwave, fridge, and some other things which make it nicer if you're staying for a long time like I was.

The proprietor, Teresa, is smoking hot. She runs the place with her dad, so don't get too friendly, but definitely provides something nice to look at every morning. She also speaks pretty good English

The Apartments are right by the beach and have three restaurants either right underneath or next door. They also have a place where you can park your car (for a price), and I'm pretty sure they take pets, though neither was an issue for me.

Rural houses

there are a lot of rural homes around the area, most of them on litle but superb villages. reaching them is sometimes a problem if you don't have your own transport but there is a bus network that sometimes can help on reaching the villages, but even with a car you might always have to ask for directions so it's time to learn a bit of spanish.

The conditions sometimes are best than a 5 star hotel. The homes are runned by families and they take care of everything.

HOTEL ALTAMIRA (Santillana)
A 3 star hotel in the very middle of the town (c/ Canton, 1), in an old 17th century building. Decorated in old style, its interior is like a real museum. Great patio to have a quiet lunch.

There are a lot of private...

There are a lot of private shared flats in the summertime. Just ask one of the guys near the bus station. These accomodations are usually very cheap,
you get a shared flat in the city with a kitchen and your own key, so you´re free to do what you want. I've never been there in a hotel.

Hotel Reial: One of the nicest places to stay in the whole world - just take a look at the picture !!!
quite expensive, but it´s worth it!

Camping La Paz in Vidiago, close to Llanes. Beautifully situated right next to the beach, it's a terrassed campsite which makes it look less crowded than it actually is!
