Racing Santander
by chrishc
This is the home to the City's Primera Division soccer team in La Liga.
When we visited they were currently bottom and lost away at Atletico Madrid so we did not get to see either a game or the crowds, which I imagine would be substantial.
They have since rallied and are approaching mid-table respectability.
Spanish football is of a very high standard and it wuld be worth a visit to a game in this fine stadium.
Ferries
by bonio
Another way to Santander from the UK is to use Brittany Ferries. They sial from Plymouth and Portsmouth, once a week from each. Crossing time is 20 to 24 hours. Did this journey ourselves in 1991, a little choppy but very enjoyable.
Visit the Maritime Museum
by DanielF
A Maritime Museum could not be missing in a city with a long seafaring history and strong links to the sea. The MMC (Museo Marítimo del Cantábrico) is built on the promenade that leads from the Festival hall to the Beach of the Dangers, directly on the sea. It is not very big and makes a great option for a rainy afternoon.
The exhibits include three different sections: Marine Biology and Aquariums, Fishing Ethnography and Maritime History.

Large spaces, green lanscapes and the animals suggest (with a good will ) that you are in Africa but really you are in Cantabria, enjoying the Cabárceno Park
