by lulupark

hi!

i'm spending a few days in santander and then making my way down to puerto viesge. we don't have a car or plan on renting one. what's the best way to get to the village of puerto viesge using public tranport?

Re: santander to puerto viesge

The buses to Puente Viesgo are leaving from the bus station in the center of Santander
If you come by plane you may take the bus in the airport that finishes in the bus station and if you come by train both stations are in the same square
They start at 8h 30m and latter they leave each two hours aprox. , you may check the exact time-table in : www.continental-auto.es/ , this web is also in English
In Puente Viesgo you have a very interesting cave with prehistoric paintings , a very nice spaa and if you like sweet cakes you must try the "sobados and quesadas"

Buen viaje !!!!!

Puente Viesgo (famous for cave paintings and health spa, the latter fully renovated in the late 1990s. Local bus services from Santander. Alternatively there is a 'Vía Verde' (footpath/cycleway) for much of the way from El Astillero!

Travel Tips for Santander

COLEGIATA (Santillana)
A huge romanic church and monastery at the end of the main street, in Plaza de las Arenas. The cloister definetly deserves a visit. Entrance 400 ptas. No shorts or swimming suits allowed.

Beachwear

by DanielF

Trendy beachwear is an essential item in the luggage of any visitor to Santander. Top-less is common in all the beaches, although La Concha and the First of El Sardinero tend to be more conservative. Naturist beaches are located out of the city, in El Puntal, Langre and the Liencres area.

Although the weather is rainnier in Santander than in most of Spain, there are sunny days all year round and the temperature very rarely falls below freezing level, so it is pleasant to go to the beach at any time of the year, be it just to take a long, solitary stroll.

Ancient galleons

by andal13

You will find an open museum at Península de la Magdalena: imitations of galleons and of Vital Alsar's raft (the one he used to sail across the Pacific Ocean), can be seen there.
And nearby there is a small zoo when I met some sea dogs brought from my country. Actually I met some countrymen so far from home!

Cabarceno - Un Parque especial /An special park

by elpariente

It is 20 kms from Santander and is not a conventional zoo, this park houses over a hundred species of animals from five continents in semi freedom, as the animals have room to move in large spaces in open and very large areas (750 hectares)
Originally it was an iron mine open pit and highlights the karst landscape with vegetation, evergreen, that we have in Cantabria
The park is very well kept and the animals receive special care
It is something different and if you have time you should not fail to see it, is for children and also to enjoy the
not so young (Calculate at least three or four hours if the visit is done by car, but if you want to do this walking it can can take much longer)
