First time in Toledo

by DebraBia

I am traveling to Toledo in December. I am looking for some good Tapas and must see locations. Any suggestions?

A good restaurant for Tapas is Adolfo Collection in Calle Nuncio Viejo 1 - 45002 Toledo.
You'll fine more info about the restaurant and about sightseeings in Toledo in my VT page about this city
Cheers

The Cathedral is stunning and leave time for the room full of gold/silver artifacts. If you like El Greco, there is quite a collection at various locals (http://www.toledo.world-guides.com/attractions.html) The Alcazar was not open when we were there 3 years ago. There are a lot of "fees" for these places. I would think there is something of a day pass that would be worthwhile checking out. We didn't run into any food places worth mentioning (We ate next to the Mcdonalds). But then again, I didn't get to do my usually foodie research on Toledo. Some of the ceramic stores had some excellent pieces at reasonable prices. Karl

Sorry to be late on this thread. Toledo is an amazing city and is quite rightly world heritage listed. Even the railway station should be world heritage listed.

We stayed there for 3 nights and could have stayed longer - suggest you just walk the tiny streets and take it all in. Main cathedral is a must see. Suggest avoiding the restaurant next door to Mac Donalds in the main square - we had a fight with the worlds rudest waiter there.

Most of the restaurants don't open until 9pm as that's the Spanish custom.

Travel Tips for Toledo

Evenings in Toledo

by barryg23

Toledo was beautiful at night. The daily crowds of tourists had departed, the streets were darker and everywhere was so much quieter. After our meal we walked up to the Alcazar to the edge of the old town. There were lovely views from here across to the new town and back over the city.

View of Toledo

by Christianne

I know that the photos if myself are not my best. Anyway, please forgive me! I was exhausted.
While strolling around with the friends, we stopped in one square for coffee.
There was a group of old, obviously retired people, talking and making comments about different subjects, something that reminded me of Greece.

Old symbols

by SirRichard

This badge of the eagle was used first by the "Catholic Kings" in the 15th century.
And recently it was adopted too by General Franco Dictatorship to simbolize a return to imperial times... it didn't last much though...

Look around you !

by alucas

Keep your eyes open, and look around you, not forgetting to look up at the buildings. These balconies are in one of the main shopping streets, I believe it was Calle del Hombre de Palo, close to the Cathedral

Ceramics

by virtualpatrick

One of the things to look for in Toledo are local handicrafts such as ceramics.

Typical designs include bold, bright primary colors of blue and gold (go ND Fightin' Irish - sorry had to get that in as an alumnus) and scenes depicting Toledo's history.
