The hotel is not particularly cheap, the published rate in 2005 is 130 euros for a double room, but the rooms are large and very comfortable, and we would use it again.
The photo is taken from the hotel’s website as I haven’t got one myself. I know it’s against the rules, but in this case I don’t think the hotel would mind.

The hotel is a charming old place with very modern rooms which are nicely decorated. Our bathroom was decorated with lovely tiles and the whole experience was one of staying in a really grand facility. Just across the hall from our room on the second floor was an open but enclosed patio where one could relax or have a drink in the open air.
The staff was most accommodating and helpful with maps, directions, luggage and calling a taxi for us once. The buffet breakfast was better than most, had a pretty wide selection of food and drinks and served in a charming room with real tablecloths. It was 7.57 Euros (I don’t know how they arrived at that figure). We enjoyed it but only ate there our first morning as we walked across the street to a park the second day
for churros at a little stand.
Prices were I thought excellent as we paid 90.44 Euros per night for two. I think I got a discount for booking by internet (or maybe it was a senior discount) because the posted rate was 106.40. We found everything about the hotel wonderful and thank our VT friend Deecat for the recommendation.
The Hostel del Cardenal is an 18th C building built on land given to the Cardinal of Toledo (Bernard of Cluny) after the city was taken from the Moors by Alfonso VI in the late 11th C. The area just inside the old city walls was a recreational area for the Cardinals and Cardinal Lorenzana built the present building in the late 18th C. It is a charming place, the entrance to which is still through the old city walls. Entering here, you are in the lovely hotel garden, then you ascend a couple of short flights of stairs into the hotel proper. Off to the left as you enter is the hotel restaurant housed in what was formerly the summer residence. With its central location (100 meters from the Cathedral), reasonable prices (45€ for a double) and newly renovated facilities you cannot go wrong by choosing it as your accommodation in Toledo.
There's a shared terrace with some stunning and unique views of the city.

I've never stayed there, but most of the people I know have stayed there.
It has good views but it's a little far from the centre, approximately 20 minutes walking.
It's an old castle with very beautiful decoration and confortable rooms.

wonderful arabesques decoration with a book to show its arabic origins, this is heaven in Toledo, my secret now share with VT.
The origins of the building go back to the 17th Century; although the old water cistern (the current dining room) dates back to the middle Ages…
The Almunia itself becomes an improvised stage of the novel “ El Gran Arcano” (The Great Secret) by Paloma Sanchez-Garnica.
Almunia … its name sounds like an Andalusian legend, like a nostalgic desire at the bank of the Tajo… Almunia , from the classical Arabic word munyah , which means desire , but also garden , which in the case of this guesthouse has taken the form of a beautifully calm patio, like the city that accommodates it.
