Great traditional place to stay,Cardenal

wonderful town, you will stay outside until late hours is the custom in my Spain.

I have family just outside there so when go lately no need to stay but few years back did stay at hostal del Cardenal, very typical in city center, and very historical , a local recomm ::)

For late drinks and music, go to Circulo del Arte, in what was the church of San Vincente, once the headquarters during the Inquisition and a place of worship during those days. And alas today you party hardy there so tells me my nieces and cousins ::) They always have something going, and many other activities too

Hope it helps your planning

One Of The Best In Toledo.

This is really a very nice hotel if you want to explore the old Toledo by foot. This is also a great place to start your day whether you want to explore beaten paths or unbeaten paths of Toledo.

Unique Quality: Great garden with tall trees and beautiful flowers.

Former residence of the Cardinal

The hotel is a charming old place with very modern rooms which are nicely decorated. Our bathroom was decorated with lovely tiles and the whole experience was one of staying in a really grand facility. Just across the hall from our room on the second floor was an open but enclosed patio where one could relax or have a drink in the open air.

The staff was most accommodating and helpful with maps, directions, luggage and calling a taxi for us once. The buffet breakfast was better than most, had a pretty wide selection of food and drinks and served in a charming room with real tablecloths. It was 7.57 Euros (I don’t know how they arrived at that figure). We enjoyed it but only ate there our first morning as we walked across the street to a park the second day
for churros at a little stand.

Prices were I thought excellent as we paid 90.44 Euros per night for two. I think I got a discount for booking by internet (or maybe it was a senior discount) because the posted rate was 106.40. We found everything about the hotel wonderful and thank our VT friend Deecat for the recommendation.

Unique Quality: The Hostel del Cardenal is an 18th C building built on land given to the Cardinal of Toledo (Bernard of Cluny) after the city was taken from the Moors by Alfonso VI in the late 11th C. The area just inside the old city walls was a recreational area for the Cardinals and Cardinal Lorenzana built the present building in the late 18th C. It is a charming place, the entrance to which is still through the old city walls. Entering here, you are in the lovely hotel garden, then you ascend a couple of short flights of stairs into the hotel proper. Off to the left as you enter is the hotel restaurant housed in what was formerly the summer residence.

A Little Jewel

This little gem of a hotel has great service, nice -- if simple -- rooms and a lovely setting built right into the old walls of Toledo. The gardens arolund the hotel are quiet and shady and the ideal place for a quiet drink or meal. Best of all, this hotel has what is reputed to be the best restaurant in the city!

Unique Quality: Great gardens, excellent location, friendly service and a fabulous restaurant -- all for about $100 a day.

While in Toledo, we stayed at the Hostal Del Cardenal. It is a Toledan Palace of the 18th Century and a former summer residence of Cardinal Lorenzana, archbishop of the city.

In addition to its excellent location, it has beautiful Moorish gardens, and a restaurant with outstanding cuisine.

It is so old-world; with its arches, stained glass, and vintage restaurant that it takes you back in time.

Our hotel room was lovely. It overlooked a court yard and had a modern, gorgeous bathroom. The hotel is framed by the ancient city wall amidst lovely gardens. This charming hotel has one of the best Restaurants in Spain. [ See restaurant tip.]

It's location is enchanting, beautiful, and so convenient.

The large rooms and terrific bathrooms just add to the location's ambience.

Vintage stuff!

The impressive hotel has only 27 rooms with air, telephone, satellite TV.

Breakfast is not part of the hotel price, but a delicious Breakfast is served for 850 Pts. in 1999.

Hostal del Cardenal

Treat yourself to Toledo's best-known restaurant, owned by the same people who run Madrid's Sobrino de Botín. The chef prepares regional dishes with flair and originality. Choosing from a menu very similar to that of the fabled Madrid eatery, begin with "quarter of an hour" (fish) soup or white asparagus, then move on to curried prawns, baked hake, filet mignon, or smoked salmon. Roast suckling pig is a specialty, as is partridge in casserole. Arrive early to enjoy a sherry in the bar or in the courtyard.
