Staying at Hotel Santa Isabel
by A TripAdvisor Member
I booked a night for two double rooms based on reviews in Trip Advisor of this hotel, and received a e-mail response that we had 2 double reserved that were "quiet rooms with balcony and nice view". We checked in at about 2-3 p.m. and were given noisy, small rooms with a very small window and a view of a roofed interior courtyard. They were clean, but in retrospect I would look elsewhere for a hotel, probably in the Plaza Zocodover area. The Plaza Zocodover area might also offer somewhat easier driving access. The Hotel Santa Isabel's location is not ideal for drivers faint of heart.
A gem of a place!

The Hotel Santa Isabel is truly a unique and wonderful place to stay. We were most impressed with the overall cleanliness of this sparking gem. It was actually the cheapest hotel stay during our trip to Spain, but definitely the best! I wanted to add my review to let others know that big bucks do not necessarily ensure the best.

Hotel Santa Isabel
After reading other reviews on TripAdvisor, we stayed 1 night at Hotel Santa Isabel - a bargain at 45euros/night including taxes. Hotel interior was gutted and rebuilt in 2002. Very clean and nicely appointed bathroom. Bed was OK but not spectacular. Our A/C did not work and the front desk closes at midnight, so we had to open the window. Hotel is in a quiet area so it was not a problem - no disco noise or anything like that. Hotel is in a great location where you can walk anywhere in town. We parked just footsteps away from the front door and didn't have to pay. Toledo has metered zones (designated by blue paint marking the spots) but all other areas are free. Hotel had a nice rooftop deck accessible from the 3rd floor - it overlooks the cathedral and the surrounding areas. In-room TV had a few English channels such as CNN and BBC World. Front desk was very friendly and spoke perfect English. They suggested a restaurant for dinner that was wonderful - the restaurant is underground in a cave-like setting with a menu filled with game such as venison, duck, and lamb but has lots of other interesting choices as well. For the money and location, you can't beat this hotel.
great deal/location

we stayed at the hotel santa isabel in march 2005. i would recommend this hotel to anyone. it was clean, inexpensive and courteous. we had a problem with our rental car while we were there and the hotel front desk clerk helped us out immensely. the location is ideal. it is within the city walls and very close to plaza zodocover which is the main plaza. we had alot of trouble finding the hotel and drove around in circles in toledo, which is known for the narrow streets, for about an hour asking people if they new where the hotel was. no one had heard of it. we finally stopped a taxi cab and he knew where the hotel was and took us to there while my husband followed in the rental car.
Great Location, Very Nice Room

At the equivalent of $95 per night for a triple, the Hotel Santa Isabel is an extraordinary value. The location is so perfect that, even though we were present for the Corpus Christi celebration, the hotel proved to be central to everything, but just outside that zone so that we could exit the garage and drive down the hill right out of town without hitting the crowds. More special is the value of the rooms. We stayed in the new wing, which just opened. The rooms are spotless, tasteful, even a bit luxurious. The bathroom was sizable enough, and the temperature control worked well. One note about the shutters, they were so effective that when the alarm awoke us at 7:30, I thought it was the middle of the night. Even though it was a party night, we were able to fall asleep easily. The lobby is nice and the inexpensive breakfast is served in a very nice dining room. There is no reason not to stay at this hotel except if you want to stay outside the city (which is a questionable idea in Toledo) or you demand topflight luxury wherever you go. Santa Isabel is the next best thing, but at a price. One caveat: the parking garage can be difficult to enter, but a nice representative from the hotel was with us all the way to help us get into our spot.
Old world charm for a steal in Toledo

After reading about the Hotel Santa Isabel in Rick Steves' Spain 2005 and the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, I booked the Santa Isabel for two nights in May. We were lucky enough to get room 102, the only room with two balconies: one looks out on the Convento Santa Isabel (see photo), the other onto a neighbouring street.
The room was spartan but spotless. The small bathroom had a combination tub/shower and provided shampoo and olive oil soap. For 45 Euros/night for a double, the Santa Isabel is a steal. It is very conveniently located (about a five-minute walk from the Toledo cathedral) and is far enough away from Plaza Zocodover that it is fairly quiet, except for the scooters roaring down the streets at night.
One note: skip the 4 Euro breakfast and seek out a good cafe, such as the Cafe de las Monjas on Calle Santo Tome, or pick up some marzipan pastries and toldedano cookies to enjoy on one of Toledo's squares.
I would definitely return. The Santa Isabel is full of charm, including hallways tiled with azulejos, interior courtyards filled with antiques, and a splendid terrace with million-dollar views of Toledo's ancient rooftops.
Excellent Hotel

Beautiful, clean, great, great location. Room 212 or 214, don't remember gave us for only 52 euros, a large, deluxe twin beds room with 2 balconies. One opened to a spectacular view of the Cathedral. The bathroom was large and modern. The floors were polished to a lovely sheen. Staff at desk could have been friendlier....especially as they set the tone upon arriving. However, that was minor. Loved this hotel.

I'm looking at two places there and wondered if anyone has experience with either- Hotel Imperio and Hotel Santa Isabel. They're fairly close to each other, so location doesn't seem to be an issue.
