Parador: The best in town

In the centre of town, abutting the city walls is the ancient (though recently extended) Parador. Top class!

PARADOR DE AVILA: In a 16th Century Palace...

As is the "norm" with a Parador, the accommodation is not cheap and is very luxurious.

We decided on the spur of the moment to stay in Avila and we were not disappointed with the Parador

Local menu, excellent surroundings of former palace.

Parador de Avila: Stay In A Kewl Parador in Avila!

This beautiful Parador is situated in the "Piedras Albas" Palace which has been built into the walls of the town. Its name makes reference to the Conquistador of the town, promoter of the walls to safe guard the town during mediaeval days.

** Conquistador (meaning "Conqueror" in the Spanish language) is the term used to refer to the soldiers, explorers and adventurers who brought much of the Americas under the control of Spain in the 15th through the 17th century. **

The external facade of the Parador may not appeal much to you... but once you enter, you'll be awed by its interior decor. Beautiful decorative elements, granite floors, bright colors and its large rooms have all been beautifully and tastefully combined to bring out the best of what this Parador can offer its guests.

If you are too lazy to venture too far out into the town, you can call room service to deliver your favorite local delights like "Pucheretes Teresianos" (read: vegetable and pork stew) or veal steak... or even "Judias de El Barco" (read: beans) and "Yemas" of St Teresa - the sweet dessert I mentioned under "Local Customs" in further detail.

This Parador has everything in place in the room - like hairdryer, minibar, safe, cable TV, phone (very important!)... TV ...etc.

I doesn't feel like a Parador. It feels more like a sumptuous deluxe hotel or even, a Palace! ;-p

The €120.00 per room per night is worth every cent. (Room rate @ end-2003).

Palacio VALDERRABANOS ****: HOTELS OR CAMPING SITES????THAT'S THE QUESTION....

THE **** SHOWS THAT WE DECIDED NOT TO GO THERE......

Far to expensive and something more simple is enough for only 1-2 nights...

And....there are lots of fine camping sites around Avila, officially approved camping sites with a capacity for several thousands of people.....

It looked great, GRAND, that is the only thing I can say.....perhaps you will sleep here one day, who knows and, please, then do tell me all of it!!!

The PARADORA DE AVILA (CAPITAL): PARADORES......

This photo shows the PARADOR in the Capital AVILA.

For the exact address go to the OFFICINA DE TURISMO (tOURIST OFFICE) at the Plaza de la Catedral 4. tel. number: 21.13.87

A PARADOR is a first class Tourist-hotel in a HISTORICAL building, such as palaces and Monasteries, excellent restored to its former glory by the Spanish Government and that is on THE list of Heritage.

They are situated in scenic places, are tastefully furnished and luxurious!

The idea is that they are places for tourist that want to stay there for longer than 1-2 days/nights.....

PARADORES....: GREAT PLACES TO STAY, NOT VERY CHEAP BUT....

They are mostly housed in wonderful monumental buildings, an old castle or fortification e.g. and are very atmospheric!!

You will enjoy a stay there, if only for one night....

Everything is of excellent quality, the furnishment, the food and what more you can imagine you would like to enjoy..

There are 2 PARADORES in the province of Avila. In the CAPITAL there is the 3 star Parador RAIMUNDO DE BORGONA and in de SIERRA DE GREDOS (NAVARREDONDA), THE PARADOR DE GREDOS , WHICH ALSO IS A 3 STAR ACC.
