Albergue Municipal: shelter in Tardajos

This quiet shelter is financed by the Asociación de Amigos del Camino de Santiago de Madrid. The hospitaleros do not earn any money; they just work for free to help the pilgrims.
The shelter is inside a house. Upstairs are the rooms and kitchen; while on the ground floor are the wash machine and a terrace to have breakfast.
In case that you do not cook yourself, just in front, next door to the church, there is a cafeteria where they serve cheap dinners.

Pequeño Potala: shelter in the way on foot to Galicia

This is very intimate and small shelter, up in the mountains, ruled by an Andalucia hospitalero who knows the technique of Shiatsu and will help you if you feel pain in your legs.
The cost to sleep one night is 5 euros, dinner (vegetarian) 6 euros, and a really very good breakfast with toasts, marmalade, and plenty of aromatic coffee with fresh milk from the village cows, only 3 euros.
In the interior you will notice several tankas, Confucius axioms written in the walls, fountains pouring water in strategic places observing the principles of Feng Shui. The hospitalero is a philosopher.

Albergue del Monasterio de las Benedictinas: religious shelter in Leon

This is shelter unique in the Camino, ruled by nuns Carvajalas of Santa Maria, who will cure your wounds in your feet.
Before sleeping they will invite you to the mess devoted to the pilgrims.
They also offer breakfast for free.
It is located in downtown Leon, so, please, do not miss the loveliest and most fantastic Cathedral in Spain, which is like a temple dedicated to the light. If you are not a believer, after watching this beyond belief cathedral, you will believe!

Albergue Espíritu Santo: shelter in Carrión de los Condes

The nuns belong to the Order Hijas de la Caridad de San Vicente de Paul. During the night, while you are sleeping, will visit the dormitory and will cover you with additional blankets if they consider that you can get cold. In the morning, very early, they will offer you hot coffee with milk and some biscuits for breakfast. Before eating they will make a prayer thanking God for the food.
Another advantage of this clean shelter is that he dormitory has real beds, no bunk beds like in the army.

Albergue de Peregrinos: shelter in Fromista

This shelter is private, sited inside a flat. The owners will show you the room and the kitchen, where you can cook your products. It is very clean, but the best are the views over the best Romanic example of architecture in Spain, the lovely Church San Martin de Fromista, and an incredibly beautiful chef d’œuvre, compared with the Cathedral of Jaca and the Colegiata San Isidoro de Leon.

Refugio Ave Fénix: shelter in Villafranca del Bierzo

This a shelter ruled by a charming family that has a long tradition to help pilgrims. Jesus is the owner and has therapeutic power in his hands. He also knows all the secret of the plants.
I arrived to this shelter with pain in my left leg that made me walk very slowly. Jesus then prepared a potion with plants, and next day I could run again!
The shelter itself is very spartan, but the humane quality of Jesus and his wife compensate for everything. They serve delicious Castilian consistent dinners at good prices, and even will invite you if you do not have money (many pilgrims make the Camino without a single euro).

Palacio de Gaudi: shelter in Astorga

In Astorga confluent two ways, the Camino de Santiago and the Via de la Plata (starting in Sevilla) and from there both Caminos go together.
This shelter is private, but nice, and not expensive.
It is close to the Palace erected by Antonio Gaudi.
Please, try Cocido Maragato in the any restaurant. It is delicious!

Parroquia San Juan de Ortega: shelter in San Juan de Ortega

This is the first shelter that you encounter when you cross the Montes de Oca (Goose Mountains) during several hours without meeting a single soul.
It is ruled by the priest, a very charismatic man who will prepare succulent garlic soups.
The dormitory is upstairs, sometimes does not have hot water, nor blankets (in winter that area is really very cold!), but the place is fantastic. You should visit the temple where in the summer and winter equinoctials the light of the sun falls through a specially opened hole to show the Annunciation of Saint Gabriel to the Virgin Mary statues.
You have a nice restaurant besides the Parroquia (Parish) to order beer and tapas.

San Anton: Shelter in Castrojeriz

This is another pleasant shelter for pilgrims. The hospitalero (man in charge of pilgrims) will give you the warmest welcome.
You pay according to your will. If you do not have money, then it is free of charge.
It is located in Camino de Hontanas a Castrojeriz, at three kilometres from the San Anton ruins, dating from the XIV century.

Refugio Parroquial Belorado: sleeping in a church

This is a free shelter inside the Parish “La Parroquia de Santa María y San Pedro”, but somewhat deficient (especially the showers!), that is the reason why some pilgrims in Belorado prefer to go to a private one and pay 8 euros. But I liked it.
There is a table with fruits and coffee with milk and biscuits for the pilgrims passing by, all is free, but you can leave a donation in a box.
They also have a library with plenty of books about the Camino that you can consult.
