TAPAS...Only order one drink!
by raquelitalarga
León is a great city for tapas because it is one of the few that serves it free with every drink! The custom is to not stay in any one bar for long as each have their one or two specialities. If you want to stuff yourself for free but not get too drunk...order a small beer called a 'corto' and the tapas will arrive a couple of minutes later. Pay fairly quickly then it's off to the next bar!
*This custom is quite different to the other city where free tapas is commonplace, Granada. In Granada you are encouraged to stay in one bar for as long as possible by the knowledge the quality of your food will improve with each round. I prefer León's system because encourages the bars to cooperate with each other, offering more varied and interesting food.
The Streets of Leon
by garridogal
We really enjoyed wandering through the winding pedestria streets of Leon's center. We found a wonderful wine and cheese shop and its owner sent us over to a wonderful plaza where we could find tapas. The sun had almost set and the lighting was moody and beautiful.
Vintage Posters

Vintage posters abound in this lovely city. This one I spied in a fantastic cafe, however there is a store called El Capitan where you can pick out your favorite. They are plastered to the ceiling of the store and illuminated by glowing candlesticks.
Leon

I visited Leon briefly in 2001. Little city with great cathedral. This is one spot where you can start walking the pilgrim's path, the Camino de Santiago.
You are sure to see people with walking sticks in the summertime.
They are headed to Santiago de Compostela, some 300 km away, most of them by foot!
Get your pilgrim's passport from the Obispo near Cathedral and start walking toward the Compostela Certificate, if you have two weeks to spare and strong feet!
