Bernesga river
by SirRichard
This is the river that crosses Leon capital. It comes from the north, from the mountains in Asturias.
There are many municipal parks at the river banks, and (useful if you come with kids) a McDonalds with an excellent playground, near the Bullfighting Ring.
Trout rivers

The province of León is famous for its trout rivers.
There are over 3,000 km of crystal-clear waters.
Those visitors interested in water sports will find adequate facilities at the León Yacht Club on the Barrios de Luna reservoir, amongst other places, while winter sports can be practiced at the San Isidro pass (Puebla de Lillo), Esla 2002 (Llanaves de la Reina) and Valgrande-Pajares.
Castrillo de los Polvazares

This is a little charming old village near Astorga, in the region named "La Maragateria".
It is all built in red bricks with little houses and stone paved streets. It makes a nice halfday trip from Leon and is famous by its "Cocido Maragato" (see restaurant tips).
It's got a main street and a few more sidewalks, is really tiny...
Perigrino arrives in Leon

about 470 kms from St Jean Pied de Port and another 425 to Muxia via Santiago and Finisterre.
I limped into Leon with Diane and Jose, lunched, bought myself a replacement camera, contacted my Couch Surfing Host Ricardo and discovered that 3 days of chasing people, not listening to my own body, my right ankle was not looking healthy.
so instead of 2 nights in Leon, i spent two with Ricardo and family, amazing hospitality, another at the Convento Santa MAria de las Carbajalas.
