Inside the Cathedral---Depiction of Saints
by pabertra
Their are several lovely paintings of the different Catholic Saints built into one wall on the left side of the cathedral. It did not detail who was who, but this one caught my imagination with the huge keys in his hand (perhaps the keys of wisdom?) and the banner over his head.
The Camino de Santiago
by pabertra
As you are walking through the storied streets do not forget to look down and every so often you will observe the gold shells marking the Camino de Santiago. The Camino is a route originating in the French Pyrennes and heading all the way to Santiago de Compostela in the Galicia region of Spain. Pilgrims would make the journey, called peregrinaciones as an alternative to making the much longer journey to Jerusalem. The shell has become symbolic, because centuries ago the pilgrims carried large clam shells, that they used as a plate to eat their food on while on their journey.

Castrojeriz is a beautiful little town situated on the route to Santiago de Compostela. There are some very nice houses here, right next to ruins, which makes the atmosphere quite typical.
This is the road to Castrojeriz.
