Staying in Leon
I'm planing a driving holiday to northern Spain next year, staying in Leon. I would really like to stay at the Parador. The paradores website states that there is a carpark at the site in Leon, but having stayed at other paradores in the past, I have found that sometimes there are not enough spaces! Is the car park at Leon parador adequate, and is it easy to find? Thanks!
Re: Staying in Leon
If the parador your staying in in Leon is San Marcos, then yes there is parking there ,and it should be ample. Its to the r.h.s. of San Marcos as you look at the building from the plaza.
If I've I'm thinking of the wrong place - Appologies.
ps you do know that Leon to the Coast of Asturias is about 1 1/2 - 2 hours drive?

Travel Tips for León
This is another nice building located at Cathedral Square. This huge and nice square has also other nice buildings to see,as the one I show you on the picture.Around the square you'll find also some shops, and cafeterias, this is a nice place to have a break and have some rest and a drink.
San Marcos building was built in the Medieval Ages to be used as accomodation for the many pilgrims that passed by towards Santiago de Compostela.
It has a magnificient facade and a church with a cloister.
Now the main building houses the San Marcos Parador, a hotel, and the church is used as "Museo de Leon".
Gaudi building in Astorga
The spanish architect Gaudi is often associated to Barcelona, but he also made some works around Spain. Here in Astorga you can find a beautiful one, a building made for the archibishop, now turned into a museum. Unfortunately, it was closed on Xmas day, the day I visited Astorga, but the external facade really deserves the visit by itself.
the settlement of leon began as a camp for rome's seventh legion. during the middle ages leon played a critical role in the christian reconquest of spain. today leon is a major modern city and it's old quarter is quite small. the walls around the old quarter date back to roman times. the old quarter is certainly worth a look on a visit to the northeast section of castilla y leon.
