Travel Tips for Palencia
Women's golden band
by -deja.Ismael
History says that, in 1388, the city of Palencia was attacked by the English of the Duke of Lancaster, while the militia of the city was out (looking for the same English). Without enough men to defend the city, the women did the job, defeating the English. To remember the action, the ladies of Palencia were allowed to wear golden ribbons over their dress, and they still do in traditional or official events.
In 1996, a women was elected for the first time to be deputy of Palencia in the Spanish Parliament. She made her oath with dressed in red, with her golden ribbon. A journalist from Madrid who didn't know the tradition wrote she was dressed with the colours of the flag of Spain! :-)

You get surprised when you expect to visit a chapel and you meet yourself face to face with this big temple of three bays .
Recently has been restored , and it is an example of the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic
Built on centuries XII and XIII it follows the general ideas of the Romanesque , though you may see inside that the finishing on the nave is Gothic

Once more you are surprised when you are traveling the inmense Castilla field and in an small village you find a church of the size and with the treasures that has the Parrish church of San Juan Bautista
It has a central part of the building of an splendorous Gothic , with a Romanesque tower and some windows of the same style . A very nice Renascence altar decoration where are matching the good carving and its monumentally. the acces portico to the church is "plateresco" and it is quite torn due to the stone quality
