Aparte de las Imágenes y los Santos que hay en los templos Románicos tenemos que pensar que sus constructores nos querían decir algo más y que para ello prestaban gran atención a los simbolos en la construcción y orientación de sus templos , asi como en los números , tanto en el número en si como en el número de veces que representaban una cosa y en las figuras que hacían en sus capiteles , canecillos...
Las figuras , tienen distintos significados y las más comunes son figuras animales (león , paloma, serpiente...), productos vegetales ( calabazas , comida de víbora , frutas...) y seres fantásticos (arpías , dragones , sirenas...)

Fuentes Carrionas Nature Park

This an area stretching out Northern Palencia.Wonderful scenary in the mountains.
There is a kind of museum called Casa del Parque in Cervera.
You can choose 3 interesting routes:
1.-From the very little village of Cardaño de Arriba to Lomas lake.7 kms.
2.-From Brañosera to the shelter house Golobar.8 kms.3 hours on foot.
3.-Going up to Curavacas Peak (2525 m.) from Vidrieros.5 kms. but 1250 meter uphill.

Autilla Viewpoint

Autilla is situated about 9 kms.far away from Palencia taking the N-611 road towards Villalon,and then taking the road towards Villamartín where there is another road which comes to the top of the hill where Autilla is situated.Another way is taking the B road from Palencia towards Ampudia.
From the viewpoint can be seen more than 30 villages.The area is called Tierra de Campos,and id you come in Spring you can imagine a sea,a sea with little waves of wheat and barley waving with the wind.
Very close to the viewpoint there is a typical cellar for eating and drinking something.
Furthermore,Autilla has a museum of Ethnography:Agricultural works,food productions,social organizations,clothing...Apart from Agriculture,which was the main way to living,there are representative objects of the characteristic jobs of the area,such as Blacksmiths,stone masons,spinners.shoemakers,vintners..

Palencia - San Andrés del Arroyo

Es un convento de madres de clausura que por algún extraño motivo no permiten hacer fotografías
Tiene un claustro mezcla de románico y gótico que es muy interesante

Palencia: La bella desconocida:

En la comunidad de Castilla León se encuentra la provincia de Palencia, una auténtica joya desconocida para aquellos que aún no han tenido la suerte de recorrerla.
Empecemos por la provincia, que en su día gracias al trigo, el vino y las merinas tuvo una gran influencia y fue motor de la economía, la cultura y el arte en los alrededores del los siglo IX a XI.
Influenciados por la España que se estaba gestando y por la importancia cultural que tuvo el Camino de Santiago, que produjo un gran movimiento de gentes que dieron lugar a un gran intercambio cultural y a asentamientos de ordenes religiosas como el Temple, el Cister…, se construyeron gran cantidad de templos y monasterios, haciendo que Palencia sea la zona más rica en monumentos románicos de Europa
En los sitios más insospechados puedes encontrar una pequeña ermita o una iglesia que bien merecería ser llamada catedral y que te va a dejar boquiabierto y preguntándote como es posible que hayan hecho este monumento en “mitad de ninguna parte “
Tampoco se pueden olvidar los paisajes con sus trigales, su inmensidad y la gran variedad de colores que se modifican al capricho del viento
En Palencia capital se puede ver una catedral realmente impresionante y visitar alguna iglesia y monumentos interesantes, así como pasear por sus tranquilas calles peatonales y de paso comerte en alguna confitería los amarguillos o si quieres algo más serio tomarte una menestra con un buen lechazo.

Palencia the unknown Beauty
In Castilla Leon community it is a province called Palencia , a real unknown jewel for all those that yet have not had the chance to discover it
We are starting on his province that due to the wheat , the wine and the merinas in the medieval days it had a great influence and it was the engine of the economy , the culture and arts during the centuries IX to XI
With the influence of the borning Spain and with the importance of the Camino de Santiago that created a great movement of people and to the settlement of religious orders as the Temple , the Cister...a lot of temples are monasteries were built , that made Palencia the richest area of Europe in Romanesque monuments.
In the most unexpected places you may find a chapel or a church that could be considered as a cathedral that will leave you with your open mouth and asking to yourself how is possible that they should make this monument in "the middle of nowhere"
You can not forget the landscapes , with the immensity of the wheat fields and with their variety of colours moved with the wind caprice
In Palencia city you may visit a really impressive cathedral and interesting churches and monuments and as well to stroll by the quite pedestrian streets and by the way to eat an "amarguillo" in some of the cake shops or if you want some thing more serious you may have a vegetable stew (menestra) and a roast lamb (Lechazo)
