Go to ZAMORA - a short and frequent bus ride away.
This beautiful city suffers, unfairly in my view, by comparison to Salamanca. Other than the cathedral there may be nothing monumentally outstanding but several romanesque churches are OK by my reckoning. NOT when I realised that everything of interest was shut for Monday! Cool terrain

On the way to Salamanca from the east, you'll start to notice the terrain changes a bit. You'll notice these giant stones scattered about the fields on the side of the road. It's a sparse and barren looking landscape and isn't quite like anything I've seen before.
Pans & Company
by pabertra
For all of us non-Europeans trying Pans & Company at least once is a must! This fast food place serves huge baguette style sandwiches, fries with mayonnaise, and even beer if you so desire. Not an authentic Spanish meal, but makes for an easy picnic in one of Salamanca's many parks.* Just a note that picnics are virtually unheard of here in Spain, so although a cultural faux paus, have one once and awhile and nobody will notice :)
The Old Cathedral
by Carmela71
After more than a century the catedral was finished at the end of XIII in a Romanesque art.
The area that surrenders the catedral, there are more monuments and also some streets only for restaurants and terraces.
Very nice at night

CIUDAD RODRIGO
Just have a good wander round looking at as many as you can manage of the coats of arms on the walls.
I found it such a peaceful place after a number of bigger cities. I seemed to constitute the entire English speaking population!
