Hi,
I see that buses and trains leave from Madrid to Salamanca, but do any depart from the Madrid airport?

I don't think so..
Buses to Salamanca leave from the bus station close to the Metro stop "Conde de Casal". I took the metro 12 from the airport (stop "Aeropuerto") to "Nuevos Ministerios" where I changed to line 6 (pay attention, it's a circular line!) Check this map: http://www.urbanrail.de/eu/mad/madrid.htm
there is no train station at the airport, only metro with it you can go to the Chamartin train station where the train leaves you can check prices and timetable of trains between madrid and Salamanca at:
www.renfe.es
or for timetables just in english at:
http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html
there are around 6 trains a day and one way cost around 16 euros!

A typical Spanish custom is the two-cheek kisses, specially when a man meets a woman though women also kiss each other. On the other hand men shake hands or embrace if they know each other. In Spain people don't keep the distance when they meet or talk, people are warmer than in other places and physical contact is very common.
In addition to this, people talk to each other while having a drink or in the street, even if they do not each other. To have a drink in a pub is a good chance of meeting people and the Plaza Mayor of Salamanca is the best place to do it.
Also between Madrid 40KM,and the city of Avila 45 KM,you can see this beautiful monastery: MONASTERIO DE SAN LORENZO DEL ESCORIAL,here are the tombs of all Spanish Kings and Queens,has a lots of things to see,as Pictures,Sculptures,(Has 14 KM. of corridors!)

This is the original part of the Catedral Vieja: it is clearly older than the Romanesque-Gothic side but maybe it is also more fascinating. Here you see tombs of bishops, altars and a gravestone. Most of them were built using a beautiful red stone.
