The outskirts of town

by fairy_dust

If you take some time to walk around the non-touristy places near the outskirts, you might see some ancient buildings there too. Along the streets that are near the river, there are some nice stone buildings.

The Irish bar

by fairy_dust about O'Neill's

This is an Irish bar near the Plaza Mayor. They have the typical Irish pub food. On my first trip to Spain, one of the girls who worked there was from Ireland, and she had a heavy Irish accent. I loved everything I tried, but my favorite was the potato skins.

Take a lovely afternoon stroll through the Plaza, go to the Cathedral, windowshop! Take a look at the University, I think it's the second oldest in the WORLD!
I believe the Plaza is the most beautful in Spain. Before lunchtime, (around 1:30) everyone comes out to bask in the sun or just chat with friends and family

Plaza Mayor

by el_ruso

Every city in Spain (or at least the vast majority) have a large arcaded plaza in the center, and the Salamanca's is the finest I have seen. The arcades are decorated with portraits of Spanish monarchs and Franco, and along its sides you can sit at a table, have a veal steak and watch people pass by. The information booth is here also, but it is not open all day. You can't miss it, and you will want to linger here longer than planned.
