Student accommodation

by safron111

Dear all,

I'm studying at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca for 4 weeks in July 2008. I am enrolled for shared double room + 3 meals at the University hall for 640euros a month. This seems a bit pricy to me, as I have been looking at ads online (for e.g. www.loquo.com). I know it's trickier because I'm only seeking to flat for 4 weeks, but do you have any suggestions?? I would prefer to cook my own food and have my own room, and for cheaper! ?Es posible, no?

Gracias y hasta pronto!

That is expensive indeed. The cheapest would be to find a room in a shared apartment. Many students go back home with their parents during the summer. If you manage to find one of these who would be willing to let you use their room for a month and pay the rent (which i dont think would be more than 300€) then that'd be perfect for you. Now the problem is how to find that. i dont think there's like a student community webpage in spain where you can post such ads, but you can try on the webpage of the university of salamanca (maybe they have a forum there). Another thing you can do is to contact one of your teachers there (or whoever you've contacted to apply for the summer course), send that person a file with an ad of the kind 'I'm a girl from blah, who's gonna stay in Salamanca from blah to blah and I'd need to share a room', and ask that person to hang it on the board at uni for you, so other students can read it before July. If you can do that, and if you'd like to have the ad written in spanish, feel free to email me, I can help you with that. Though i've noticed your spanish skills :)

i just found this for you
http://websou.usal.es/vivienda/habitac.asp
it's a listing of rooms available for rental in Salamanaca (found it on the web of the Universidad de Salamanca). The info is in spanish, hope you understand it though (otherwise I can help you, again). Unfortunately most of those can only be contacted via phone. for some of the rooms, however, they've also provided email addresses.
good luck!

Travel Tips for Salamanca

city of light

by j_laurent

La Plaza Mayor on a clear, beautiful night...it glows gently, beautifully. If you ever visit Salamanca, spend time at the Plaza Mayor during the day, and at night..it is gorgeous. Spending time with the close friends I made from around the world-every moment I spent with them was wonderful. If you are considering studying abroad, go to Salamanca-it is a city full of international students.

The two-cheek kiss

by fairy_dust

We don't usually do that in Canada (except in Quebec), but often, if you're greeting someone you give each other a kiss on each cheek. People also do this when leaving. It's a common custom in many places in Europe (except Scandinavia).

by davidcross

FROM ZAMORA it is a short bus ride to Bragança in Portugal with its Citadella placed above the town.
This is cheating a bit as it does mean planning for the right day (hence Monday!) and staying a night - but it is why I went to Zamora in the first place.

Restaurante Dulcinea

by SusanneBeck about Restaurante Dulcinea

Good service, nice atmosphere and good prices.. what more do you need? Menu del dia for 8 euros! Choice of 3 courses. I had the salad for the starter and it was absolutely delicious. Don´t go for the soup - it´s disgusting! It looks like water with egg yolks and bread floating around and tastes horrible! I had the 'tortilla de jamon' next which came with chips. That was nice and then I followed with ice-cream.

Universidad de Salamanca

by benidormone

The University of Salamanca was founded by King Alfonse IX in 1218. In 1254 Pope Alexander IV made it an official university. The facade was built in the first half of the 16th century and is one of the most important Spanish Plateresque facades.
