Daytrip from Valladolid

by ginirover

Hi !

We'll have a nice 4 day-long weekend in Valladolid at the end of January.
On one of those days, we'd like to make an excursion to either Segovia or Salamanca (or another interesting place in the neighbourhood - if you know one, let us know !).

While looking on the site of the Spanish railways (renfe.es) we see it takes like 4 hours to get from Valladolid to Segovia and the connection to Salamnca seems to be rather poor as well...

DO you have suggestions on how to get there (Bus ?? links ??).

Thanks !
Ginirover - Belgium

For buses you could try...

www.movelia.es

It is in Spanish, but you should be able to follow the site.

hi,

Salamanca and Segovia are good options, they worth a visit.

- To Salamanca:
* By bus. The company that provides this service is Autores (www.auto-res.net). You can buy tickets in internet. Each journey about 1 hour and 30 minutes
* By train. For services search in www.renfe.es. The duration is similar to bus. Less services than bus

- To Segovia:
* By bus. This service is provided by Linecar (www.linecar.es). The duration of the journey is about 1 hour
* For the moment there are no direct trains between Segovia and Valladolid (until 2007, when the hight speed trains will open). If you want to catch a train you have to go to Villalba de Guadarrama (Madrid) and there you have to change the train

From Valladolid and not very far (1 hour) you can visit as well Burgos:
* by bus: Alsa (www.alsa.es) You can buy tickets in the web.
* by train: make a search in www.renfe.es for the services you have.

In Valladolid I recommend to visit the following museums:
Museo National de Escultura
Museo Oriental
Museo de Arte Moderno-Patio Herreriano
The touristic office in Valladolid is beside Acera de Recoletos Street, at Campo Grande Park. They can show you all the interesting places to visit in Valladolid and its region (Castilla y Leon)

Travel Tips for Valladolid

free treat

When you have a drink in one of the bars
or outside on the terraces you will often
be offered a free tapas.
"tapas' is a little snack and can be
everything. Amixture of ognions and gherkins,
a tomato with and ansjovy , a little toast with
baked egg... everything is possible.

And the strange thing is , we found all the
prices quit cheap. Is it because this city
escapes mass tourisme?

CASTRILLO DE LA VEGA,

by Carmela71

CASTRILLO DE LA VEGA, a little village near Aranda de Duero (Burgos), on the road to Valladolid.

Here is where my mum was born, and most of the family lives (my nephews specially), here is where I used to spent most of the summers when I was younger.

surprising the enjoyable sights to see

We flew to Valladolid for the cheapest flights amongst the choice of airports near where we wanted to be in Portugal - Braga - for Easter, had a rental car ready for pick up and off we went.

Valladolid was a good choice - a nice city with a few historic sights - impressive buildings and excellent museum - and then lovely route driving through to Braganca and Chaves to Braga.
