Transport in Barcelona

by karenmillen

I will be disembarking a cruise ship (with husband) early morning and depart from Barcelona airport early evening. Would my best option be walk to Placa de Catalunya, buy a T10, train to Sants and leave suitcases at left luggage there. Back to Placa de Catalunya for some sightseeing then return to Sants for luggage before travelling to airport. 8 journeys in total (for both people) = 1 T10 card - is that correct? I would be grateful if someone could confirm or suggest alternatives.
Thank you
Karen

I would recommend the Airbus if you are planning to take off at Placa de Catalunya. They are right in the plaza and they drop you off right at the terminal. (check your terminal when you get on, they have international/ european) and this does avoid you to walk the long way from the train station to the airport (even though they are connected) In the metro, it's not luggage friendly (mostly steps), however, for the rest of your trip, T10 card is perfect!

If you are disembarking from a cruise ship, that means you want to walk from the port to Placa Catalunya. This is not a short walk - a lot of it uphill - with luggage. If you are planning to tour Barcelona with the "hop on, hop off" Bus Turistic (recommended), then you may start by taking it from the port area to the Placa - subject to your arrival time - they start running about 9:30am. If earlier, you probably have no choice other than a taxi, although there may be a decent bus to Sants or Catalunya from there - I just don't know (T10 good for buses as well). And I presume you will be flying out of Barcelona airport (regular flight) and not Girona aiport, where most charter and discount airlines take off.
And I agree, that for what you have planned, the T10 is an excellent option.

Thank you, I will probably take a taxi to SANTS to offload my luggage for a few hours - I did the Turistic Bus earlier this year and it was brilliant but I don't want to do the loop again (or attempt to get on there with my luggage) Yes I will be flying from Barcelona airport so I will be able to get the train from SANTs to the Airport with my T10 card.
Thanks again

Travel Tips for Barcelona

The Ramblas has to be my...

by SeaBreezeUSA

The Ramblas has to be my favorite spot in all of Barcelona. But there are many, many things to do. Walking down the Ramblas with the canopy of trees overhead, the sidewalk cafes, and vendor shops. It was a great experience. There are many sidewalk cafe's to sit and enjoy a drink, to talk wth friends and enjoy the view. This without a doubt, is one of my most best memories EVER.

Water

by mmurie

There's no problem at all about drinking from the tap. The water we have at our homes comes from a very tight sanity and quality control.

That's true, depending on which cleaning istalation the water comes from it may have a strongest flavour. In case you don't like the water from the tap, there are many companies that sell bottled water that one can find in any supermarket.

1.5L can be purchased from 0.5 euros -or even less. I can reccommend you some marks: Font Vella, Lanjarón, Solan de Cabras, Viladrau, Verí,...

Park Guell - Narrow twisting pathways.

by Jerelis

Gaudi's work is admired by architects around the world as being one of the most unique and distinctive architectural styles. His work has greatly influenced the face of the city of Barcelona architecture and you will see Gaudi's work all over the city. You simply can't miss it! Park Guell is just one of Gaudi's creations and lies north of Barcelona centre. The park is full of narrow twisting pathways which meander through the park. Amazing to witness!

There are so many pathways and different routes that it's easy to loose your bearings. However just as you think you're totally lost you usually come across one of the many park maps en-route. The park is full of trees and shrubs and as we walked around we saw unusual and colourful sculptures, mosaics, walkways and tiling. Besides that we had some fabulous views of Barcelona from Park Guell as the whole grounds are built on hill land.

Address: Carrer d'Olot, 08024 Barcelona.
Directions: Bus 24, 25, 31, or 74. Metro; line 3. Lesseps Station, then follow the street signs. Do keep in mind that it is quite a strenous walk to the main entrance!

shopping for food

by irisbe about SuperSol

Just one street away from our rented appartment in the Gracia area, we could find a lot of things in this little supermarket.
We didn't had to worry to starve ! They had beverages, lots of prepacked ham and cheese, fresh baguettes, milk and all other kinds of allimentary food. Milk, cheese, ham, coffee, bread, beer, cola, water, napkins... we spent about 27 Euro's and it was sufficient to cover the breakfasts of 4 days staying.
