I looked at so many hotels ranging from 5-starred to those that rated 4 stars many of them were boutique-type hotels that were already fully booked by the time I was making a reservation. Then I saw the 4-star Acevi Villaroel via the internet and didn't find much info about the hotel per se online. I was looking for guest comments and photos but kept finding the same photos on the internet. I just booked 3 rooms for our party trusting my instinct. Upon arriving there, we were all actually pleasantly surprised at how well located it is and the minimal modernist touches it exuded. It's on Calle Villaroel just off the Avenue Royal which is well within walking distance of Passeig de Gracia and La Rambla in the Eixample district, right side or dreta. Hotel staff was efficient but nonchalant. No one really smiled until I tipped one desk staff after he followed up on my request for a rental car in Ibiza. The rooms were kept clean and the supplies were replenished each night. There was a safe in each room and a wardrobe with ample space for 2 guests in a double room. There was also an adjacent restaurant but we didn't dine there.
Unique Quality: There was a pool on one side of the hotel on the 2nd level. The area is big and well appointed but 3 sides are surrounded by apartment/residential buildings. They aren't unattractive but still one has a feeling of being 'exposed' while in the pool area since anybody in those buildings could be looking out of their windows toward the pool.
There was also a restaurant in the hotel but we didn't get to try it at all during our stay.
Two conveniently located internet-ready PCs are on each floor for guests to use, free of charge.
