Hotel neigborhood

by vivispy

Guys,

We are a mid 30's couple, artistic but not "party" types, and we are looking for hotels, any suggestions about mid priced hotels? convenience neighborhood we should be in? We will be without a car, and using public transportation during the day, so it would be great to find a place close to metro station and well situated enough so we could walk to restaurants/ bars at night but still, in a place where we could sleep at night! (no extra street noise.. :-))
Any ideas, recommendations would be great.
Thank you!

You might consider Hotel Caledonian. The location is great, and the hotel is nice enough but not luxury. It is close to Plaza Catalunya, which is a stop for the on-and-off sightseeing trolleys. (They are well worth taking--get a pass.) It is walking distance to the Ramblas, close to some of the Gaudi buildings, etc. There are restaurants nearby.

Here is their web site with contact information, etc.

Hi,

I can't help with specific hotels as I don't use them, but Barcelona is a compact city with a very good public transport system, plus many of the sights are easily accessible on foot, so your hotel location is perhaps not as crucial as you might think. All neighbourhoods are safe with the exception of the Lower Raval, and they all have good restaurants and bars, etc, if in varying numbers. It really depends what typr of area you prefer. The following link will give you a feel for the characteristic and ambience of the various neighbourhoods

On our last visit to Barcelona we stayed at the H10 Itaca. This is at walking distance to the Sants railway station where you would arrive when taking the train from the airport. And it is not too far from Plaza Catalunya, so you can also walk. The sightseeing buses also stop at Sants Station, as well as metro/subway trains, and more stops in the surrounding area of the hotel.

The rates at H10 Itaca are still great. I just looked it up on www.hrs.de where I had booked the last time. A double room is 55 Euro, with breakfast it is 63 Euro.

I have stayed in the same street (Avenida de Roma) earlier for a whole month with a local family and consider the area very safe. Plaza de Espanya is not far away either.

There are plenty of other hotels, so no need to book into this one. An area I quite like a lot is the Barrio Gotico. It surely can be a bit noisier there as people flock to its restaurants at night - but really not too bad.

If you are artistic, visit Arthostal.com. It’s open for tourist too. Centric, antic, quiet and economic. Different. Greetings, and have a nice time in BCN!

You know, I found the Hotel Moderno, right off the street from Las Ramblas to be wonderful! If you search online, you should be able to get a good rate. Look at edreams.com or hotels.com
It is only a block away from everything, and about a 2 block flat walk from the Liceu metro stop, which has an elevator (if you have luggage issues) and also about 2 blocks from the market on Las Ramblas where you want to shop for all your picnic needs. They speak English also.
Have fun!

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Well, remember that set price...

by Hexepatty

Well, remember that set price meals include a bottle of wine each. Drink your bottle of wine! We thought they were trying to Upsell us, and kept turning down the wine bottles. How were we to know each person got their own bottle? Five dollar FULL MEALS w/ a Bottle of wine for each person. AMAZING! Thinking of all the wine bottles I turned back! : )

a great panorama

by globetrott

Go up in the mountains in order to get a first panorama-view of Barcelona "La Sagrada Familia" ( the holy family ) is seen in the middle of the picture and is certainly the most famous building built by A.Gaudi

A view on Plaza Catalunya from above

by irisbe

On our second day of our visit, we met up with Marie (Marikitt) and she adviced us when we were standing at the Plaza Catalunya to go up the El Conte Ingles building at the corner, go all the way up to the cafetaria and have a nice view on the square down below us.
She was right!
It was a marvelous view, pity the glass prevented us from taking the pics we would have loved to take, but Diamonddog managed to take this nice one!
