For pop music, I rate bands like Dover or Amaral above the average. La Oreja de Van Gogh have just made a comeback with a new vocalist and their same drippy style. They will no doubt be a great success. These have all female vocalists, so they can't be your guy either.
To my disbelief, geriatric singers like Sabina, Manolo García, Serrat are still doing well in the charts (but they are definitely not the "young" fella you are looking for). And so do red-collar rumba-pop bands like Estopa or Fito & los Fitipaldis. Not that I personally like to listen to that stuff, even in the worst of my nightmares, though.
Possibly, by Spanish style you are referring to flamenco fusion groups and artists like Pitingo, Chambao, El Arrebato, etc. They are quite popular now and foreigners usually like them.
I hope that was helpful.
