rental car

by xymmot

I want to rent a car in Barcelona after my cruise to catch part of the Tour du France. Can anyone suggest a good rental car agency in city or airport?. Can a car be dropped off in Venice from Barcelona for a fair price?

Re: rental car

by leics

There is always a surcharge for one-way hire, and an even heftier one for dropping off a car in an other country (and not all companies will allow this anyway).

I suggest that using train + car rental would make far more economic sense.

Barcelona > Venice is over 1200km, 12+ hours driving (and petrol is not cheap in Europe).

With time on hand, I will rent a car, see part of the Tour Du France in the mountains, return the car in Barcellona. Then should I fly from BCN.> to ATH? or go the slow way Bcn>Venice>ferry >Corfu>ferry to Athens.>hop ferry to other Greek islands? Any suggestions? I have been to South of France, Venice, etc. Where would a wanderer want to go? Ibiza is close by but have been there, and if in Seville, there is Morracco. What to do , what to do?

Travel Tips for Barcelona

Casa Amatller

by kazander

Next door to Gaudi's Casa Battlo is where you can buy Ruta del Modernisme Tickets. They cost 3 euro, are good for 30 days, and give you 25-30% off the price of admission for Palau Guell, Palau de la Musica, La Pedrera, Sagrada Familia, Fundacio Antoni Tapies, Casa Museu Gaudi(which is in Parc Guell) Museu de Zoologia, Museu Nacional d'Art Modern and Museu de la Musica
The entranceway is really interesting as well! There are some amazing stained glass doors, windows and light fixtures.

This house was not done by Gaudi.

Here we are at the Fortress...

Here we are at the Fortress upon Montjuic (Mountain of the Jews, fort apparently built on an ancient Jewish cemetary). This is my best friend Monica, displaying the lovely gardening done in the one-time moat. This site provides great views of Barcelona, since it is on quite a hill.

Excellent Bakeries

by dlandt

All through Barcelona, and indeed throughout Catalonia, you will find high quality bakeries. Very often they also serve sandwiches, but pictured here is Miyuki's favorite, the chocolate croissant. Some actually have both ends dipped in chocolate instead of being drizzled over the top, but all are filled with chocolate. According to Miyuki, chocolate of every variety tended to be of very high quality in Barcelona.

Sau Reservoir

by Elisabcn

If you like trekking this is a good proposal at 1,30 hours from Barcelona. Sau was a quiet little village surrounded by a wonderful landscape . The catalan authorities decided to build a reservoir in that zone so the people who lived there had to leave. Nowadays when the water level is low (like the day we took the pics) you still can see the tower of the Sau's romanic church. You can go down (650m) from a delicious village called Tavertet (its visit is a must!). The views of the reservoir from Tavertet are just wonderful and if the day is clear you can see the mountains of Montseny and Pedraforca too.

"Under the sea"

You'll be able to see the sharks, fish, eels and other species swimming right above your head... while walking by the crystal hall that goes through the big pool where they live...!! It's really spectacular.
