Barcelona night on the town

by PLV1187

Hello,

My fiance and I are celebrating the final two nights of our honeymoon in Barcelona. We're going to be there on a Saturday and Sunday evening. I've always heard about the over-the-top Barcelona nightlife and I want to get the full experience on the Saturday night. We're both in our mid-20s and enjoy fashionable restaurants and trendy dance clubs.

What would a typical night look like? Tapas and drinks, dinner, dancing etc.? We'd appreciate recommendations on what hot spots to visit.

Many thanks!
Patrick

Well I haven´t lived in Barcelona for a couple of years but I think many of the same places are still popular and fun. Try this website http://barcelona.tonight.eu it has lists for all of the different restaurants bars, and clubs in Barcelona. I might try some of the bars or a restaurant in the Borne District( near the Gothic Quarter), and you can also get tapas in a lot of these bars, then you could move on to a lounge club like Carpe Diem, or The Sutton Club (very trendy native Barcelona crowd)If you like a more party scene you could try Pacha for electronic music or Ottozutz for hip-hop and electronic. There are really countless places, depending on what type of music you like. The website is in Spanish but has links to all of the websites for different places.

Visit LAS RAMBLAS, the most visited place(also by locals) you can feel the people there, watch them do what they want to do, artist, sellers or both at the same time, offer the best of them. Visit the land of my roots, my family comes from CATALUNYA

You can also have excellent views of the whole city from the Montjuic park. I guess this statue must be pleased with the location they chose for it. It must be hard to stand always at the same point, but if you have to, choose at least a beautiful view.

my most favourie reason to be in Barcalona. its a traditional Catholic festivity, and its celebrated in the end of august. with fiesta major, when they celebrate it, its the best thing to to to Garcia. and then you get amazed: the whole local area is full of streets that have all their own theme: a street expressing mexico, with cactusses, and full of mecican items such as of course a tequila bar. other streets just happily decorated like with lots of colours, flags and lights. In many streets there are live bands, beautifull spanish music or rockmusic. All local bands , probabl;y coming from the area or living in that particular street. People dancing, passion and so much real life! i love it

Monestir de Montserrat

by martin_nl

The Montserrat mountain from which the top is 1236 metres high is home of the monastery of Montserrat. The first time there is spoeken about this monastery is in the 9th century. Montserrat was destroyed in 1811 when the French invaded Catalunya. In 1844 the monastery was rebuilt.Everyday you can hear the Escalonia Choir sing the 'Virolai' at 13:00 and the 'Salve Regina' at 19:10.

The monastery is surrounded with a lot of peace and quietness. You will hardly hear anything while being on this mountain. The main attractions of Montserrat are the 'Black Madonna' and the 'Basilica' it is in. In the summertime there are a lot of people that want to visit Montserrat, so there are very long queues in front of the Madonna. I visited in wintertime and we were amongst the few visitors. There is also a museum with a lot of 19th and 20th century Catalan paintings.

You should really take a whole day to visit Montserrat. To start with the train only goes once an hour from Plaça d'Espanya to Aeri de Montserrat. Then you have to take the cable car up to the mountain. So travelling already takes upp quite some time. If you really want to see everything on the mountain you just need a whole day. But it's worth it.
