Cubist accommodation

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on June 20, 2003

Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. That's the advantage. I paid 21 euros per night. For that you get a bed in little cubicle with enough room to stand in. You get a locker which is of a pretty decent size - have a 2 euro coin handy to put in the lock as a deposit. You get it back whenever you open the lock. You get a light. You get a blanket, a pillow, and a bed with a rubber sheet. There are seperate toilet and shower facilities (not mixed, not communal). You can sit in the foyer which is open until midnight; there are posters up advertising pub crawls etc. Internet access is available at a euro for half an hour. There are big lockers in the foyer area where you can leave luggage on your leaving day if you don't want to carry it around all day. They cost 2 non-refundable euros, and you'll have to pay every time you lock it so make sure you have everything you need before you do. There's a laundrette and there are patio areas between rooms where you can sit and talk or leave your washing out to dry. You can rent sheets and towels if you want.

It's clean enough - rooms and facilities are cleaned daily.

The big disadvantage with this place is noise - I was staying in a 16 person dorm, so with people coming and going at all hours of the day and night it was pretty hard to get some quality sleep in. Try to get in a smaller dorm if you can. Check-out is at 10am.

The area is ok - basically nobody is there at night. It actually felt a little more unsavoury during the day, but I never had any problems. The police seemed to maintain a regular presence along c/ Sant Pau

At night you'll have to show an identity card they provide you with to get back in, but you can come and go as you as please.

Directions: Walking down the Ramblas, turn right down Carrer de Sant Pau and keep walking! The hostel is just past El Rambla del Raval
