Another very 'Catalan' thing...
by JaumeBCN
Another very 'Catalan' thing is the 'Gegants' (Giants): Great figures representing most of the time kings & queens. They are also present in major Catalan town local parties. Barcelona's Giants are called Jaume (like me !) and Violant. Giants come out on local patron parties to dance and walking around the streets.
Beautiful vegetation
by draguza
Barcelona is one of the cities where palm trees have become a major part of the vegetation.
As well as the specimens of palms which stand in the city's parks and gardens, many of which are centenarian, palm trees represent over 3% of street-lining trees in Barcelona.
Ciutat Vella and especially Sant MartÃ, the two districts which share the coastline, are the districts where most palm trees can be found. The coastal area is, without a doubt, an ideal habitat for this species which is so exotic and at the same time, so frequent in Barcelona.
Insight into Gaudi's architecture
by bzh about La Pedrera tourist shop
La Pedrera has a tourist shop on the ground floor. It sells everything you could think of on Antoni Gaudi and his architecture. If you want to go further into Gaudi's architecture, buy the book called "La Sagrada Familia de Gaudi al CAD". It explains the principles of Gaudi's architecture and demonstrates how to reproduce parts of the Sagrada Familia using a CAD system. Definitely for the mathematically minded people who speak Spanish though: I didn't find any English version when I went.
