Parc the Collserola!!

by crazyguitar

This Parc covers a large area. I'm going to suggest you a half-day/day trip (depending on your stops):
Take the "Ferrocarrils Catalans" (train) from Barcelona to "Baixador de Vallvidrera" stop and get off.
Near the station there is a Information Center of the Park, find it and pick up some map.
You can choose one of the paths going to "El Tibidabo", from less than 1 hour to 2 hours depending on the path...
There are beautiful views from el Valles, Montserrat, Barcelona...
Paths are well signed and maintained!
And all is for free!!

I want to book a Ryanair flight to Barcelona, which offers the choice of either Girona or Reus airport.

From looking at a map, they both seem to be roughly the same distance away from Barcelona, but I wondered if anyone knew which location is quickest to transfer to Barcelona from, ie, perhaps bus availability, traffic conditions etc make one quicker than the other (I am planning to book the flight for July/August)?

Any other advantages/disadvantages/points of interest etc on both locations anyone can offer would be great to hear.

I was at Girona airport last month and took the bus into Barcelona. They run quite frequently and tend to coincide with arrivals. The bus costs about 12 Euros to the Barcelona bus station. Also landing at this airport gives you the option of taking a bus to directly to the town of Girona and visiting the town (as well as continuing by train to the Dali museum in Figueres) before you go to Barcelona. From Girona or Figueres it is an easy train ride to Barcelona. Of course, you can just as easily visit Girona and Figueres after visiting Barcelona and before boarding your flight back from Girona airport.

I know nothing about the other airport.

You can compare onward travel times/costs/frequencies by looking at the airport websites (in English):

Sorry about the long links.........

I used GRO airport a few times ( I do live in Barcelona) but never REU. From GRO the transfer can't be easier, there are buses matching every flight (and as said above, you maybe can profit to visit Girona itself that is well worth it).

However, I'd say the choice should depend as well of the arrival/departure times of the available flights (which one is better for you??)

Not knowing from where you'll depart... so many times the "great" offers of Ryanair are not as "great" when you add all their extras and the time and cost of the transfer from remote airports. But maybe you are departing just from one of these "remote" airports. If not.... have you checked other airlines that use Barcelona-El Prat (BCN)?

Having used both airports, there are buses waiting for every Ryanair flight, from both Girona and Reus to Barcelona. Direct travelling times are probably similar.

If I was going to Barcelona, I'd choose Girona, spending a few hours in the City itself before heading on down to Barcelona. Girona is a picturesque city, a photographers delight. Reus, the birthplace of Gaudi (the house is in private ownership and visiting is discouraged), has some nice squares and lanes, but isn't on the same level as Girona imo.

Just in case you don't know, Girona airport is about 10km from the town and is a 20-30 minute bus ride away. Buses leave from the same platforms as the ones to Barcelona. If I remember correctly, they are towards the right after exiting the terminal.

Travel Tips for Barcelona

What can I say, I confess myself guilty. I have a sweet teeth and cannot resist some temptations. I know some are terrible unhealthy and I could hear the little devil on my ear saying: "Fiona cuidado con la bolleria..." that means Fiona be carefull with the pastries.

I have quite healthy habits in my daily life but when I go to Spain I cannot help it but to indulge my self to some magdalenas, rosquitas, and churros.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - forward in Barca.

This guy is such a wonderful football player, and he is usually from former Yugoslavia. But he was born in Sweden, so he plays for the Swedish national team in football. He is one of the most important players in Barcelona. Also one of the leaders for this football club. And he is really good to make goals.

Parc Güell, designed by Gaudi, is a fascinating park. The park is laid out on a hill with fantastic views of the city. Huge ceramic benches, giant decorative lizards, ceramic mosaics and pavilions of contorted stone all combine into a brilliant swirl of the imagination.
It is situated at Carrer d'Olot 7 in the Gracia district. You can take bus no. 24.

Music: has traditionally been found at DISCOS Castello and more recently, at the Virgin Mega STORE.

Finally, you will find all this but also electronics and much more at the new COMMERCIAL AND CULTURAL CENTRE of la FNAC (l'Illa Diagonal)

Clothing and SHOES: Spanish casual and elegant clothing is amongst the best these days.
Just take a look at how well dressed the locals are!!

Hoes and especially boots come from the Baleatic Islands and Levant and are of good quality and really good value. Beautiful Things: you will find the "souvenir stuff" in the little shops at the RAMBLAS.

Also in these shops or at el Corte Ingles, the Barça's fans will find all kinds of things evoking the club.
There is an interesting selection of beautiful objects related to Barcelona at the Tourist Information under Pl. de Catalunya.

Of special interest are Catalan ceramics, traditional as well as trendy ones.
These and other craft works are found at the temporary stands that you will find either down the Ramblas, Portal de l'Angel, Pl. del Pi, at the Cathedral or the Port Olimpic.

Also check the small shops in the old town. whatever you have to pay, please.......
